    Just one thing worth mentioning. Heading towards the Biosphere is good if you are seated near the hairpin. For seating towards turns 1 and 2, along the front straight, or in the family grandstand, you would actually head in the opposite direction towards the city skyline. You will see a large open space used for summer concert festivals and if you cross it, it will take you towards Pont des Iles. There is a gate on that bridge which is much closer to those seating areas. It's still 15 to 20 minutes to get to turn 2, but it would be at least 10 minutes longer from the hairpin area.

    A while ago, I came up with my dream F1 calendar, of 21 races. Heres what it looks like: 1. Australia, Albert Park. (Where I live, I think its nice to see it wake up the new F1 season) 2. Malaysia, Sepang. (F1 MUST return here) 3. Singapore, Marina Bay. (Because its close to Malaysia) 4. India, Buddh INTL circuit (I would love to see one) 5. South Africa, Kyalami (You are right, it wouldn't be an F1 world championship without including Africa in it) 6. Portugal, Portimao 7. Monaco, Monte Carlo (My favourite track) 8. France, Magny-Cours 9. Azerbaijan, Baku 10. Turkey, Istanbul Park (Baku-Istanbul and then back to the rest of Europe) 11. Great Britain, Silverstone (You just can't leave out F1's home) 12. Austria, Red Bull Ring 13. Belgium, Spa Franchorchamps (I love seeing the cars blast through Eau Rouge) 3 week break. Round 14: Germany, Nurburgring (Not the Nordschleife, because its too dangerous) Round 15: Italy, Monza Round 16: Emilia Romagna, Imola Round 17: Canada, Circuit-Gilles Villeneuve Round 18: USA, Las Vegas (I'll give it a chance) Round 19: Japan, Suzuka Round 20: Bahrain, Sakhir INTL Circuit Round 21: Brazil, Interlagos (You are correct, it is brilliant to end a season, especially with a title fight) What do you think?

  • @philmasters5277
    @philmasters5277 Před 9 měsíci

    Glad you picked Kyalami. I have said for a long time that it doesn't feel like a true WORLD championship as not every continent is covered. I also like the re-inclusion of India. I think Liberty Media definitely need to take a proper look at these two. 3 GPs in the US is too many. Perhaps have them on rotation? I would, perhaps, swap Bahrain for Abu Dhabi. Never beena fan of Sakhir but like the Yas Marina circuit. Difficult to leave out France and the Nurburgring too. Again, the latter could be on rotation with Hockenheim. Maybe a 21-race season to include either Magny Cours or Paul Ricard? 😉

    Montreal is a terrible place to watch F1. We paid $800 for two tickets and literally couldn't see the track. Not the cars. The track! But, I hear I'm not the only one. it's like this each year with many seats. It's a thing there. What a rip -off. I'm not sure how they get away with it. 3rd rate like most things in Canada are these days. The Indy turns out to be a much better organized race event in terms of seating . At least you can see the track when you pay for your ticket. this is hardly a small thing. It's why you're there.

    Great content, thank you so much. Quick questions: 1. Do you recommend doing all 3 days from the same spot or different? 2. On race day, is it better to be on the main straight since all the action is happening there?

    • @CCF1channel
      @CCF1channel Před rokem

      Thanks for the kind words! 1. I suggest to use the Friday as your day to scout out locations, that way you can see where other people standing at and to get an idea for what angles/spots you like the most. Then come Saturday and Sunday you'd want to get to your favourite spot early. If you do leave though it will be hard to get that place back unless you have a buddy there to hold your place. 2. I personally prefer being in a spot where you can see the cars for the longest amount of time, so my view point of the hairpin was enjoyable. Most of the action/overtakes in Montreal take place in the first two corners I feel. So if you can get close to those, that'd be my recommendation as they have a few spots around there fore people to stand I've heard. The main straight doesn't have the best view point as you'll be close to the track which is great but you might not catch the overtakes when they speed past you at 300+kph

I was lucky enough to experience it at Monza in 2022 where we had a paddock pass for a short period of time. It's a very surreal experience if you've never done it before, you get to see all the teams going between the garages and the hospitality units, you might even get the chance to see a driver or a team principal up close. I feel it very much brings a new perspective to the weekends to see all the action taking place before/after each session. Have a fantastic time 😊

