Yellow Peril Ninja 250 I Solder Another Tank Leak !
I neglected to test for leaks, after I repaired the tank last time !
So, after I put the petcock back on, and re-installed the tank-
It Leaked Like A Pig When I Filled It ! BACK TO SQUARE ONE.
I pumped all but a half gallon out, got the tank on the workbench.... and there was another hole near the others ! Even a double coat of epoxy hadn't sealed it. After draining the gas, including the cup that remains inside untill you remove the pet cock, I put the tank in the sun to evaporate out the tank until it was dry. You can watch me prep, solder, and test the tank. I had to use a soldering gun because of the danger of explosion. This is slow, but allowed me to finish the repair job in less than an hour.

Kitchen Aid Coffee Grinder Rubber Drive Repair

We have had this old style Kitchen Aid Coffee Grinder about 25 years. I replaced the rubber drive about 7-8 years ago, and it held up well, until I overfilled it this week. One rubber cog broke off, and a second began to split. Here I repair them using super glue. I have fabricated small replacement rubber belts by cutting O-Rings to length, and then joining the cut ends with super glue. This h...

    Hi Larry, I will send some photos of my supply fixes. Mine also had that horribly stiff jacket. I removed it and the wrecked Jones plug. I used a plastic 1/2" loom material for a new jacket- very flexible. I removed the leaky dual can cap and replaced it with a similar but 3 caps in the can- and used the 3rd cap to replace the leaky stand alone 40uF cap. I added a rear panel 5A fuse socket and a proper 3 wire line cord with a new Heyco strain relief. The previous owner had put in new solid state rectifiers- but never did anything about accounting for the 60V higher HV. He also installed the rectifier for the relay supply backwards. Wiring was horrible with (3) HV electrolytics just hanging by their wires!

    I never saw the top of your P.S. Does it have the 5R4 rectifiers or 2 diode strings? Mine has the strings (4 each with 1M equalizing resistors) and appear to be Gonset originals. However, there was no voltage dropping resistor to account for the 60V lower voltage drop. My PS was also missing the HV bleeders/voltage equalizer resistors. I calculate around 240 Ohms at 20W minimum for the dropping resistor assuming 250mA quiescent plate current.. Tnx, Dale W4OP

    The Aftermarket Chinese Petcock is marked PRI at the top where you expect to see Reserve. The Vacuum shut off is Bypassed in the up postion! They are trying to tell us this That Reserve is Also The PRIME position ! PRI bypasses the vaccuum shut off, and allows you to prime the fuel lines and float bowls when there is no engine vaccuum ( not running). That's fine if you know about it...But... if you leave the petcock in PRI then only your float bowl needle valves are preventing gravity from filling up your cylinders with gasoline. The smart money will set the petcock to OFF when the bike is parked.

    Really good video Dave. I use a direct digital synthesizer plugged into the rear receptacle. I built it from Greg Latta's article called "A Modern Keyed VFO for Vintage Transmitters" featured in QST. The on board VFO on my G76 drifts way too much. I had to replace one of the PTT relays and the ptt hv relay in the power supply. Both relays I bought from Amazon.

Also had to replace the transmit relay in the power supply and in the radio. It is one of my main go to AM rigs. I check into nets almost daily on 3875KHz. It has great up mod positive peak modulation.

    I also have worked with very high DC voltages, up to 250 kilovolts, with X-ray microscopy systems but, I wanted to suggest a very easy way to get a sheet metal screw started: Use Phillips head screws exclusively, even if you have to replace the whole set. Start each screw by holding it onto the tip of the screwdriver using the tip of your index finger of the same hand you're holding the screwdriver in, as if you've got the screw "attached" to the screwdriver. Now, pass the screw completely through the hole that's drilled through the loose panel, before putting the panel in place, while continuing to hold the screw in the screwdriver's tip. Next, use the screwdriver and your free hand to position the panel such that you can feel the tip of the screw fall into, thus finding the associated female hole. Gently drive the screw into the hole just a few turns, leaving the panel very loose. Repeat this for each of the panel's screws before tightening any of them. Finally, very gently tighten the screws from those closest to the panel's center, working your way out to the corners. Tighten the screws only snugly. Do not over tighten any of the screws to avoid galling the female threads. When you become adept at this you'll see that an equipment panel can be installed very quickly, with finesse. Hint: why not put a little grease or oil on that squeaky chair before recording the noise, over and over again? That's what the Pros do.

