- Here's a quick video primer on Meteor Scatter communications on VHF/UHF. Finally got myself on this mode after all these years. Having fun but a lot to learn about many things. Getting the hardware and software can be a challenge but don't give up.
A note for people running Linux. Make sure you've installed NTP daemon or checked use network time in your time settings. Most modern distributions will have ntp installed by default already, check your clock against WWV and it should be dead on.
Nice video. Thank you for creating it and explaining it so succinctly.
I host a CZcams channel that’s Mission is to help people get into ham radio. I like to show different methods of communications to encourage people who may have an interest in those types of communications.
I’d like to use this video on a future show. I’ll be sure of course to credit your channel and put a link to your channel as well as to this video in the description portion of the podcast.
Please let me know if it’s OK to show it on my show. I believe showing as many facets of ham radio as possible is important. This may be the key to somebody who is thinking about ham radio but isn’t sure if they want to get their license…Doing meteor scatter is such a unique part of ham radio radio that I’d like to cover it.
Thank you so much, and the very best to you and yours,

Great video. Enjoyed watching it.
Very helpful! Thanks for posting this.
Thank you very much . This is exactly what I was looking for. 55+73 from Germany de Frank DL9DAC
Thanks for this important information... just a question.. the radio must have SSB mode or this MS Procedure could be in FM Mode ????
Regards from Costa Rica
SSB only
Does a Baofeng Uv5r Uhf Vhf works for this?
but how do you know he got the 73 ?
Or maybe this one: Baofeng BF-888S (UHF)?
Wow very cool!
how are the meteours detechted?
You don't detect them, that's why the TX cycle is so long. There is a constant stream of micrometeorites hitting the Earth at all times. The MSK144 mode is fast enough that it only takes a couple meteorites to get the message through. You just hope.
