Here's a quick video primer on Meteor Scatter communications on VHF/UHF. Finally got myself on this mode after all these years. Having fun but a lot to learn about many things. Getting the hardware and software can be a challenge but don't give up.

This was extremely thought provoking and helpful. I am 72 and just put up my first HF tower. My VHF/UHF/SHF is anchored to the house so I don't worry much about that. Can you tell me the total weight of your array (which is impressive.) I was wondering what version of the hazer you have. My HF beam weighs 80lbs and the 6m beam weighs 12 pounds. I have the GM version 4 (the one with the wheels.) Thanks for the super video.
Interesting that there wasn’t too much difference between the 25w station and the 1kw station. I realize the 1kw will be able to reach further but I’m encouraged that I can play with this with lower power.
Conditions can simply amaze you at times. The unpredictability of this propagation is what makes you get excited!
Great video! only 32 elements! hope you are still having fun on the bands, 73
This is great! Thanks for sharing! I can’t wait to get my rig up
Impressive
I wonder if you're still around. 🤔
Would you be able to contact the ISS?
Nice😊
I knew you in Kansas back in 1998, remember the wooden headphones? It would be so cool to talk to you, I’m Mike Russell
Nice 😮
You need a few drone videos brother. hahahaha or a new channel to post your drone flights, i would love to see you flying your tanqs, and i would love to see your new deadcat tanq when it comes in.
No time for hardly anything. The business grew too big. Wish I had more time but some hobbies have fell to the wayside.
@@JDDupuy i understand brother.
Came across a QSL card from Dave - WB8AUK - EN80or dated on 5/11/2011. Went to the web site on the card, which is no longer in service. Did a search and came across this video. Nice video! 73’s Tim - KD5ITM - EM20hb
Nice. You have a few bucks invested in all that!!!
Or maybe this one: Baofeng BF-888S (UHF)?
Wow very cool!
Does a Baofeng Uv5r Uhf Vhf works for this?
Where in the hell, and just how the hell do you get a gun turret off of a cruiser and on that. That must have taken some serious logistics to pull off.
Government surplus sale. Big truck and big crane! Pete liked a challenge back then. Thanks for watching.
Cool ! )))
Cool 73 de KT1R
The signal bouncing back is so strong just WOW
Can that be used on an fm repeater with a tone? If so, how?
Nice to find this. I just bought an Icom IC-1275, but I don't have it on the air yet. Have to build an antenna or two. I've been off the air for over ten years, and I'm anxious to get back on. Well that was a great night, rare and one of over 35 made for my VUCC Award. I have been off the air for past 6 years. Equipment still here, life got in the way. You have some rare and highly praised radios. I wish you well and many hours of enjoyment!
A friend of mine and I were country cruising a year or so back and ran pass this place and made guesses on what it was for. Glad to get some answers.
Just curious, if you use the serial connection on the sdr-iq to link to the k3, then how do you use logbook software???, cheers for the video, James
I have a question about guying. I believe you mentioned having a mid-level guy set as well as on the Hazer? I have a 50' 25G tower with a flat top and a Glenn Martin Hazer4 and was planning on guying at the top only, removing 2 guys to lower and then replace them after the Mosley TA33A gets past the top. I cannot figure out how to Mid guy without getting tangled in the Hazer when raising and lowering. Any advice or photo would be appreciated. 73's K5OOL
Very useful video to connect this type of transverter to the Kenwood TS890. Many thanks!
Nice! Thank you very much. Very helpful.
Hard to believe that it's been 7 years since I made this video. Thanks!
**Drives by Pete's house** Hmm, I wonder if this guy is a HAM...
LOL! Good one.
Nice video. Thank you for creating it and explaining it so succinctly. I host a CZcams channel that’s Mission is to help people get into ham radio. I like to show different methods of communications to encourage people who may have an interest in those types of communications. I’d like to use this video on a future show. I’ll be sure of course to credit your channel and put a link to your channel as well as to this video in the description portion of the podcast. Please let me know if it’s OK to show it on my show. I believe showing as many facets of ham radio as possible is important. This may be the key to somebody who is thinking about ham radio but isn’t sure if they want to get their license…Doing meteor scatter is such a unique part of ham radio radio that I’d like to cover it. Thank you so much, and the very best to you and yours, Larry de K7HN

TNX for nice video 73!
whats to prevent the elements from twisting on the boom ? It looks like a potential issue down the road...
