Leek scooter fest #18 2024. Walk around. 2 stroke sounds!
A walk through in the 2024 leek scooter fest. The only et4 about. Thought there would be more. Lots of lovely scoots, loads of the Chinese royal alloy etc lammy gp knock offs and some lovely italjet dragsters.
My favs were the unrestored examples.

  • @benmattock8729
    @benmattock8729 Před rokem

    Tighten your head bolts evenly until they deflect. The only thing you're going to do is seal the head gasket better and increase the compression ratio slightly, increasing NA power development. They're designed to be foolproof. If it won't time then your tensioner or chain are out and it's £35 to replace both

  • @benmattock8729
    @benmattock8729 Před rokem

    You spent 400x more in gas annealing the copper washers than you would buying 4 6p copper washers

    You don't grind valves like you're starting a fire. You definitely don't use a drill. Use the stick with the sucker. You turn them 90° until your blobs of grinding paste on the backside make a consistent line. You're overworking it. Your valves should offer the slightest bit of resistance and make a satisfying pop when they seat

  • @benmattock8729
    @benmattock8729 Před rokem

    I'm about 12 minutes in but amma go ah3ad and say when you're reinserted your pins thread your "m6" (I knew it was one of them) bolt into the pin then hammer on the top of you bolt. It prevents you damaging the pin or its thread to remove it if you're using the whole thread to punch it back in

  • @benmattock8729
    @benmattock8729 Před rokem

    A matched size deep impact socket on the valve spring retainer works better than a valve spring compresso. You push it down and the half shells pop out but can't go anywhere because they're caught within the socket and work better reassembling because you put the retainer and half shells in position and push the socket down and they all pop into place. Also, putting things like the rocker pins back in, you hammer them down and you here the pitch chamge when they bottom out. Basically, it feels different and rings different when you've hit bottom

    • @benmattock8729
      @benmattock8729 Před rokem

      Another thing about the rocker pins, because they're cammed, you'll feel them rotate into place as gou hammer them down

  • @benmattock8729
    @benmattock8729 Před rokem

    Don't use a head bolt. Use a disposable bolt to thread in to the rocker arm pin, a bit of plate to brace against the face of the head and a nut to pull the pin out of the head. They're a standard m8 or m10 size

  • @benmattock8729
    @benmattock8729 Před rokem

    That wasn't a light run with the honing stone, it was oversized and should be soaked in the oil you intend to run for 24-48 hours. It was too tight as you had to scrape it to get it out, 1-3 runs down the barrel should be enough to hone as you said when you finished that it was a bit much, much more than that and yourw starting to bore. Using the oil you intend to run isn't exactly important but just so long as your oilstones are saturated with an oil, the closer the better, spraying a bit on 10 seconds before you do it isn't enough. The saturating your oil stones applies to any oil stone whether you're sharpening knives, chisels, honing barrels or anything

    • @benmattock8729
      @benmattock8729 Před rokem

      Also, the wall doesn't really matter when gapping your pistons rings. The wall is the wall and the wall determines the ring gap. So long as it's flush, you've got it right. Push the ring in and then use the piston to make sure it's square with the barrel, then measure. The same goes for your base and deck surfaces. You aren't supposed to scrub them with sandpaper like a madman. You're supposed to smoothly run a flat oilstone over them with significant lubrication, ie. engine oil to get a perfect mating surface

    • @benmattock8729
      @benmattock8729 Před rokem

      Increasing friction to get your rings to stay put is dumb as shit because you want the exact opposite of that
