  • I don't call this bike "The Yellow Peril" for nothing!
Before I prepped the tank for coating, I found 1 hole which was only holding gas because of the Yellow Paint! I soldered a patch over that in the last video..and thought I was ready to coat the inside of my tank !
Well, Murphy must love me, because the Acetone used to thin the epoxy I was coating the inside of thank ate right through two more paint hidden holes! Had I used the expensive Hirsch tank coating... the same thing would have happened as the MEK and Xylene solvents in that stuff are even hotter !
So, here I am. Hopelessly trying to make a nice looking reliable gas tank out of rusty Sow's Ear.
Clearly a used tank is a better option than spending any money on this thing. The only good news is there is nothing left to lose on this leaky garage queen tank. The paint is toast now, and I have learned that long term reliability probably not really in the cards. So, I guess what we do have, is a very good test bed for testing various repair methods. . Maybe I'll get a giant Aircraft Decal that says: EXPERIMENTAL. Why Not? Kinda dress the pig up.
When I calm down, I will think about whether to use JB weld, or solder to fix the 2 new leaks. JB weld on the outside, won't damage the epoxy coating I just put on the inside... while soldering will require me to clean, and re-coat the sections heat will damage if I solder. Maybe I will try using the big soldering gun instead of the torch... try for a "delicate" repair.
Can you hear me laughing ? Just shoot me now.
I'm too old for this shit anymore.