You're right. The single hole mount was pure stupidty!
Contact ,,,,but from where to where, mounbounce????how many miles ???
Kansas City to Canton Illinois = 254 miles straight line. And no it would not be moonbounce not on voice. 1296.100 is a Sideband Frequency. The doppler shift on 1296 EME is huge and requires us to run digital. The video shows the DB lose between running vertical versus horizontal. Larry has the ability to rotate his yagi from those two politicizations. This was over 11 years ago.
@@JDDupuy wow 254 miles is a very long distance even for vhf...in the past i have build a cross yagi antenna for satellite,i did the setup for circular polarization,1 cross yagi antenna transmitting at the same time with individual gamma match inch one and another cross yagi in the other side of the boom,1 yagi rotating to the right and the other yagi rotating to the the left,...///not many ham knows what i am talking about, I still have the yagis in my shed and i still have many pictures of the setup... If you put 2 yagis together one horizontal and the other vertical and you used the right calculation in the coaxial that goes to the gamma match ,you can make that one signal go faster in one yagi than the other and that will make the signal to rotate, and that is know as circular polarization ,,,depending to your calculation in the coaxial one should be short that the other and that will make the antenna signal to rotate to the right or to the left ,i never have to rotate my antennas ,circular polarization is like if you have 2yagis one vertical and the other horizontal at the same time...is the best setup....my English is not the best .i apologize for that....73
I was Rex's next door neighbor when I was 4-5 years old and I sure remember his radio shack!
How cool it must of been to know him. Glad you let me know.
@@JDDupuy He was a kind man and let a 5 year old kid in his radio shack. He invited my family over for our first glimpse of color television... I remember that it was The Wonderful World of Walt Disney we watched.
@@exmailman1 He sold appliances as I recall. I remember that show each Sunday. Great memories! Thanks for sharing your story....appreciate you!
"If you engineer it properly, you won't have any problems" Even lowered down to the rooftop it's still a death trap !
10 years and re-cabled a 2nd time. Still working fine. That shed is gone and a new 1200 square foot woodshop right next to it.
Wow.....
I just got the kx3, px3, and kxpa100 , Never thought I would get into the wood shop for something like that. Very nice video, Thanks.
So, if I get my license, can I talk to 2011 when this video was made?
Huh no.
thanks for your vid N0IRS was fantastick hand no idear that the kenwood 990 did that but its good to keep up with TECO side of thing i have 990 it rocks cheers and all the very best from DOWN UNDER 73 VK4SD DANNY
Do they still make these?
No they do not. His dream did not last long. And they really never caught on. Check out Meter Builder MB 1. Nicer meter and I bought 2.
Nice
Well anyone who knows anything about the Kenwood TS-2000 knows they are Stone Deaf even with a preamp and they don’t have a very good filtering system either so you were working with a handicap on receive. The 500 plus watts you were running did not help your receiver.I hated the TS-2000 so much and could not believe what a POS Radio that is was and I’m so happy I replaced it with an ICOM 910H & ICOM 821H & either is a far better choice for VHF/UHF operation.
You're 100 percent correct. Did not stay as my primary gear 10 plus years ago. Moved on to German transverters. Gave up the hobby 2 years ago. Enjoying other hobbies these days.
Is there a reason one wouldn't want the NB setting on the PX3 to be linked to the NB setting on the KX3? I find it odd that you have to turn it on and set the level on each separately.
You are truly blessed wow what a setup awesome
Too bad you are a thief.
You have been officially added to the lawsuit. Another idiot who got scammed by someone who made up some BS. It amazes me the dumb ass hams who read a statement from a guy with no facts what so ever and believe it. Thank you for posting here on CZcams as it is just more evidence by which to haul folks into court.
8 years later, i would like to see an updated version of this vid around LP-PAN & SDR-IQ
