Adventures! Wild animal cameras, restoring FJ40 Land Cruisers and BSA motorcycles, extensive backpacking experience, ongoing ranch projects, the Rancho Coyote Channel is never boring!
Our ranch was named for the large population of coyotes here. See them yourself on our several critter cams around the property.
I've been an avid backpacker my whole life and have backpacked at least once every month since February 2016. Follow the streak in the Backpacking Streak playlist!
I'm retired from a lifetime career in aviation. I love working on old cars and motorcycles and keeping up on things around our small ranch in the foothills of San Diego County.

Thanks for sharing....great video....🤙
This is definitely gonna be a helpful video if I have to work on my carb. Ever since the first FJ40 video of yours I watched I've been going outside looking at my 2F engine to see where I need to get started 🤣....👍🤙
Thanks! Very grateful for that! The D40 was on the older F engines. If you have a 2F, this may be helpful. Thanks so much! czcams.com/video/CCX2diEXn8k/video.html
Another great video, Sir. Thank you.
Thank you! Much appreciated. I hope it's helpful to someone down the line. 🙂
How cool 😎 was that....awesome...
That looked like an amazing trip. How many miles over all ? .....🤙
@TheNorvikWay About 53 miles total. It was definitely amazing. We highly recommend visiting the area. Thanks for watching!
That was awesome.... I've never seen one in the wild. I have seen a wild boar and her piglets in the wild....🤙
My first one! I was starting to think it would never happen.
Realy enjoying this series of videos....great views for sure ...🤙
Glad you like them! There's a lot more Sierra I need to see and film!
I would love to put a fly line in that water..🤙
My brother is the fly fisherman. I'm a spinning reel lure guy. Got some action the only day I was able to wet a line! I'm going back!
Looking good. Great job on that spacer plate for the carb.....👍🤙
Thanks! That was a fun project.
Great research! Well done.
Thank you!
Nice sunset
I’m so glad I found your channel!! My husband and I are new to backpacking, and we live near Mt Laguna. We also plan to do Golden Trout Wilderness, which I see you did recently.
Great to hear! Thanks for joining the channel. We also live just a short drive from Mt Laguna. You will LOVE Golden Trout. I backpack often in Laguna and Cuyamaca. Perhaps we'll cross paths someday.
What a great trip. I’d love to spend that much time up there. 👌🏼👌🏼
Highly recommend it! We're going back to spend more time around Big Whitney Meadow.
There are lots of bears in the GTW - also the only place I've seen them while truly in the backcountry (not just at/around trailheads). That's a good size one too! Fortunately, the GTW bears aren't too habituated to humans due to the light traffic that area of the backcountry gets. Congrats on the sighting!
Thanks! I've always hoped that if/when I got to see one that it would be exactly like it happened. In the wild where it was minding its own business, oblivious to my presence. It was perfect!
Inspired by you I went up there to Horseshoe Meadows and day hiked this week. Amazing place.
That's awesome! I'm so happy to hear that! Thanks for sharing.
@@RanchoCoyote I shall return!
Lmao. Someone on ring posted “is that a Russian missile?” 😂 they watch too much news. Edit: thank you for the footage! I saw it outside and it was soo beautiful.
Thanks for the comment! We love watching the launches. Agree with you...they have a unique beauty!
saw this walking around downtown Disney and thought it was a plane at first, super cool
We never get tired of watching these. Thanks for the comment!
Enjoying these thanks
Thanks! Really appreciate the comment.
Beautiful coat on that bear
Great stuff.
I just might’ve been hoping that you fell in!
Haha! Funny guy!
Great series...beautiful scenery....🤙
Doing a similar project on my new channel @josesgaraje know a far amount about Toyota 40 series, run one everyday all year. On this ones crankshaft end the front main engine seal is in the timing gear housing and seals the surface just behind the crankshaft nut threads and before the oil slinger. That surface doesn't appear to me to be usable for the seal unless you put in lots of resources. If you need info, tips or other throw me a line. Have subscribed and liked.
Thanks for the tips and the sub! I'll check out your channel and return the sub. I will likely be reaching out for more tips and info!
Hey I loved the video. What did the seats come out of? Also what brand rag top do you have
The seats are generic from a local speed shop. Not OEM from any particular vehicle. Top is from Bestop.
Thanks I will be needing a top for my 71 I been thinking about a bestop
Do you have any preferred areas to backpack to in the hotter months?
I have 2 backpacking brothers who live in Northern California. I get together with one or both of them between June and October 1-3 times a year in the Sierra.
@@RanchoCoyote Sierras are always good in the summer.
@@wolfeadventures you must have plenty of options over there in the warm months??
@@RanchoCoyote plenty up here. I was thinking of SD County when I’m down. Not a lot of time to drive too far.
@@wolfeadventures Down here I have to monitor the forecasts and look for cooler periods. I also do shorter trips, like starting later in the day and finishing before the heat hits the next day.
I have a 1974 fj40 that I am rebuilding/ restoring...It came out of Kansas barn and had been sitting since 1990 with the motor diissambled ..It is a work in progress. I am enjoying your videos....
Thanks! Sounds like a great project! Are you posting your progress on any of the FJ40 sites? I'd love to see it.
Great camp spot. Looked like perfect weather. I was there a few weeks ago and we go drenched on day 2 with cold wind and rain.
Yup, perfect weather! Fun hike. I haven't seen a video yet of your trip. Are you working on one?
Japanese straigh 6. Looks very Chev inspired!
Good eye! Lots of discussion about that in the community, but I personally don't know what the true story is.
Great video!! I thoroughly enjoy your channel's content; thank you for sharing these videos!
Thanks! Really appreciate it. 😃
How many years since it last ran?
Don't know exactly, but it was last registered in 2006. There's no evidence that it was started or driven since then.
Thanks for the video will keep washing the videos thanks
Thanks for the comment! Glad to hear! Thanks for watching.

