DIY Aquarium 33 Feet Long 4500 Gallons, It's a Monster!
Where’d you get the glass panels for the 4500 gallon and what was the total cost I’m trying to build that 😎
Here is a video I did breaking down all of the costs including the glass: czcams.com/video/R3W4XGmfBiI/video.html
So on the front do you wood fill in all the 2x or do you just fiberglass it and then epoxy it
If I had a large gap for some reason I would use wood filler or construction adhesive to fill the large gap before fiberglass, but for the normal gap one gets with stacked 2x4s I just fiberglass it.
Thanks for the reply ! I just took a part a 180 glass tank to use the front and back and am going to build a 14 to 16 ft by 4ft wide and 2 feet tall so I have been watching all your videos. Any advice or particular video you recommend I watch?
@@Oneking05 That's going to be a sweet tank! I did a series of videos of building a DIY plywood / fiberglass tank from start to finish, I give my experience and advice for each stage of the build...here is the playlist: czcams.com/video/GFh7Xaw1vGo/video.html&pp=iAQB
I have another question, lol . when you install the glass do you do two separate caulking joints one for the front gasket and then one around it or do it all at once ? And if you do it in two separate applications do you tape it off that way you don’t have to cut it away and reclean for the 2nd application. Any more details on this I would definitely appreciate it and thanks for your help !
There were preservatives added. It’s a neurotoxin to quite a few animals but ‘safe’ for humans. It’s generally applied to frozen fish for human consumption. I no longer purchase frozen fish to feed my animals unless they are specifically sold as fish/pet food. Avoid vacuum sealed products as well as they can have preservatives added. Always best to buy fresh, never frozen fish for feeding pets unless it’s specifically branded as pet food.
I do always buy raw, no preservative frozen seafood, but I agree with you that there very well could be either a contaminant or a preservative added that is not reflected on the label as they would most likely only look at it from a human consumption stand point.
Will those sharks ever out grow your tank? And what would you do if so?
They could live out their life in their current tank, but I am moving them to the new 3000 gallon Predator Bay tank that I am converting right now for them...better foot print for sharks and larger.
those are the nicest peacocks on the internet. FACT. I challenge anyone to find better.
They are my pride and joy for sure! 😊
I might have missed it if you already mentioned it. Is the bottom of the glass sitting on the bottom of the tank or 1 - 2 inch off the bottom?
It is sitting on a big, thick bead of silicone right on the bottom of the tank.
Who else thought it was a huge Oscar eating a small one on the thumbnail??
Never noticed that until you mentioned it lol 😊
Sexy fish dang😊
Those bass are stunning!!!!!😎😎😎
Agreed! 💯%
This awesome! 😂👍

Well you know the saying Todd it's not how big your comment is, its how you use your comment...errr I think I may have that mixed up with something else...thanks for being here and commenting! 😊
@@AquariumDomain. 😂😂😂😂
One day, your shark tank will have a rectangular (?) tube archway over the doorway, making the 3000 the main part of a loop tank, back there.. May need to periodically suck a little air from the arch to keep the water level up in it.. Edit: if you want.. 😎💦
I have a plan for water to move back and forth between the tanks, not sure about the Sharks themselves lol 😊
Thanks for updating us 👍 keep it coming
You bet 😊
Cool

