  • An extended, verse-by-verse study of Alma 30-31, which recounts the preaching of Korihor and Alma's mission to reclaim the apostate Zoramites. This lesson focuses on the tactics of an anti-Christ: to blame and belittle, to question beliefs and excuse behaviors; Alma's (and others') response to Korihor; casting out doubt, burdens of proof, arguments for God's existence, personal testimony, self-deception, the Rameumptom, prayers of pride, apostate Christianity, election & isolation, prophetic prayer, the gifts of the Spirit, and more. Join Jared Halverson for your weekly Come Follow Me study of the Book of Mormon!

Thank you, Brother Halverson. I've been watching since the first. I was inactive and suicidal. I'm now a service missionary at the church office building. Another great lesson

Sadly, it's taking me 6 hours to get through your 3-hour lesson, because I can't go 3 words without having to write down all the notes, ideas, concepts, revelations, enlightened new awarenesses, and more. I'm exhausted with all the new understanding I have. 😀 I feel I won't be so vulnerable in the future, better understanding the "methods" used by the adversary (or just well-meaning Korihors) bent on "enlightening" me.
I feel not only more informed, but better armed to see and understand truth. Thank you!

"Philosophy will never be enough. God is after the heart, not just the mind. It's the softened heart that receives the greater portion of the word until it knows God in His fulness. It's the hardened heart that knows nothing concerning His mysteries."

Thank you for the videos as always Brother Halverson! A thought that came to mind as I was listening was, "Is the pulpit a Rameumptom?" I see this as I witness people use it as a travel log or venting session, especially during Fast Sunday, instead of its intended purpose; i.e., to bear pure testimony of Jesus Christ. Just a thought 🙂

I had a question about this.
"And notwithstanding the many labors which I have performed in the church, I
have never received so much as even one senine for my labor; neither has any
of my brethren, save it were in the judgment-seat; and then we have received
only according to law for our time" (Alma 30:33).
Did Alma and the brethren (and do current LDS leaders) have the right to receive
wages like Paul taught it was in 1 Corinthians 9:14 and 1 Timothy 5:17-18?

I love this concept of blame versus belitteling. 24:15 . I am a Christian counselor, and I work with individuals with pornography issues quite frequently. I've noticed how my clients demonize pornography. Often I find my role as switching between these two, either demonizing, or actively belittling pornography robbing Porn of its power over people. I never quite realized what I was doing until I saw this clip. What are your thoughts on this?

But even if we or an angel or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preach to you, let them be under God's curse. Gal 1:8. If any other gospel is taught other than what is in the scriptures, the gospel of the bible, the word of God, then it is not of God.

@@hollayevladimiroff131 I appreciate your enthusiasm. I love the Bible and am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. May I ask you what the Gospel is according to your theology?
To such a question I’d reply with the fact that the Gospel is Acts 2:36-44 and 1 Corinthians 15:1-8. God sent His son Jesus down to earth to help redeem mankind from spiritual and physical death and overcome the effects of the fall which would have been permanent. God gave this life as a chance to learn to follow Him and His laws, learn to keep His commandments and learn from our mistakes and sins. God gives us the promise of eternal life where we can live with Him and our families forever if we so accept that gift which he has given us. We can become like God and receive all that He has.
What do you mean by “ the gospel of the Bible” the Bible is an anthology of ancient texts dating over thousands of years old that have been miraculously preserved and translated by scholars from Hebrew and Greek. People have many different interpretations and theological presuppositions about the many texts of the Bible. We as members of the church trust Modern prophets and apostles to expound upon its meaning for our day.

Theology 101 - IF God Existed
And had improvements, She would make theology & scriptures redundant, indoctrinating children with a fantasyland vocabulary would be a crime.
    Obviously
If God was more than a tool of fiction, then indoctrinating children with a believer's fantasyland vocabulary - would be a crime, scripture & theology would be redundant, wolves in sheep's clothing; Pretend faith had value, the only sign given would NOT be Jonah: A believer murdered by a other believers. Prayer would be useful in a children's hospital. Mountains would move on command, since faith would not be worthless.
The King of the Jews would not end up stuck to a stick.
"Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree:" - Galatians 3:13
Note: See video: Proof the Roman Government invented Jesus' story - in 12 minutes.

satan can lie to prove God doesn't exist, or if the person belives in God, that He's a liar, doesn't work miracles, has nothing to do with us today because He has spoken in the past and doesn't need to speak today. satan can logically explain away everything by twisting the truth. Fortunately satan can't touch what God writes into our hearts, what is spoken Spirit to spirit.
For me that would be enough. But I have seen mountains moved with a word, I have seen many miracles, healings, and divine intervention, not only seen with my eyes, but experienced for myself. The heaven's are not closed, there is real power in the Priesthood of God.
What you call magic, or I call miracles, is so basic and simple to understand how Heavenly Father does it, that a child can comprehend it. What some call supernatural, when understood, is actually the natural, it's simply a matter of perspective and understanding.
Galatians 3:13 Christ did redeem us, he took our place on the cross, we being cursed, worthy of death (spiritual or otherwise) for our sins.
The Son of God gave his life as a sacrifice, it wasn't taken from Him. It had to happen to satisfy the demands of justice.
It's illogical to say Romans invented Christianity when there's proof they were rounding up and exterminating Christians, even as a spectacle in the great Roman coliseum.
We teach our children, so that they might have a knowledge and understanding to whom they can look towards and turn to for Hope, Faith, and healing in this life and have Exaltation in the life to come through the Son of God. It is only though Him that salvation can come. He overcame the effects of death, a free gift to all that we will be resurrected and live again in the flesh. He overcame the effects of sin, there by making it possible for everyone who accepts His terms to receive spiritual salvation. This has been Gods plan from the beginning, the sacrifice of animals in similitude of the one great sacrifice, Abraham also being in similitude of the sacrifice of the Son of God when being commanded to sacrifice his own son Issac.
I respect your right not to believe, and hope as coexisters here on Earth, you can extend the same respect for those who do believe. Be well.
