  • Here's a quick overview of Elecraft's new PX3 High Performance Panadapter for the KX3. The Noise Blanker also comes up in the screen on a white background when pressed now. I omitted this from the video. Heck they come out with Betas and updates faster than a guy can do videos.

    This was very helpful. I got a PX3 and stand with a rig set I bought 2 years ago. I don’t use the Elecraft gear often. Recently, after an accident, I had my radio gear moved upstairs into my den and I found that I had forgotten almost everything I knew about the KX3, PX3. Your video brought me up to speed. Thank you very much. MikeinMinnesota N0WDM

    Very well thought out VIDEO, really shows the features of the PX3 and simultaneously kinda/sorta justifies the price.

    Is there a reason one wouldn't want the NB setting on the PX3 to be linked to the NB setting on the KX3? I find it odd that you have to turn it on and set the level on each separately.

    JD, I am just getting into Ham Radio. Purchased a Baofeng UV-5R to make my first contacts on two meter. I'm studying up with several apps for my Tech License and I am studying the art of CW like I have to (even though I don't have to yet, trying to learn like a traditional student would). I live in Grain Valley, just east of the metro and did not know where to start locally to be in a club or find a mentor. Any suggestions?

    • @JDDupuy
      @JDDupuy  Před 9 lety

      I think your best bet is to find a mentor. One that has been in the hobby 10 or more years without a break and has tried many different parts of the hobby. And of course one that has some time and is willing to take you from a - Z. Hands on is the best way to learn. Anyone can remember facts etc. but practical hands on will really sink in. Clubs are okay and you tend to get a wide diversity of people in these organizations. However, the same Elmer (mentor) will always be the best approach. CW is great to learn, I worked at it for almost a year and finally passed back when it was still required in 2005. I do still use the mode on many bands. If you were here with me now I would have to ask you want and where you want to go in the hobby? It's always a question I ask to find out about expectations. It's has less to do with what you know about the hobby now, but more about what you want to learn along the way. There's is so much to do in this hobby and having somewhere break it down in steps is very important so you learn and don't get overwhelmed. Let me know if I can help you! JD - N0IRS

    I find that display to be too little. Elecraft would have served their customers better by making a software version of a panadapter where people can bring their own screen, i.e. a laptop, tablet or huge monitor.

    Is anyone else only hearing his voiceover in the left channel? The intro music is both channels, but his voice is only on the left for me.

      4 years old now. The longer a video stays up on CZcams and gets ported over, sometime that tend to loose audio channels.

    • @gsansoucie
      @gsansoucie Před 5 lety

      It’s pausing on transmit, that’s all. My 7300 does the same thing. I was going to get a KX3, PX3, and a KXPA 100 since I like my KX2 so much (plus my K1 and K2 that I no longer have) but opted for the 7300 as it’s all in one. Now I will just wait for a KX4 and PX4 with touch screen ;-)

    Great video. I'm own a K-Line and a KX3. I've been thinking about the PX3 but the cost seems to be too high when compared to something like a netbook. Do you think there is enough value with the PX3 to warrant the cost vs a netbook? I use my P3 all the time but with the KX3 and when being used for portable work, it seems a netbook makes more sense. I appreciated any comments and thanks in advance for them. W1TXT at arrl dot net if you want to reply directly.
