    Just changed the cam belt last week, probably should have made a video on that!

    Bulletproof engine, lent my brother my Mk4 and it came back in tatters! Still going strong but need to change the whole dipstick guide 🤦 even in late 2021, where i live these still cost €2000

      This car has now done 261000 miles. (420000 km) strong engine still. Just the bodywork in some places letting her down.

    Ah yes.. The click at the end... Thats what is very important

      Mine didn't click, but I've pushed as hard as I can and it doesn't seem to have any further to go. The broken one that came off slid off without a huge amount of effort either (ie, it wasn't really "clipped" into place), so I'm not sure if it's different on the MK V 1.9 TDI?

    I came here after snapping off the dipstick tube when refitting the thermostat housing. £3.20 at GSF but my local branch isn't open on Sundays

      Seems this is a common result of changing the thermostat hey. Hope it’s easy for you fit once you get the part.

      @@TRISTANorTRIS the old one lasted 280k miles so it's had a good innings. The lack of tube made it easy to suck out the old engine oil so not all bad

    What damage can cause ? Urgent plz

    • @TRISTANorTRIS
      @TRISTANorTRIS  Před 3 lety +4

      I doubt you will have an issue. The plastic won't be able to get past the oil pickup screen, thus not get into the engine. It will probably just sit in the sump forever and not cause a problem.

    Hi. I didn't know that the old dipstick cracked, so I've only seen oil spots under the car(Golf5) every day. After a look under the bonnet I've seen the old dipstick being broke and a lot of oil around it.
    Is it safe to drive the car a couple of days without the dipstick(until new one arrives) ??, since I've observed that the engine throws oil drops from that place.
    Is it normal for the engine to throw oil drops from that dipstick hole ??

      You will find the plastic has gone hard with age. You may have to break off old plastic. Strong hands and some large pliers will help.
