I too have been racked with torment and harrowed up by the thoughts of every sin I ever committed, complete with suicidal ideation - and just like Alma, through repentance, I remember my pains no more. The difference is my harrowing took over 10 years. The healing power of The Atonement is miraculous and the relief, the joy that follows is truly exquisite. Thank you for yet another brilliant lesson that produced many tears - of joy. You impart so much precious knowledge every lesson you teach - and this is my second time round with you in these chapters. "Thank you" just feels so inadequate!

My I recommend a book called Putting on Christ. A great conference talk called Conversion is the goal. Realizing even the Apostles were not converted until the Holy Ghost changed them. Then they "knew" And then they where ready to be crucified like our Savior. That is perfect faith. We all can have that blessing.

I have been a service missionary in the LDS Addiction Recovery Program for 13 years, so I resonated with your presentation here. As you were talking about Satan delivering anesthesia along with sin, I thought of some of the addictions those in our meetings deal with like pornography and other sexual addictions, food addictions, gambling addictions, social media addictions, online gaming addictions, etc. They are not only delivered with anesthesia, they are delivered with euphoria, dopamine, extasy, etc. which makes them all the more difficult to escape. In some ways alcohol and drugs are the easy addictions to break because they are merely the anesthesia of choice to mask the character weaknesses that drive them. They are deadly physically, of course. And because they are so frightening, many alcoholics and users are willing and even driven to seek help. Those doped with euphoria too often do not seek help, and that is tragic. I hope lessons like you have given here can help those good Unshaken saints who listen to you to seek the help they need through the Church's Addiction Recovery Program. We need them and they need us.

The common thread in the storiea of the Anti Nephi Lehis amd the Ammonihahites is death. There are soke really difficult things to wrestle with in these chapters. It soesks to omw of.tge mist difficult questions in Christianity: why does God allow son much suffering? And because it is such a difficult question, it also might be the greatest test of our faith: to keep believing that God will make everything right even when things seem so final from a mortal perspective.

  • @harmonywoodrome9911

    Thank you so much.😍👏

  • @BestOfComeFollowMe

Thank you for the sensitive manner in which you discussed suicide. However, though I may be missing something, I can't find evidence in the scriptures of Alma contemplating suicide. Alma 12:14 is the verse where Alma says the wicked would be glad to "command the rocks and the mountains to fall upon us to hide us from his presence". It seems that that verse cannot be about suicide because the verses that precede it make it clear that Alma is referring to the wicked after their death and resurrection when they stand before God to be judged. And Alma desiring to be extinct to avoid judgement (Alma 36:15) also seems to be about fearing judgement, not about wanting to end mortality. Again, it is still an important topic and was well-taught. It just may be out of context here. Otherwise, good stuff as usual. Thank you for the lesson.

Jesus in the bible says, "Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish" Luke13:5 Yes, perish, and it would be wise to repent to the Jesus in the bible who is not created in a heaven, and is not a spirit child. Jesus is omnipresent, omnipotent, He is a sovereign God, He is eternal, the Alpha and the Omega, the first and last, He is God.

The hymns I believe in Christ and I know that my Redeemer Lives. are playing as I listen. We use them interchangeably. In a court of law if we are on the stand and we are asked, "did you see the man holding a gun?" Your answer is I believe I saw him holding a gun that would not hold up. If you say "I know I saw a man holding a gun" that satisfies the court, attorney, prosecutor etc. Dissecting words is important. It gives us reason to ponder what we really intend to say. It depends upon the situation, the context, the experience. The word Belief. Tell me what your beliefs are, what are the basic beliefs of the Church of Jesus chritst of latter day Saints? We don't ask, what do you know? Although that would be a cool conversation to have. Remember the story about the man who asks, how do you know your church is true? the response is, do you know what salt tastes like? Yes, can you tell me? We could spend weeks dissecting this. Bottom line I know I am a child of God, I know the church is true, I believe in Christ, I believe the family is eternal. The list could go on. If we use believe and/or know we are on a really great path and that is really wonderful and we are progressing in the right direction.

The subject of suicide really strikes home with me. While living in some of my deepest sins, I too thought of taking my own life, especially when my darkest sins were exposed to the light! The weight of my sins literally drove me to my knees. It was then that the Spirit whispered to me to take responsibility for what I had done, and things would work out the best they possibly could. I did and the Lord has been extremely merciful with me and His grace has strengthened me to repent. But my association with suicide does not end there as earlier this month a good friend took his own life. It has devastated his family and friends. He was surrounded by so many who loved him. But for some reason he could not see nor feel that.

  • @lornarosenstein2235

Up until last week, and for several years, I was a Sunday School teacher for the kids fresh out of Primary. Loved it. I listened to most all the CZcams channels that discussed the lessons and gleaned snippets from each…a fresh perspective, a new approach to familiar material all of which I am deeply grateful. However, I rarely wrote down my deeper dive takeaways, then sent them off to others who, like me, really appreciate more meaty material, followed by an enthusiastic pitch to listen to Unshaken and Brother Halverson. I’m very grateful for the Spirits nudge to not only listen but also commit to paper my thoughts, personal aha’s followed with ‘and thus I see’ as my belief deepens and my testimony of Gods goodness and grace is underlined, again and again. So, I thank you, especially for adding the extended versions. Thank you for the feast the Spirit offered you and the full to overflowing table at which I pull up a chair and feast, a fork in each hand. Following your reference to Elizabeth Barrett Brownings poem that began’ Earth is crammed with Heaven…’ another poem came to mind. I don’t know the author ‘ God spoke to me today in the garden and I, who was waiting on words, almost missed the conversation.’ Thank you for your faith, the work these segments reveal and your sensitivity to the Spirit. Carry on.
