Shanxi bench form 1991
This odd form is from a 1991 Chinese videotape labelled National Survey of Chinese Martial Art, Traditional, Shanxi Province. The practice looks dangerous to me. These old traditional styles can be very weird.

Lau Cham, father of Lau Kar-leung, is impersonating a elderly female matchmaker. I cut out three dialogue scenes to keep the focus on the action.

I had the good fortune to study under Master Mark in the early 90s. There is nothing more that I can add to describe the incredible martial artist that is Master Mark but I was lucky enough to spend time with she and her family at dinner when we came up to train with her. Bow Sim Mark is a lovely lady who treated us all with equal kindness. I treasure those memories. And I agree with the poster from 15 years earlier... It is so good to see that floor again!

She eventually removed all the leaning in Tai Chi, similar to the more modern orthodox Yang, almost certainly because of Li Tianji's influence, but here she's show the real Fu and Wu roots, and the Chen foundation. We typically hide most of the waist now, even in the Fu style Bagua "ripple step" she demonstrates. This reminds me of the Combined Internal she was teaching when I started with her in 1990, with the Mantis and Baxi replaced by Fu style 5 elements Hsing Yi, and the first Bagua section replaced with Dragon Palm techniques suitable for all levels. The last major movement of the form is the empty hand version of "Dragon Coils the Pillar" done in linear fashion for the audience, as opposed to in a tight circle which is considered more "high-level". She choreographed this and many combined internal forms, drawing on her encyclopedic knowledge of both the Modern Standardized Wushu and Traditional Family Guoshu. Her crowning achievement in this regard may well be the Tai Chi Dragon Fan, which is actually a Bagua form, and distinct from all prior fan forms in that is it both highly practical and astonishingly beautiful.

She is Donnie Yen's mother. She was a professional soprano and Donnie's father a concert pianist in Guangzhou and started learning Northern Chinese Kung Fu when she went into depression after her husband had to moved to Hong Kong. Fortunately the family was reunited and moved to Boston together.

His dad actually settled on Erhu, and became a fine calligraphist. She initially worked as a professional sword dancer at the famous Mirimar Hotel in Hong Kong. After years for urging her to take a hobby, she took up yangqin, however, I think she still preferred using her Pipa for kung fu, like in Jin Yong. Interestingly, the Shaolin Master Killer, 5th generation direct disciple of Wong Fei Hung and one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, favored guitar: czcams.com/video/WI_NXIyJbGQ/video.html

If you walk around with that footwork, you will either be kicked by a Muay Thai boxer or taken down by a BJJ. You simply CANNOT walk around with that footwork. CHANGE your footwork and move actively and constantly. This is modern day martial art. People are much ore athletic and mobile.

But after Mohammed Ali, people started to understand the importance of footwork. You can't just walk around without actively faking and actively moving into some good positions against any modern day martial arts. Watch how quick and abrupt wrestlers move. There is no way you can walk around like that without being punished.
