    • @KellyKGuitar
      @KellyKGuitar Před 14 dny

      A lot of players are too! Certainly nothing wrong with that. No need to change that, just get it as good as you can. For me, I see it as a missed opportunity to actually get a decent sweep in there. Three in a row! It CAN be tricky to hop that G string to do so, I’ll admit…..;)

  • @11611ss
    @11611ss Před 15 dny

    The first downstroke on the G string trips me up. Have to consciously remember to switch to down stroke there.. all the momentum before then is all ups. Great stuff as always Kelly

    • @KellyKGuitar
      @KellyKGuitar Před 15 dny

      I get that! Once you overcome that, you’ll enjoy being able to actually SWEEP across those strings. Otherwise, you’d only be doing two strings at a time before having to switch direction. It’ll sound better too…..thanks man!

  • @simplesimon4561

    How much would you say your guitar setup and effects impacts your ability to play sweeps cleanly at tempo? If you take away any EQ and effects and just run straight out of the bridge pick up or if you were doing them on an acoustic could you do them as cleanly or do you find amplification and effects actually make it harder to play without unwanted string noise at tempo?

    • @KellyKGuitar
      @KellyKGuitar Před 15 dny

      Good question! Gain and effects can certainly make one THINK that they played it well. This approach (in the video) works towards us not needing to rely on those things so much. Always strive to improve your fundamental technique and you’ll be solid on any instrument.

    Ive never seen anyone explain this as well as you do. Whenever someone makes a video about pull offs they refer to them as "flicks" rather than "slips" (they use more force to "flick" the string) and they only demonstrate on the high E string to avoid contact with other strings, and they never demonstrate how to pull it off (no pun intended) on other strings. I finally get pull offs now, minimal movement, just slips. Thank you

(please listen to the Intro lick of "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey.) There's a relatively easy cool lick that starts slow and then goes to blistering speed, it becomes a bit difficult to play clean, but after 10 minutes. (2x 5 minutes focusing only on it, I can now play it up to speed.) Thanks again and cheers!👏

    I found myself economy picking the first 3 notes in the A minor arpeggio, followed by alternate picking for the rest. That's how I learned to play that arpeggio and it feels natural to me. Am I missing out on anything by doing so? Edit: I should probably mention that the A minor arpeggio with the tonic/root on the 12th fret was the first arpeggio I ever learned.

    • @KellyKGuitar

    • @KellyKGuitar
      @KellyKGuitar Před měsícem

      Thanks! 🙏🏼 Yes, palm muting the lower strings is the only way to keep that set of strings quiet. The basic rule is that your fretting hand index finger mutes the strings higher (in pitch) than what you’re currently fretting…..and your picking hand takes care of the strings lower than currently being played.

    It's been somewhat two weeks that I finally understood these harmonics. It happened that I was doing them with bare hand alone, but always wondered what I got wrong when using a pick. For my surprise, it was just the same goddman thing: One finger plucks the string, the second gentle touchs it nearly the same time. Same thing for the pick. It plucks the string, them your thumb smoothly touchs it. Never rotating the hand, as you said. Ever since I learned, couldn't stop playing Forsaken by Dream Theater. Still hard to do pinch harmonics going upstroke. 😅

    Great content man🤘 Kind of an oddball question: I've been practicing Paul Gilbert's Intense Rock video legato section like its my religion. Probably about 6-8 hours a day and maybe 2-3 when I have work. Is it possible to burn yourself out from playing the same licks? I feel like I can get the licks slowly and eventually up to a close speed...but it seems if I step away to practice a song or anything else...its like once I go back to those licks, my fingers dont have it, and I have to start from ground zero. It seems like it's impossible for my mind and fingers to absorb these

    • @KellyKGuitar
      @KellyKGuitar Před 2 měsíci

      Thanks so much! First off…..amazing channel name! 😂 The answer to your question is YES! It is absolutely possible to burn out on anything. Especially if you constantly push for speed. Of course, you want to test yourself, but I would be sure to spend longer stretches of time on “horizontal” gains…..controlled and playing for longer periods of time. Of course this will be at a lower tempo that you’re capable of, but this is a highly overlooked aspect to the development of the technique I suspect you’re striving for. :)
