What a beautiful horse! 💕🔥 What a beautiful healthy back!
Poor mare is in pain. No human would like to be a polo pony - it's horrific how they are ridden 😢
Healer! 💕🔥

Rein back is a difficult exercise for any horse. It’s easier to teach from the ground in-hand, without the weight of a rider. The horse should have a certain roundness before starting rein back. The hind legs should be vertical under the horse not out behind. Teach the horse to side step and shoulder-in to gather himself. Use an ordinary cavason don’t be tempted to tie him down with gadgets to force him into a posture . When side steps are good and easy, side step him from the centre/three quarter line to the wall arriving parallel to the wall- keep the steps small and slow to conserve his roundness. On arriving at the wall halt softly, his hind legs should be vertical under him without any resistance or contraction. Without too much delay at halt ask with the voice and at the same time with your legs apart lean your body in the direction you want the horse to step back. Only use a gentle vibration of the lead line on the nose ring on the cavason to keep the head and neck straight and low - do not use force. If the horse try’s to move forward just fix your hand in place- don’t force him back . Usually the horse will back away from your fixed hand and take his first step back immediately relax your hand and make much of your horse. One or two steps is sufficient to begin. After his rein back ask the horse to move forward a few steps. Try and keep the horse calm and soft, reward the slightest obedience. When ridden make sure the horse knows half pass well. Same principle, use half pass to take him to the wall and halt in balance. Ask rein back mainly with your back and seat, keep legs relaxed. Hands very soft, do not take on the reins- if the horse trys to step forward fix your hand in place, don’t pull backwards. When the horse feels a fixed hand they usually move away ( back) from the pressure, immediately relax your hand. If the horse does not cooperate, move calmly forward, relax the horse and yourself, then begin again from halfpass and ask again. General principle - calm , forward and straight in all things. I love Michael's way of training I love watching him ride he's got such a natural way with horses
Great man great horse
Horses learn to hate the ring, the drudgery of work. I see an unhappy horse.
Lol I watched Steve Young with his horse napping not wanting to go past a herd of goats with bells on everyday, so he walked him backwards so the horse was to busy and couldn't focus on the herd. Didn't take long before the horse was comfortable.
You are the most amazing horse person. Total respect.
I raised a Morgan type filly who was still nursing. I used a coke bottle and calf manna. When she was about a year old I borrowed a horse trailer and parked it in the yard. She had never seen a horse trailer and I thought she needed the experience. She was loose in the yard. I started up the ramp with a bit of grain to put it in the trailer and she saw me with the grain. When I started up the ramp I heard clop clop behind me as she came right up after me. She ate the grain, sniffed everything in the trailer ,stuck her head out the window and looked around and then followed me back down the ramp. I never did use the lead rope. She thouroughly enjoyed the adventure.
This is a very nice non showy training session that certainly does use well timed pressure release, despite the comments, combined with positive reinforcement in the touch. It’s important I think that PR does not get negative association unnecessarily and that we recognise what the methods are without the need for judgement to better learn and understand what makes it work. Thank you.
Love your approach Kind understanding and always trying a path to partnership through understand
And that's how I taught my horses to load. I had no problems. You have to remember her roses are stronger than humans but what we ask is the horse to think about being in a partnership
This beautiful horse looks like he’s enjoying every minute of this ‘game’. He’s beautiful.
just love this
Wow Michael, your patience, empathy and kindness shine through again, as always! I love how you meet the horse halfway!
This guy is great. I hope he makes more videos! Super helpful, I love how quiet he is.
Good riding but you may want to find this horse a job that he likes.
Witchcraft lol
Gorgeous horse
That was really useful. When I get on a different horse they usually end up walking with their noses near the floor, and I wondered if it was ok. I was always told to get more contact but always felt that was wrong
Even a human cannot be trained in such a short time. Congratulations.
That is a lovely explanation of pressure and release being used in an elegant and finessed way. Thank you!
That bl**dy loose stone! The pony may not have been bothered about it, but I was. :P Anyway, well done for bringing about a clear change in behaviour and attitude with the minimum of fuss.
Not helpful at all. It’s great you can do all that after the fact but what steps did you take to get there?
I just ordered two of your books for myself for Christmas! Can’t wait to dive in!
@MichaelPeace thankyou for this. It's shown me how to 'rope them in' when I'm on my own. No need for 2 people!
It has recently become known that a fair percentage of rearing, kicking, head tossing, tail swishing, and refusal to go forward may be because the horse is in pain....go check out some of the videos and info about that before you decide the horse is just misbehaving. 🐎💔
This guy is one of the best horsemen I’ve ever seen.
Is it his bit? Seems to fuss with the mouth and stretch his neck outward some…
So many so-called horse “trainers” with tens of thousands of subscribers, and then Mr. Peace, one of the best actual horsemen I’ve ever seen has so few relative views. I guess most people want flash and gadgets and fancy camera work. It’s a shame. Please keep posting videos! It is much appreciated!
You are a wonderful trainer and a genial corrector. Your books are super. Thank you for sharing your videos.
Thank you. You have a very empathic way. Lovely to see. Struggling leads to little good. You find the calm way there.
Why do you get on like that P.S your amazing ❤
I have been training with natural horsemanship for 15 years and it is ALL about feel. It is interesting how behind in actual horsemanship people seem to be in the UK. In my area in Canada and also in the US, this sort of approach is common place.
Wat een geweldige trainer. Zo respectvol naar het paard en heel duidelijk naar de eigenaar. Een aanrader om zijn boeken eens te lezen. Geweldig veel informatie.
I’d check for kissing spine or another source of pain.
Michael you are amazing! I always enjoy watching and learning from you! I am so sorry that the trainer that you spoke of didn’t have the grace to watch you work. He could have learned something new. Maybe send him this video. I wonder if this mare would object to the tie downs of polo riding. It would be fun to see you reschool her to be able to lower and extend her head while being ridden and to be able to use her back. Definitely not polo.
Horses just love you Michael, because they know you love them! So nice to see!
Once again...amazing. Such a friendly, and at the same time decisive way of making the horse understand. (The dope test story is hilarious 🤣).
Mit viel Gefühl und Geduld gemacht
Wonderful to watch.
❤Just beautiful I must be really going horse crazy crying about a horse being untraumatised❤
Nicely done!!! 👍
Quite calm equine conversation. Just wonderful to watch.
