I had geese land while I was turned around flagging geese that were a 1/4 mile away. They came right in and I was standing up they landed 20 feet from me they never made a sound.

As a general public hunter you want nothing to do with our blind culture because they smell like legal weed now from others! Yuck!

Quick answer. Are 3 inch shotgun shells 3 inches before the shot or after the shot? Basically what is the lengths of the shells before the crimp and after the chimp to finish the load?

Duck Bingo - Sounds like he needs to go and do a bingo hunt, if he can only hunt a handful of times per year, and his state has it, I think that's the best option for walk in hunts.

I had a former hunting partner get a band and wasn’t going to turn it in unless I did it. Of course I reported for him and several months later he basically said he was more passionate about waterfowl hunting. Talk about a cord strike.

Another cord striker is when you meet a duck hunter for the first time and they agree to hunt with you sometime. When that time comes they never return your calls and when you see them again they say oh yeah forgot to call you back, you should of been there because they claimed getting into some awesome limit hunting while showing you pics on their smartphone while the hunting was no good for me.

People strike cords talking about how they get grossed out seeing ducks on wastewater ponds. The passenger pigeon is the reason for federal laws created today. States tried but couldn’t enforce which was a very hard lesson learned and now needed migratory birds to fall under federal protection.

The 2024 field reports from the breeding survey really struck a disappointment cord with me. The surveyors really made it sound like a disaster of a drought still going on up there.

Duck hunting for the general public only persistently gets worse, and don’t get persistently more frustrated like us 30 year vets who have had enough of it.

Field hunts are for geese while water hunts is for ducks. Too bad it’s getting to the point I will have no more opportunities to hunt waterfowl for the rest of my life only in my mid 40’s due to poor duck populations and lack of areas to begin with that keep disappearing to development.

I hunted waterfowl since 86 and everyone I hunted with have stopped so I don’t hunt ducks anymore. Was hoping to have 60 years of duck hunting but looking like im going to be 30 years short because no one to hunt with for several years now. Why is it impossible to find others to hunt with these days?

What flags will the SS Timber Queen fly?

Not gunna lie, every time I see these videos I go to marketplace and look for houseboats. But the ms river down here where I am is a bit of a different animal than it is up there where you guys are. But I found a very similar boat to this one, but it was glassed over.

How exactly do you expect to be able to hunt waterfowl with such a big boat? How would you retrieve the ducks? I ask cuz I've never seen people Hunt out of a house boat and do you guys plan to make a blind for it or just hunt it wide open 🤔

I dont agree that neoprene keeps you warmer and i would say waders is 100% where you should spend a significant amount of money, good waders keep you so much more comfortable

Make sure you even have a place to hunt that can be productive before you spend a dime. I hunted ducks and geese for almost 30 years hoping for about 60 years but cut way short because my spots dried up, developed, and over hunted. Also duck numbers are in severe decline atm so taking a break trying to find new but 3 seasons into this with no current hope to even think about buying a license and stamps. Good luck!

Boat blinds require going the extra mile brushing. Whether that be with a beavertail spending 30 min before the hunt adding brush or setting up a hard side. But if done right they are as or in some cases more effective. Also, Jordan isn't wrong when saying just setting up the average boat blind without the extra effort turns the boat into a magnifying glass lol.

A good gumbo is hard to beat. But it’s kind of like a woman… ya can’t at just anybodies. From what I have been told by an old timer is that word gumbo comes from Africa and it means “okra”. So technically it’s not gumbo without okra. Now I’m not from Louisiana, just been working in Louisiana since 2007.

Great discussion, guys. I really believe that people who make the decisions are not hunters themselves.

I live in eastern Washington state and I hunted mallards since 1986 and now can’t hardly find one. Even in urban areas with no hunting that would help me indicate they were in the area for my hunting spots. Breeding survey tells us what the hatch is going to be like with the young ducks that wander to the general public areas for the average joe. Almost 13 million mallard about 10 years ago to under 7 million now. Also Canada has no inventory on their wetlands so they can produce no statistics on how much wetlands they are losing every year per DU. We as waterfowl hunters have been fooled.
