Latest update: some thoughts after a visit to the radiotherapist
Some thoughts about my latest visit to the Radiologist and the upcoming treatment starting in a few weeks time.
Mixed emotions but keeping positive
Thank you for watching this video, I’ve been making these videos as a vlog sharing my journey through Advanced Metastatic Prostate Cancer.
My world literally fell apart on Sept 15th 2021 when I was diagnosed with Advanced Prostate Cancer which according to my Oncologist is incurable (although ive never accepted that) Questions such as how long have I got left how bad is it , in fact, a whole host of frightening thoughts, where sudennly swarming around my mind and exploding at opportune moments when I felt most vulnerable.
If i were to be honest, I was lost and lonely to begin with. People don’t know how to deal with someone who has stage four cancer. It’s a taboo subject. I honestly didn’t know who to turn to for help. It can be a dark place and I only wish I could of found a channel such as this to help me through those early days.
I started writing a blog whilst I was in hospital and recovering at home after the initial treatment phase.
I then decided to make this vlog because it seemed a better way to get my story out there. I want to provide a channel where I would continue telling my story for as long as I can and invite comments from others that can also help and share their own experiences.
Cancer can be a lonely place, and I hope this channel will help someone else who may be a bit lost and feel alone whilst dealing with their own diagnosis and experience.
Nothing is ever as bad as you think it will be, and that seems to the case so far with my experience with Prostate Cancer.
Thank you for watching. Please comment and subscribe if you feel like it, and please share the videos with anyone you think may find them helpful

Well done mate. Radiation has becomed more focused over the years. 12 years ago, the radiation i received spilled over into the bowel and bladder. This time around, the radiation was more focused, and didn't have as much pain. We just keep going, shoulders back, and smash this, as Troy Hawke from the greeters guild on CZcams would say.

Thanks for the update Woody. You're on the right track in understanding that the oncologists and therapists are going to give you the full list of possible side effects, while each of us has our own experience. Don't worry. If there's pain it can be managed, but you may have very little pain! Everything is worse in the anticipation. And your team will help you get through whatever comes. Best of Luck. Take your wife out for a meal, and stay positive! Reid

I hoped radiation will help, bet very soon after finish of radiation treatment paralysis of legs came. My hopes have gone.

Woody - always great to hear from you and so so respectful of your positive approach towards your prognosis. I had a very similar experience when I was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer with Gleason Score of 5&4 back in March 2013. My urologist gave me a life expectancy of 2-3 years. With the blessing of the Lord I am still here today, 9th July 2024, albeit on end of life care. I found my oncologist had no interest in me as a human being. I was purely a number, entering his conveyor belt to go through his narrow consideration of available treatments without him stepping outside his strict code of practice. Thankfully, the Abiraterone hormone therapy was a Godsend and kept my PSA below 0.10. However, when my PSA started to double quite dramatically and with my insistence on looking at alternative forms of treatment he finally placed me on an intense course of 10 sessions of docetaxel chemotherapy. No explanation of the serious side effects I have since suffered nor any variation on his consultation approach. I finished my chemotherapy with my PSA at 12. No concern from my oncologist. I demanded a second opinion from The Royal Marsden, who despite being a leading prostate cancer hospital fed me the same NHS jargon as received from my oncologist. I then sought consideration for any appropriate trials. I was initially considered for a gene focused trial but unfortunately I did not meet the necessary criteria. I was then again referred by my oncologist to The Royal Marsden Hospital. They only had Stage 1 trials available where I clearly required Stage 2 consideration bearing in mind my PSA had now gone up to over 700. My oncologist threw in the towel in November 2023 and put me on palliative end of life care with an anticipated end of life by February/March 2024 and definitely by end August 2024. I found my clinical NHS care to be nothing more than appalling. I’m still here to tell my story due to the blessing of the Lord, my body’s response to Abiraterone and my own research and reading, The NHS at nursing level, my GP and my Hospice have been brilliant. The Consultants have not been up to the standard I had anticipated. I will purchase this book especially as the proceeds will all go to a great cause. Stay strong Woody and remember you need to take ultimate control of your care.

Just came across your channel. My husband recently diagnosed with PC. Is now on hormone therapy. Next is radiation . He had a bone scan as they thought it had spread to his hips which it hasn't thankfully. Your right about thinking positive, it's me that's worrying, reading things online, some scaring the life out of me. They can't operate, because he is in his 70s and the recovery would mean he would be left partially incontinent, so now onto the next stage of treatment in a few months. All the best to you x

Hi Sharon thank you for your comment Sometimes you can scare yourself to death with all the stuff you find online. Some of it’s good but some not so. The good news is it hasn’t spread to his hips and hopefully nowhere else. When I was first diagnosed it had spread everywhere but thankfully none of my vital organs. I’m sure if he tries to live a healthy lifestyle plenty of fresh food veggies and fruit and stays away from the processed stuff, gets plenty of exercise and stays positive that is the most important thing to keep positive, you will have many more lovely years to come with your husband ❤️

I use a Keto Mojo device, and try to keep my GKI ( glucose-ketone index ) below 2.0. I know cancer cells love fermenting glucose and glutamine to grow. But these cancer cells can’t use ketones. My diet now consists mostly of meat and animal fats. By using the device I know which foods to avoid. More information can be found by searching: Thomas Seyfried on CZcams. It’s amazing how some cancer patients’ tumours disappear from the scan, after they adapted their body to a ketogenic state and by fasting. The body turns on those cancer cells, it’s call autolytic cannibalism and autophagy.