    Thank you, very nice. I was looking for this video because I've been playing with my HG10 and several problems pop up. One of the things that's always been a problem for me is the term ZERO BEAT. I've always taken that to me you tune to the point where the tone disappears. Like if you are using the 100htz calibrator built into most radios, you calibrate your dial so you are right on just as the tone goes to zero yes? BUT, if you run into a problem when talking to someone on CW, you are supposed to ZERO BEAT their signal, so you set your VFO to the point where your signal just disappears? and you are on their signal. Hard to understand and I've been doing this since 76. I ask someone that's also been doing it a long time and they say, no, you set your VFO so the tone sounds the same as their signal, and that's ZERO BEATING their signal. So I started out my voyage into ham radio with a borrowed HW16 and HG10, always set the vfo to the same tone as the op I'm trying to talk to, and haven't heard any complaints. Just a while back, one gentleman that was recording my end of our QSO was telling me my signal was drifting high. I can hear that in the recording, but it also seemed he had to adjust his RIT every time the exchange switched between us. Maybe I'm talking about two different things here, but trying to calibrate the HG10 I'm finding once I get it right on 40, the other bands are off, and can't get it right. So now I have a new tube, and I'm going to go through the procedure again using the ZERO BEAT I'm hearing from your demonstration and hoping for a different outcome. Thanks again. de WA1YDK 73

    • @captlarry-3525
      @captlarry-3525 Před 2 měsíci

      stick to your original understanding, the frequencies you are comparing are the same when there is NO tone caused by dis-similar frequencies beating against each other. Hence Zero Beat . When working CW... you do this with your bfo OFF. The receiving station adjusts his BFO to create the tone he wants. The VFO manual will explain how to set the calibration for each band. Follow the sequence and instructions given, step by step including how to place the indicator on the dial string. Sometimes it is necessary to slightly bend tuning capacitor plates to achieve the best tracking. It is not a digital device - so a few kcs off may be the best you can get somewhere on the dial. Keep juggling both ends.

This is now 34 years old, and now demands a skilled enthusiast rider/collector with mechanical skills, or deep enough pockets to pay an independent mechanic to maintain it. The first you can see me flip up with my finger in this video...it is a hinged weighted mechanical shorting bar... normally help open by the lid... with the lid off, it directly shorts to ground the b+ where it passes through the partition between the power supply and the PA. compartment. In addition you can see a white clip lead. this is shorting a micro-switch which controls a relay which disconnects the primary of the transformer when the lid is removed.

      You can't always test a circuit properly of its dead. Sometimes it has to be live and in operation so and you just have to know what you're doing. If you're not sure you're competent not to kill yourself then you aren't. There's no way to protect people who are incompetent. Companies try to stupid proof things but is that really fair to go against natural selection?

      Yes, especially radios with printed circuits, when there is no pictorial to show you parts location. The wires which connect various boards can be very difficult and tedious. Only problem is the speaker in the Yaesu power supply is 8 ohm. Are there any specs printed on the speaker in your power supply? Any help is much appreciated.

    Nice bike, you got there. At 52, I decided to take the weekend class. 6 mos later I found 07 f650gs. Was told it had sat for year, that became 2yrs. I'm wondering if longer. With new battery & some gas it started right up. After the second fill up it didn't sound as good. Now it won't stay running. Thanks for videos. They will help me troubleshoot it.

      crud in the fuel ? take a look at my fuel pump video...it is very easy to remove the pump and clean out the tank, test the pump. Then you can flush clean gas through the system...and get it going.

      I agree, I am very lucky to have it... and even luckier that the tube is very good. Apparently this is one of the cleanest linear amplifiers ever offered to hams, in terms of IMD products. I should have made a video of it in operation. The sum total of the actual maintenance on it so far has been cleaning, resoldering the plate connector, visual inspection, and giving a whack to a balky relay on the main power control board. I am now experiencing some HV arc-over, so have to get it on the bench and find out the cause of that...likely something simple.

I have a tentec Titan II...when I run it I do so at 1000 watts... my sb-200 running at 500-600 seems to be all the power I ever need, for the way I operate. when I had bmw's with bing carbs... I really had no problems...and very easy adjustment. The problem comes when the carbs are difficult to acess. Constant velocity carbs are very reliable. Today we are seeing problems induces by ethanol.... which absorbs moisture from the air rapidly, creates gum, and it corrosive to some alloys. In comparison Aviation gas (which is mil spec) remains good over 10 year periods. So we are having our machines degraded and disabled, by crap fuel... which also gives 20% worse gas milage. So in a futile attempt to reduce emissions, we are increasing fuel use and carbon emission by 20% and causing carburation problems that result in engines running worse.. and making unneccssary emissions. There is no doubt that we can now achieve optimum mixture and minimum emissions over a wide range of temps,and altitudes using fuel injection. However there are still engines meeting EU tier 5 standard using carbs... they do offer great field serviceablity. But in America...as long as we have ethanol..they require the owner to either drain them when layed up... or keep running them and never letting the fuel get old. Regular use solves these problems... IF you can find Non Ethanol Fuel.. Use IT !

