Golden Trout Wilderness - 8 Days! Day 1 - Horseshoe Meadows - Trail Pass - Tunnel Meadow

How far would you say it was to the first area you’d be able to camp around the south fork of the kern? Planning on making a trip, but we’re taking a 12 year old and want to know where to stop?

From Horseshoe Meadows trailhead, over Trail Pass, it's about 8-9 miles to the S Fork Kern. Trail Pass is a pretty easy 600' climb over 2.5 miles, then the rest of the way to the Kern is downhill or flat, with a couple mild rollers. To return, if you turned around there and went all the way back to Trail Pass, it's about 1800' climbing over 6.5 miles or so.