Was waiting for your video Woody. Radiation has improved over the 12 years of my treatments. First time i had radiation to the prostate bed, it spilled over into my bowel and bladder which was quite painful. Last summer i had one lymph node radiated, with very little side effects. Just a slight pain in the area from time to time. Targeted radiation has vastly improved during the last 12 years. You have the big picture. I think that is the secret. Some GPs are awful, what right have they got to refuse you a test I’m 100% sure if they were going through what we are going through then they would soon get tested. I had PC symptoms for 8 months before I was given a PSA test. My GP was sure it was sciatica, who knows if those 8 months would have made any difference to my prognosis, something I can’t really spend too much time thinking about really. Im glad yours was just a blip that’s a relief.

You have a great attitude and I’m sure that zapping those small tumors will be successful. All the best to you.

I find this very poor treatment and can’t understand why. I visited my doctors in December 2023 to ask for a PSA test. Results within weeks…..MRI before the new year…..Biopsy in January…….told I’ve got prostate cancer in February….put on Hormone treatment……started radiotherapy beginning of June ….3 more treatments left. The treatment and support has been brilliant throughout. The NHS can do a first class job and should do. If it works at one Trust it should be copied elsewhere but the system is not connected so it fails. I’m just grateful that I’ve been so lucky.

Personally I’ve been treated mostly well by the NHS it’s just some individuals that let the side down My GP when it first started didn’t offer me a PSA test despite all of my symptoms, it took 8 months to get my PSA tested to be fair I had never heard of it so didn’t ask but my GP could and should have at least given me a blood test , he was convinced it was sciatica, I’ve met a few other men who have identical stories as mine. Anyway it’s water under the bridge and I don’t want to spend too much time wondering what might have been. I’m glad you have had a very good experience with the NHS that’s good to know

Hi Woody, I live in South Africa. The sun is always shining here and there is always the risk of developing skin cancer if you have a light skin. I developed a growth on the lower eye lid of my right eye. I do not know if it is cancer or just a benign growth but I went on a high nutrition diet for about two months and the growth have shrunk noticeably. I would like to share the diet with you. The soup Ingredients: - two handfuls of Chopped broccoli, one chopped onion (purple), two bags of green tea, two pinches of mixed herbs, two sticks of cut celery, Two handfuls of frozen and crushed spinach or kale, half a table spoon of crushed garlic, Three shakes of black pepper, seven shakes of turmeric, two tablespoons full of apple cider vinegar (with the mother), one bag of white onion powder soup for flavour, a hand full of cooked red speckled beans and a handful of cooked mince meat. Just add all the ingredients in a pot, add boiling water and switch the stove on high till the water boils. Then lower the heat until the water simmer, Let the soup simmer for an hour. The soup is now ready. I would only drink water in the morning. At 12h00 I would start eating the soup. There will be about two helpings that you can eat in the 12h00 to 18h00 time frame. I also ate a fruit salad every day in the 12h00 to 18h00 time frame. (Note: Apparently turmeric reduces the effect of some chemotherapy drugs and thus should not be taken during chemotherapy.) During the rest of the week I would also eat food that contains vitamin D like avocado’s, mushrooms, liver and eggs in the 12h00 to 18h00 time frame. It seems to be working for me, maybe it will also work for you. I pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus Christ that you will be healed. Amen. I would also like to share the following six videos with you about salvation and two videos about evolution: Evolution vs. God czcams.com/video/uc_W9VtzJ0A/video.html DESTROYING Evolution In Under 3 Minutes czcams.com/video/sWecPwrQv2c/video.html Watch the Holy Spirit Work in Her Heart (Very Moving) czcams.com/video/iBEoI2u6kII/video.html Fearing The Lord, God’s Discipline & Sharing The Gospel czcams.com/video/dES5WW66Mro/video.html A Clear Gospel Presentation by Pastor Steven Anderson - How to go to Heaven czcams.com/video/IXEeMWCxyrQ/video.html The Plan of Salvation czcams.com/video/PmkhRMPvt_0/video.html How to Get Saved czcams.com/video/ajWdkuvrT6s/video.html The Truth About Hell (Selected Scriptures) czcams.com/video/AVzbh_dLq3s/video.html Best regards Chris “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. Thank you Chris, both for your recipe and all of the links, I’m not a religious man but I do admire those who have faith in their gods whatever religion they follow.

Hi Woody My PSA started to rise very slowly over the last few months Was stable at 0.1 for abour a year then went 0.2 then 0.3 and last test was 1.5 . Had a visit this week with urologist she has already booked me for a bone scan wiith a dye for tomorrow. Im worried and yes anxious for results i get a follow up with my Oncologist Midfle of July I finished my chemo treatmenf last Sept and been on Nubeqa and Zoladex and Zometa from day 1. Im not sure if they will change treatment or monitor the pSa awhile longer . The extreme fatigue the last couple of months has been awful. I agree with you the weather here in Ottawa Canada has been terrible im generally very upbeat but i found myself overwhelmed with grief and what if's . The sun always shines . Thanks for your video Woody i think many of us are on a very similar path . I reach out to everyone with Love and support . One day at a time . Like Tom McDonald's song Cancer "The days are long and the nights are hard "
