Thank you for the education! I didn’t know to brush and sanitize my shoes before a hike. Will definitely do it now and be more mindful about my effects on surroundings. Mahalo 🫶 Is there a company by locals who will teach and lead little excursions around the islands? I’d love to join, learn and support next time I’m in Hawai’i 😊

I recently learned that some Indigenous groups (like the Dakota) refer to invasive species as "displaced relatives" basically putting the responsibility for that displacement on humans vs the animals. I feel that is reflected in your discussion after you killed the first sheep, working with the living things that come to your space. <3 really beautiful discussion about a "morbid" practice.

Some what off topic, this what frustrates me with America, I'm from Florida, obviously our track record with history is awful. I greatly dislike, as someone who is a latin American (mom is Panamanian and father cuban both naturalized citizens pretty much grew up Americanized as well) I've noticed that some unseasoned Americans don't like when others speak a different language other than English. But what pisses me off is that America as a whole doesn't have an "exact culture" we're made up of different cultures. Hawaiian culture is obviously vastly different and aside from their politics/history. It really irritates me that America is made up of immigrants and minorities but unfortunately, some white people have a say of what's in or not. If I want to speak Spanish depending on the white person, it makes them uncomfortable. If one were to speak Italian, oh, how beautiful and interesting. It's so ridiculous and hypocritical. You have white people who have either Dutch, Irish, or Italian blood in them from generations back. And claim to be whatever ethnicity, which is fine but forget at that point in time the reason you can't speak your grandparents native language because they had to learn English and blend in. I hope people understand where I'm coming from. I get annoyed by this shit. English comes from England it's not even ours. 😅 I just hate that this country doesn't make it a mission to at least globalize its education properly and inform people of its history and politics. Not just focus on one particular part of history. I wish we promoted more to understand that we're all different, that's okay, and we have to make an effort to not force someone to give up on their culture and blend in the "American way" it's just idiotic at that point. I find it amazing when people can speak different languages and more than one.

Mahalo. That was very well done. The answer to the question “What does Aloha Aina mean?” is very simple if you simply translate. But a simple translation to ‘love of land’, only scratches the surface of what it truly means. And, bruddah expressed it perfectly. That was beautiful. Big Mahalos to you all.

That is 100% true if you’re a good quality human being and you’re authentic and you’re humble your visit should be cherry. Yeah I must say there are a few folks out there that are disruptors that look for dispute that purposely aggravate and create opposition that in fact are born and raised here they are intimidating bullying act with malice toward visitors and treat them with distain and respect like they’re only dollar sighs. . Disrespect is unattractive and unacceptable either direction we have the ability to have a symbiotic relationship. When merry monarch comes to the big island the predator type locals come out I’ve seen grown local men use children to go up and ask tourists for money they are demanding it’s not OK it’s not OK also the way we treat the homeless population we are all accountable to behave with respect and dignity towards each other. When you slipped in the pigeon it definitely sounds like you can speak pidgin pretty good The common universal island language. 🤙🏽💯so Ah brah humor and humility it’s a great mixture to break the barriers.Sometimes reminding the locals that they have grown up in a magical place and they’re very privileged and mainland people often live in horrible places and save up their whole lives to come here respect dignity and civility it’s a two-way agreement true locals and the local culture at its core is love is honor is integrity. We are all blessed to be on these islands a hui hou.