@@RanchoCoyote sounds good 👍
Really nice video! It makes me want to buy it! How’s the sagging, given the type of material?
Thanks! You can expect some sagging since it's not Dyneema, but I've never had it be a significant problem. Just last week was the worst I've had with respect to sagging and condensation. I camped in a boggy area. It's a little annoying but functionally is not a deal breaker for me. My Zpacks Duplex gets some annoying condensation also. Comes with most single wall tents. Does this answer your question? If not, let me know. Thanks again!
Great video!! Thank you so much for sharing. I really enjoy your channel's content!
Thanks Pat! Really appreciate the support and your comments!
Great video. I have 1975 FJ40 with a 2F motor . Been sitting now for many years. Basically put it on the back burner. Got married and we had 3 kids. Finally now I think it's time to start working on it again. I had bought a lot of new parts 20+ years ago. I'm sure they are buried somewhere in the back of the garage. ....👍🤙
@@TheNorvikWay great story! I had to wait until I retired to finally get time to work on mine. They're fun and relatively easy to work on. Enjoy it! Post some photos!

Yo ando buscando un volante original para una 67 FJ40
@@mariofalfan2997Have you tried the forum IH8MUD?
I'm from Portugal, I have two BJ40s, I would like to see the head removed before changing the engine of the other FJ. more interesting in my opinion. thank you and continue
Hey! Thanks for the response. Your suggestion sounds interesting. I hadn't considered that. On that thought, I think I'll do a differential compression test. We do them on aircraft engines. Are you familiar with those? Basically, you pump compressed air into the cylinder through the spark plug hole and measure how much pressure the cylinder can hold compared to how much pressure you're pumping in. Nice thing about that method is you can hear the air escaping from the cylinder, and you can tell if it's coming from a valve or past the rings. If the rings seem good, and it only needs a valve job, your idea would be a good option. If it also needs rings, I'll probably just swap the engine. Thanks again!!
@elizabethpedro3103
I had similar problem when I was trying to start my truck soaking rings did bring compression up at the end my truck. I had to do a valve job there was several valves with Russ and pitting I was losing compression through the valves. Good luck to you nice collection you have there
I guess I'll have to decide whether to spend time and money on a valve job and maybe rings, or swap it out with the 2F that came with the project.
Bummer, keep at it!.
Thanks! I will!😊
Thank you very much for sharing this video! I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to seeing more!