    • @DuggleBogey
      @DuggleBogey Před 5 měsíci

      I try to keep ethanol free gas in my bikes, especially in the cold months when I might not ride as much, but one of the things like about fuel injectors and ethanol gas is you have to ride them often to keep them running well, so I try to ride as much as I possibly can! It's tough with 5 bikes tho...@@captlarry-3525

    Capt Larry, I have the same model, where did you get your parts from?

    • @captlarry-3525
      @captlarry-3525 Před 6 měsíci

      Byron, haven't needed many... depends on what it is. Airfilter came from Honda, oil filter is a Napa Gold, Tires on-line mounted by Cycle Gear, coolant hose was used from ebay. AGM battery off the shelf. I think I bought a carb overhaul kit s on ebay, some places like Partzilla have some OEM parts at very high prices... might have gotten jets there. I haven't needed fuel pump or alternator, but the choices there are either after market or used. I would have zero qualms about using an aftermarket fuel pump. Guys use larger alternators from another model honda V-twin if they need one... or aftermarket has them from cheap chinese to american. I think I would just rewind mine with heavier wire.. but mine works fine ! right now lots of these bikes are being parted out... so it is a very good time to buy and stock parts you may need in the future. In england they make a lovely set of new cooling system hoses... close to $300 but first rate. I see whole engines being sold for a few hundred bucks... and sometimes whole used(dead) bikes under $1000. So for the real long haul 20-30 more years... getting what you want now is wise. On the other hand I expect mine to go another 100,000 miles with no big mechanical difficulties. Where do you live ?

    • @captlarry-3525
      @captlarry-3525 Před 6 měsíci

      you can find the carb rebuild kits ( jets, gaskets and diaphram if you need it) on ebay. The only source for the little emission control diaphrams on the side will be used parts. It is a pain to remove the carbs...but a good cleaning, setting the float level correctly, and getting the idle mixture adjusted right... will probably take care of most problems. I have one intermediate jet that has been consistantly annoying...and I will probably break down and get them on the workbench this winter...and put an end to that! I was pretty agressive running carb cleaner through the carbs... doing as much as could be done without taking them apart... I think there is a simple kit available to rebuild the petcock... which I would alwayd do rather than install a Tee instead. Its a safety thing...but the tee is simple .

    I have an SA-2060A and it has a problem where the insertion loss with either coax1 or coax2 is pretty drastic. When I put it inline with either coax the signals drop so low they can barely be heard. This is the antenna switch assembly. It’s as though the SO-239 connections are faulty somehow. I’ve ohmed them out a there’s continuity. Any idea or suggestions what may be the issue?

    • @captlarry-3525
      @captlarry-3525 Před 6 měsíci

      Take the box off the back as shown. Do NOT TRY TO SKIP OPENING IT UP ! stop the video at 9:31 Is your ceramic switch installed backwards ? Are the contacts and wiper burned up from HOT SWITCHING? That can cause the problem...and is about the only thing that can go wrong. There will be Visual and electrical cues in the unlikely event of a failed SO-239 connector .Simple ohm meter testing will let you follow the "signal" through the switch. The resistance should be too low to measure, less than .1 ohm. disconnect an so239 from the switch and apply a high voltage (100-300 volts) to the center pin only, and see if you can measure leakage to ground with a volt meter. Reading must be ZERO. If none of these problems exist... are you tuning it wrong ?

    • @SummitBidTech
      @SummitBidTech Před 6 měsíci

      @@captlarry-3525 Thanks for the reply. If o didn’t mention it, it used to work but it’s been in a box for many years unused. I’m trying to get it back online. I've never used the tuner with an amplifier so doubt its been burned that way. I haven't even tried transmitting because the problem I'm seeing manifests itself when receiving. I haven’t even tried transmitting or tuning since it’s apparent there’s some major problem when just connecting the tuner to the transceiver. Here is to what is something I found while troubleshooting: When I connect the antenna to either the coax 1 or coax 2 so-239 and then: while connecting the tranceiver to the input so-239, when the center conductor of the patch cord coax touches the center of the txiever so-239 I can hear signals. As soon as I connect the shield to the tranceiver so-239 the signal goes away. That is, as soon as I screw the sheild onto the tranceiver it's like it shorts out the coax and all the signal disappears.
