Chemotherapy: my journey begins| living with Prostate Cancer

- Just been to see the oncologist , she’s concerned about my continuing rise in my PSA results plus other things.
She suggests restating scans and if there is a further rise especially if it’s significant then we go to chemotherapy next.
Here’s a few thoughts straight after the consultation I may feel different when I’ve had the chance to absorb it all.
Main thing is to see everything as a positive.

My world literally fell apart on Sept 15th 2021 when I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.
Questions such as how long have I got left how bad is it in fact a whole whose of frightening thoughts were wondering around my mind and exploding at opportune moments when I felt most vulnerable.
I was to be honest lost and lonely to begin with, people don’t know how to deal with someone who has stage four cancer, it’s a taboo subject. I honestly didn’t know who to turn to for help.
I started writing a blog whilst I was in hospital and recovering at home after from the initial treatment phase.
I then decided to make this vlog because it seemed a better way to get my story out there. I want to provide a channel where I would continue telling my story for as long as I can and invite comments from others that can also help and share there own experiences.
Cancer can be a lonely place and I hope this channel will help someone else who may be a bit lost and feel alone whilst dealing with their own diagnosis and experience.
Nothing is ever as bad as you think it will be and that seems to the case so far with my experience with Prostate Cancer.

Hi Woody, at the end of last year I was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer (gleason 10), which had metastasized to my bones. I'm 71 years of age and my oncologist recommended I undergo triplet therapy, which involved 6 sessions of Docetaxel chemo together with Darolutamide (Nubeqa) and the 3 monthly injections of Prostap SR. After doing some research I decided to follow the advise I had been given and had my final infusion last week. I can honestly say that the treatment was nowhere near as bad as I had anticipated - no nausea, no loss of appetite or sense of taste and very little fatigue. My hair waved goodbye but that's no big deal! In addition, my last 3 PSA results showed up as undetectable. Of course, we are all different but I have no regrets having taken this course of action and remain positive that I have a good many years ahead of me. Hope this give a little reassurance and I'm sure you have the beating of this. All the best Woody.
I have prostate cancer gleason seven. I like to just do active surveillance.But your little story has scared me. Can you please tell me when you found out about this. It sounds like you just got it. did I t start a few years ago and what was it then. Your gleason score your biopsy et cetera.
@@ricknowak4582 Sorry to have scared you, that was furthest from my intentions. I experienced leg and back pain during summer of 2023 and, after various scans and biopsy, it was then discovered that I had advanced prostate cancer with a high gleason score. I was told this had probably been growing for a long time but was assured that I had many years ahead of me with the appropriate treatment. I've refused to get down and negative about this and look forward to having a fulfilling life.

Hi Woody. All the best. I have heard that chemo used for prostate cancer is not as potent as other chemo used for other cancers. Chemo is also used up front to treat prostate cancer rather than as a last resort. Also chemo can kill prostate cells rather than put them to sleep. Also there are other second generation drugs that can work in a different way to complement the zoladex. You still have a lot of life to live mate. 🙏 Ian.
Hey Woody, Don’,t compare prostate cancer treatment to general,or other types of cancer. your new treatment will hopefully easier to take. I am on zolladex with not much in the way of side effects as well as nubeca. worst for me is my emotions, so I tell myself to shut up. I cannot stand to see others in mental pain as I seem to absorb it and go to pieces so I have to ignore it. I had my third zolladex today and I insist on a local anaesthetic first. My GP said if it stops Woking we’ll go to the next level. I have gone from psa of 720 to 0.9 and hopefully still going down. You have a great attitude so just work even harder on it as it is vital. Good luck woody my husband as just started chemo after having prostate removed last year had spread to his bones keep positive and all the wives and partners that go though this with them it’s hard for them as well ❤️❤️❤️ 0:00

Hi Woody,
I've been through the same situation as you and opted for chemo (docetaxel) when PSMA PET showed a spot in an area where my oncologist did not want to radiate, at least not just a year after my previous radiation in that same area.
6 month after chemo the spot was no longer visible with PSMA PET.
The treatment with Docetaxel was not that bad as they give you medications to counter the side effects. Yes, you need to be careful for a couple of days after infusion and try not to catch any serious infections as your immune system gets a hit. But you should get shots that will boost your system back to normal pretty quick.
Don't be scared of this kind of chemo, it is pretty mild compared to most other types of chemo. Good luck!