Great job

Hi. I was wondering how you deal with wave pumps in a wooden aquarium for salt water usage. Do you use them at all(?) and if so where would you put them? A wooden "wall" is thicker than a glass one, especially for the bigger aquariums, so I assume the magnetic wavemakers won't hold there. Thanks and cheers from the Netherlands, Wilco
Woot Netherlands! I do you wave pumps in all of my marine aquariums, and the method is a little different in each. The 600 Reef Slope is a stacked 2x4 build, but if you look at the build video you will see that I left cutouts near the top for the Maxspec Gyre pumps running on the back (the magnet will hold through 1/2" plywood). On Predator Bay DIY build it has glass panels on all sides, so standard Vortech & Maxspec Gryres on the glass. The new Predator Bay 3000 is a 2x4 stacked build and does not have cutouts, so I will be using multiple Sicce pumps in an internal closed loop for water movement. Lastly the new marine estuary build I am starting on will have 1/2" plywood with areas in the framing to allow for regular magnet wave pumps to be used near the top of the aquarium (water line)
2:50 that’s genius concept…multiple glass panels instead of just 1……your videos helped me so much thank you
I’m in Tacoma if you ever need help! I didn’t realize you were local 👍🏻
Appreciate that, but I am actually in Maryland...I was just saying that it felt like I lived in Seattle with how much it has rained here lately 😊
In the room with the estuary and 3000 it would be cool if you added some finishing trim to the ceiling too. My parents installed a wooden tongue in groove plank ceiling in their outdoor porch and it looks amazing
I kinda need to leave it open for the access as I have a lot of wiring and plumbing passing through there, but I was thinking about painting it a dark color to make it sort of disappear and help with reflections.
I would definitely be interested in some of those true parrot cichlids when they're about 2 inches. I'll pay the shipping cost of course. I had a really nice one and one night my atobapo pike went rogue and killed her 😞.. was one of my favorite fish.
Someone in the tank got to the eggs about 2 days after I filmed that and ate them all up, which I honestly I am happy about as these guys will all be moving into a bigger tank fairly soon. 😊
This is the best! I wish I was allowed sharks and rays in New Zealand. I've got a raja ampat inspired mangrove estuary tank that I built myself.. It's 200x100x36cm so quite large compared to most aquariums but nothing compared to yours.
They don't allow you to keep marine species of sharks and rays? Why is that? Usually when fish are not allowed is because they are afraid of them getting into the local ecosystem....not something that would happen with marine animals.
Curious- are you a contractor? How do you maintain all those tanks? Lastly, do you do custom builds for fans?
Nope not a contractor...just handy. Wetland / sump w/sediment filter and plants is they key to making it easy to keep big tanks. I haven't built anything for anyone else yet, but it might be something I do in the future. 😊
Simply move the plugs up higher than they are now. Pretty easy to shorten the plastic pipe they are in as well as the wiring.
Yep, I got there later in the video 😊
Awesome update, I love the smaller update videos like this too. Super happy to see the Aquarium Domain channel growing. I remember subscribing at less than 5k and now look at you almost at 100k. I'll be here supporting you when you hit a million! Keep up the good work.
Thanks Phil! Building the 4500 gallon seemed to grow the channel quite a bit....crazy to think that it is getting close to 100k 😊 Just taking a break from moving that electrical outlet where the marine estuary tank is going...I need to get it built quickly...you will see why in the next video lol 😊
Give this man an inch and he will build a tank on it!
A whole inch, heck yeah I'm putting a tank there lol 😊
I think an intervention may be needed. Your tank addiction has gone too far, but it makes for good telly 👍😂
What are you talking about, I haven't even started building the rooftop tanks and digging out the sub basement for the basement to the basement tanks LOL 😛😛
Dude you got it bad 😂😂😂be turning coat closet into tanks soon props on the tru parrot eggs been looking for one to live with my overgrown chocolate cichlid figure they would mesh well
True Parrots are very active breeders, if these eggs hatch it will be the fourth generation of True Parrots born in my basement 😊😊
Yay more updates 😁!!
Woot! 😛
Thank you 👍
😊
You, Sir, are doing amazing work! 😀
Thank you sir! 😊
You should move the true parrots and Tiger severum to the Big tank. Would for perfect 😊
They are going to be the feature fish in one of the new 1200 gallon builds. 😊
Now that I see the FX4 I wish it was a give away as my filter is dying on me 😢🇿🇦
Can't give the fx4 away...I need it for my grow out tub / quarantine tub 😊😊
Another good video & very interesting, exciting times ahead , I’m here for the salt water but generally enjoy your build videos , determination & motivation, keep the great work fella, see you on the next one 👍🏻
Thanks, I appreciate that! Lot's of saltwater content for the foreseeable future. 😊
Great update.
Thanks Hutch! 😊
Great video, as always, moving that plug was the smart way to go! A previous commenter called you Jeremy, i did not know that was your name until i read that, makes it more personal tho! One question with all those tanks and equipment, what's your electric bill like?
Hehe yeah first name is Jeremy 😊 During the Spring/Fall electric bill is in the $300-$350 range and during Summer/Winter it is more like $500-$600. I have finished up most of my home improvement projects...so I will probably start to look at solar and see if I can find something that makes economic sense....as electricity is my only big bill.
heck yeah this is exciting. every time I watch your videos I start to thing.....maybe i should do a large tank in the basement. I think you're a bad influence on me. haha
Hehe yeah I probably am...I know I should say don't do it, but......I know I would do it and enjoy the heck out of my tanks...so I am probably the wrong person to talk you out of it 😊😊
Generally speaking, how do you handle/prevent humidity in the basement environment? Next update sounds exciting - graduation day!
Ductless mini splits, I have 2 running the main basement and 1 running the annex...work great and are very energy efficient. I could not do what I do without the mini-splits, led lighting and dc pumps. 😊 oh and sump/wetland filters 😊😊
relocate the plugs in question. awesome job!
I came to say the same think. it would be an easy job the way its wired.
Yeah that is the conclusion I came to later on in the video 😊
Looking good as always you never stop being busy
Gotta stay active 😊😊
You could easily move the plug socket , just reroute it to somewhere out of the way 👍🏻 keep up the great work excited for future updates
Yeah, after thinking about it some I came to that conclusion later in the video...I am going to move it up to about 16" below the floor. 😊
@@AquariumDomain. I don’t know how you find the time and energy for such big projects, hats off to you mate. Really interesting following along with you so thanks for sharing 👍🏻
@@pinotgrigio4707 Trust me I have more energy some days more than others, but I like the work so that helps 😊
Man you are going to burn yourself out!!! Chill and enjoy your hobby a bit more? Or am I just jealous of your work ethics hah ;)
😁
I feel like I am never getting things done fast enough lol 😊😊
I’m not sure what your building codes are but you may be able to move the plug up the wall to create room.
Yeah, after thinking about it some I came to that conclusion later in the video...I am going to move it up to about 16" below the floor. 😊
This looks awesome. Will the mangrove system be connected to the new predator bay? I assume this will be an area to grow out the eggs?
It will be where I grow out the eggs for sure and then a future home for smaller shark species and some other smaller predators. I was originally planning to connect it into Predator Bay 3000, but I may not now...still up in the air on that one. 😊
Try to get your hands on a Bali cat shark. If you ever breed some I would be interested in an egg :)
@@chrisschuehle8138 Looks like a newer species to the hobby, any idea of anyone who has them for sale? I have never seen them for sale.
Any chance of seeing a maintenance video? Do you use a drip system or do you do water changes on all of your tanks?
Mostly I pump out my settling chambers or wetland and do a partial water change. Other than draining and filling up the tank, I pretty much showed what I do in this video with the Discus tank. 😊