    One rivalry way back in the day was Mike Hawthorn and Peter Collins vs Luigi Musso in 1958- probably the bloodiest and deadliest F1 rivalry ever. They were all driving for Ferrari, and Enzo liked to stir up intra-team rivalries, because that meant the drivers would drive faster, even on totally bonkers circuits that had no safety on them. At the end of the season, Musso was killed at the French GP, Collins was killed at the German GP a month later and Hawthorn won the championship at the Moroccan GP 2 1/2 months later, and he was then killed in a road accident 3 months later in England. Over 6 months, all 3 of Ferrari’s drivers were dead. Not retired, not injured- dead. Another intense rivalry was between the Australian Alan Jones and the Argentine Carlos Reutemann in 1981, both teammates at Williams (when Williams was competitive) After Reutemann made an intentional mistake at Long Beach by going off the track right in front of Jones to see how he would react, Jones zipped by him and won the race. At the next race at Rio in Brazil in soaking wet conditions, the Williams cars were running 1-2 and Reutemann disobeyed team orders to let Jones through, not adhering to his (Reutemann’s) No. 2 driver contract- and won the race from Jones. From that point on they didn’t say a single word to each other for the rest of the season. Reutemann at one point asked to bury the hatchet with Jones. Jones responded “yeah, I’ll bury the hatchet- in your bloody back”, and then at the last race in Las Vegas Reutemann and Nelson Piquet were still in contention for the championship, and Jones did Reutemann no favors by barging past the pole-sitting Argentine, and the Australian kept the lead and won the race, and Piquet then got past Reutemann to win the championship- by a single point. Another in the early 1970s was between Emerson Fittipaldi and Jackie Stewart, but that was much more friendly than those other two rivalries, and then a few years after that of course Niki Lauda and James Hunt in 1976. Another intense but friendly rivalry was before WWII- even before Formula One was formed was between Germans Rudolf Carraciola and Bernd Rosemeyer- that was the first widely publicized rivalry in the pinnacle of international racing. Carraciola, who drove for Mercedes and Rosemeyer, who drove for Auto Union dominated the 1937 GP season driving super-high tech and powerful cars for the time (that were funded by the Third Reich, unfortunately) that were scary, powerful and dangerous. The Mercedes Carraciola drove was front engined and had 640 hp, while the Auto Union Rosemeyer was driving was actually mid-engined (radical for the time) and had a supercharged V16 engine that produced a little less power than the Merc. Both cars were run on tires that were only about twice the width of bicycle tires, and when set up properly and with special streamlined bodywork, those cars could hit 240 mph (396 km/h) on the 12-mile AVUS Autobahn circuit, which was just 2 6-mile straights which ran parallel (because it was a highway for normal traffic), with a hairpin at one end and a daunting 43 degree banked corner made of bricks called Die Mauer des Todes (The Wall of Death) on the other end. The name for that banked corner was accurate- it had no retaining wall and if you missed the braking point for it, you could actually fly off the banking and very likely be killed. Those cars had no seatbelts and the circuits they raced on had absolutely no safety. A car that could do 240 mph in 1937 is completely insane and at the time almost impossible to believe. But Carraciola was champion that year, whilst Rosemeyer had been champion the year before. They were even rivals on speed-run record attempts. In February 1938, both drivers were participating on an official record attempt outside Frankfurt and would do as many runs as possible, even in pouring rain to try to outdo each other. During a dry run, Caracciola did 267 mph (431 km/h) in his Merc, which had a special supercharged V12 for extra horsepower. Rosemeyer, who was the Gilles Villeneuve of his time thought he could do better in his Auto Union, and he did- he did 276 mph (448 km/h) on the next run. Then, Caracciola went out and was not as fast, but Rosemeyer decided to out for one final run, but he never came back. He had an enormous accident at 250+ mph (400 km/h) when a gust of wind blew his Auto Union into the air, and it effectively took off some 70 feet into the air, and considering how dangerous those cars were and that they didn’t have any seatbelts, Rosemeyer had no chance. Another was between Italians Tazio Nuvolari and Achille Varzi in the early 1930s, which was probably the first known bitter racing rivalry. Varzi left the Alfa Romeo team to drive for Bugatti for 1930 because he couldn’t stand being in the same space as Nuvolari. Nuvolari was a man who, quite simply, had no fear. During the 1930 Mille Miglia- a 1,000 mile, one lap rally-style race on public, non-closed roads in Italy Nuvolari was closing in on Varzi, and before Varzi had any time to notice Nuvolari was behind him, Nuvolari actually switched off his lights in almost total darkness and tailed Varzi for dozens of miles, using Varzi and his lights for reference. And in the next town, about 10 miles before the finish, Nuvolari then switched on his lights and dashed past Varzi, to Varzi’s complete shock! But even after all those rivalries, the Senna-Prost rivalry is the best rivalry F1 has ever seen- ever. There will never be a rivalry like that in racing again… probably.

    Really enjoyed around 14:00 - 15:00. So true - the amount of work that goes into getting that money shot is under appreciated. I guess with everyone having a camera in their pocket these days, it's bound to happen that people think they can take amazing shots.

      Wishing you a great race weekend ahead for 2023! I've never done general admission myself, but I hear you have to get there relatively early to get a good spot, I'd use the Friday to scout out different locations along the track to see what you like, and then head there early on the Saturday and Sunday to secure your spots! They'll have it on the map of where people in GA are recommended to stand. Enjoy 😊

    Really great video and thank you for the interview. My wife and I started shooting races last year hitting up Sebring, Daytona Rolex, Limerock, and Watkins Glen. This video was very helpful and gave us alot to think about. The issue we are running into is the accreditation and access (I actually had to look it up after Jamey mentioned it). was SO jealous of seeing him behind the barriers at Watkins Glen. Access provides you so many better opportunities. And I definitely get his comments on carrying gear for 20 hours over two days of racing.. its back breaking. But when you love what you do and love what you create...

    Watching this now, pretty milquetoast response. Only RB cars improved after the restart, the championship was stolen