Good luck, dear Woody. There are two possible chemo: docetaxel and cabazitaxel. Cabazitaxel has fewer side effects on nerves.
Chemo is not an easy thing. One day after chemo an injection for repairing immune system is absolutely necessary.
Hey Woody. I've been on Zoladex for nine months now. No immediate side effects from the injection, just fatigue and emotional side effects as time goes on. I'm on Xtandi as well. Might ask your Dr. about that, as i've heard it's a game changer, being second generation hormone therapy. You are correct in trusting your Dr, as you say, they are the experts. You get better care with that attitude, as the Dr knows, he/she will not be under stress when dealing with you. I've taken that approach with both my surgeon and radiation oncologist, and they can't do enough for you. Wishing you all the best Woody. Stay strong, regards, Carl.

The zoladex has been a real plus I had no after effects whatsoever so ever. This is so nice after being on Degaralix which caused me lots of problems
@@carledquist4039 Yes I do have to admit what you're saying is true. Get along with the doctors let them do their thing. Hi question my doctors all the time. I do a whole lot of research and it seems like I know more about it than them. Seems as soon as they see that you have a little bit of cancer they want to give you all kinds of treatments. Just saying. I know they're the doctors so you have to put your faith in them I guess.

Woody. Great attitude. Sounds to me that your doctors (who are scientists after all) have been thoughtful about your particular case and have made their best recommendations. You live in a health system that can give you options and gold standard treatment. The thought of "Chemo" can be frightening, but we know it's much more sophisticated than even a few years ago. As you say, you've been around it and know what to expect. Just keep going. All best wishes for the next few weeks! Reid
Where do you come up with that word..... Gold standard treatment. I don't believe any of this stuff. It's ALL ABOUT money not about your health. I have prostate cancer and I am going to refuse everything!
@@ricknowak4582 Everyone is entitled to determine what they deem best for themselves. I've had prostate cancer for 11 years and I think I'm healthy today because of surgery, radiation and ADT. I'm in Canada. Neither my doctors nor my Cancer Centre make money from the treatments they undertake. I am confident they are working in my best interests using the best info and treatments available. But certainly you need to do what you feel is best for your own situation.

The news often puts us into a mellow state of shock the first couple days. That may be where you're at. I understand how you've previously looked at chemo as the last resort. However, theyve come out with new treatments - even a couple in the last year - that work after chemo. So, it's just another phase but there are things you can do after. So, it's not the end. It's not the last thing. You're doing good and getting outside and walking and all that helps.
@@ProstateCancerTRtR That's what gets me. They're always coming up with....NEW treatments! New medications. What the hell The other ones didn't work?!
Stay positive! You are handling your health journey with such a great attitude! I’m on xtandi, which is oral chemo. - so you might ask about it.
I’ve been xtandi for 2 1/2 years i don’t think it’s oral chemo though are you talking about enzultamide tablets
Woody I have been on Zoladex for three years. I refused Chemotherapy I hope I don’t regret that decision. It’s good that you remain positive Woody.

Hi Woody, stage 4 Gleason 9, I had Chemo before starting on Prostap injections, I can honestly say the thought of Chemo was far far worse than the Chemo, wore the Ice cap and even kept my hair, up and at em Woody ,I find the more you move the better you feel, good luck pal big hugs. Phil

Have a psma so you know where the cancer has recurred. Then have radiation to those areas . Are you on daraludamide ? It will help greatly.
