It's not really small, but huge? I think it's a good weekend size if you're a normal packer and I've done a month in the EU with an earlier version while packing light. If you're a minimalist, then yeah, for sure, it's large.

Guide? Yes. Plan? To some degree. As guides we plan the food and schedule the camps and whatnot, but we're not around for the office/overhead/booking. Typically folks call and book, and I get stuffed onto whichever trips I can fit in during the summer. This one was slightly different (and, frankly, pretty rare) in that the other guides and I took our own families. We all still paid for our kids to come along, but it was pretty casual in that we all knew each other.

Huh. You know, you're absolutely correct, but I have to say I've never noticed it. I've hiked miles and miles in the desert with it and yeah, my back gets sweaty for sure. I haven't checked the website in years, but I'd like that - I need my low tops resoled. I like the low tops for casual wear and the high tops for more hiking - I was using them in the desert and they kept sand out a bit better. I never did fall in love with the crepe sole version, but I don't have a good reason why not. I think they conform to the foot pretty well, especially in the footbed area. The uppers take some time to break in, but after a few weeks they're quite comfortable. They did rub on my feet a little, but not really any more than, say, a pair of Birkenstocks. It took a bit for my feet to get used to them, but it wasn't long. They definitely wear warm in the summer. Very warm. Like sweaty warm. More of a shoulder season shoe for sure.

Well yeah. Kinda. I guess. If it was a bag I was checking, yeah for sure. If I was trying to fit 4 days of clothes and some camera gear and this bag in a single carry-on, then I think that would be a tight fit. It's canvas so it doesn't squash down all that much, but obviously if you took the inserts out you'd get it mostly flat. So in a big bag, or hard shell suitcase? Sure. In a small bag? Probably not.

Several years later, even with the better 360 cameras now released...I’m not sure anything meaningful has changed with 360 cameras. The tech is better, software better, quality better, but they still feel like fun “gimmicky” cameras. I’ve still not noticed anyone telling any kind of stories via video with one- Just people using the fun effects that these cameras now make easy to film and share- I don’t think spending $500 to make a short “tiny planet” video is going to last...I have a feeling the pricing on these camera’s is going to plummet over the next 12 months.

Oh man - I'm not sure I'm going to help with the non answers I'm going to give - but I'll try. I'm only about 5'9" and I run the strap extended almost all the way. I probably carry mine about the same place you want to, and I've got about 2.5" of "reserve" strap. 6'4"? It might sit at your waist, but I'd be surprised if it hung much below it. There may be some taller folks on the Tom Bihn forums that can answer that better than I can. The halcyon fabric is slightly more crinkly than the Cordura, but not (for me) a deal breaker amount. It's much lighter. My wife has the same bag in Cordura (it's much older) and I'd argue hers has aged better than mine. I do like the halcyon enough that I bought the daylight briefcase in it though. If I was planning on having it be my main bag for years, I'd probably go with the Cordura. I feel like I waffled and didn't really answer your questions. Hope that helps a little though.

Love the ending. Just toss it on the floor. Instead of “mic drop”. It’s bag drop!

Hi, I just got the 40L black hole duffel as a carry on (it seemed to be marketed as a great overhead compartment bag). In your opinion, is this a good additional pickup? I know my 40L black hole duffel will be my gym bag for years to come!

Yeah for sure. I have the black hole wheeled duffel, and although it's technically a little too big for the overhead bin I've used it on plenty of domestic U.S. flights. All the black hole stuff seems pretty bomber! Good luck.
