Podcast | The Battle Over Free Speech and on Campus
Over the past few weeks, protests on college campuses over the war in Gaza have sparked debate about the extent and limits of student and faculty free speech rights. In this episode, two leading First Amendment scholars, Keith Whittington of Princeton University and Geoffrey Stone of the University of Chicago, join Jeffrey Rosen to discuss the current debates over free speech on campus. They also discuss Whittington’s new book, You Can’t Teach That!: The Battle Over University Classrooms.

    Better to completely de-register as a voter. Remember that being registered to vote is your written, legal, consent to be under administration of so-called sovereign officers - no matter who wins the elections. Voting has not, ever, changed the monopoly bank's militarily enforced Exclusive Economic Zones. By being registered, as the Palestinians were, you give consent to be torn apart for the crimes of a so-called sovereign leader. Just like all Arabs in Gaza are subject to genocide today whether they voted for Hamàs or Fatah. Abundant trade is why so-called sovereign bankers genocide people. They profit from militarily enforced Exclusive Economic Zones. The forced separation of people from markets is profitable Apartheid. Why is the Israeli Shekel legal tender in Gaza and the West Bank? Publish, _ARABS ARE NOT CHATTEL,_ on so-called sovereign monopoly money. Remember that a statement of sovereignty is not secular. End Global Apartheid

    You are correct on a number of points. The US today is ruled by an oligarchic regime. If the Civil War had somehow been averted, slavery would have diminished because ot couldn't compete with mechanized farming and manufacturing. Those opposed to the war were right, it was a disaster that solved really nothing. And the whole thing was a damn shame. I'm puzzled why you think that opposition to civil rights would have helped anything. True, the 13th - 15th Amendments were widely ignored in the south. But in the north, they created opportunities for blacks to attain education and political power. Without them, they would have remained an oppressed, powerless minority nationwide. And l doubt that slavery would have disappeared altogether without any law against it. For one thing, it would be a very attractive option to those oligarchs. Thanks for listening.

    It was wrong for Russia to invade another country, yes. But if that country was not couped by NATO, posing a threat to Russia's borders, it would not have invaded. If China launched a coup in Mexico or Canada, or anywhere in Central America, they would invade it day 1, not waiting so many years and working on diplomacy. There is a video on my channel that exposes this NATO plan for what it is, maaaaaaaany years ago, before any of this even took place.

    Ms. Franks is spot on. You can't have a marketplace of ideas if the marketplace is constantly flooded with misinformation. Or if the public can't even determine what is or isn't real. We are well down this path already, and the First Amendment is actually a-hindrance to dealing with the problems of misinformation, online foreign propaganda, and AI deepfakes. I hate to say that, but we need much stricter control over false information online. It's too late to try to solve these problems by educating the public.

      Never is a long time. Crimea has been an independent country more than once. 1145: Greeks and Phoenicians 1421: Empire of Trezibond (Byzantines) 1441 - 1770: posession of the Crimean Khanate (Mongol invaders) 1774: recognized as independent by Czar Catherine the Great 1853-1856: Crimean War (French won) 1921: autonomous republic 1941; conquered by Nazis 1945: Crimean Tatars massacred, USSR takes over 1992-2014: Ukraine possession (except for Sevastopol) 2014- present: Invaded by Russia, again The strategic position of Crimea makes it crucially important to whoever is in charge of Russia. But clearly it hasn't always been a Russian posession; only during periods when Russia was strong enough to conquer it. 30 years from now, Russia will collapse due to declining population and low birthrates. Crimea will probably become a Muslim territory.

Do you know that the WEF believes that they are gods? That they believe they know better? Did you know that the UN are giving money, phones, etc. to illegals with the help from the Biden administration? Democrats are allowing and some Rino's are destroying our country!!! Is there anything we can do about it? Get AI out! Reform our Judicial system back to "common law". Take out the corrupt, treasonous characters out of our government!!? I think whats sad is that even THIS video constantly refers to the 13th amendment as it "abolished slavery", when in reality it did the EXACT OPPOSITE. Read it again ""Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, EXCEPT AS PUNISHMENT FOR CRIME...shall exist within the US" Meaning, the 13th amendment actually ENSHRINED slavery in our country, it just put ONE stipulation on that slavery, that the person be convicted of a crime. Why is this NEVER mentioned by ANYONE talking about it or mentioning it?

    The founders created the Electoral College to prevent what they called " the tyranny of the majority" or mob rule. Unfortunately, they ended up creating a system which can be exploited to create a tryanny of the minority. In the 2016 election, the Democrats had millions more votes but the EC went to the Republican guy. We need to either scrap the EC, or return it to its original intended function; an independent, nonpartisan committee for selecting a President. Removing the EC would require a Constitutional amendment, an almost impossible task. But making it independent and nonpartisan could be done state-by-state. Once 10 to 15 big states went that route, it would create a situation where the public would begin to realize how corrupt the 2-party system is.

    • @brianniegemann4788
      @brianniegemann4788 Před 4 dny

      Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that every citizen has the right to vote. The Constitution gives each state the right to decide the "time, place and manner of elections". This means that states can make it very difficult for certain people to vote. This is happening in certain Republican states, where polling places are limited in Democratic districts and voters are forced to wait in long lines. But in Republican districts, there are plenty of voting booths for everyone. Some states have tough ID and residency requirements that make it harder for college students to vote - because college students usually vote Democratic.

He played a crucial role in liberating the country from tyranny, which ultimately led to the abolition of slavery. So far this debate has said nothing about the elephant in the room - or the donkey. The 2-party system is why we have such close elections. It's why the popular vote in the presidential "election" doesn't always get the majority of the EC. Because the EC is controlled by the state party apparatus; they are required to vote as the majority party directs them to. The founders intended that the EC would be an independent, nonpartisan organization that would manage the selection of a president from start to finish (as described by the first speaker). The political parties have hijacked the whole process, creating "primaries" and "election nights" which are self-serving party promotions. Constitutionally, there's nothing to prevent a Republican state from ordering all its ECs to vote for Trump even if he got only 40% of the vote. We don't need to abolish the EC. We should abolish both parties and their corrupt fundraising system controlled by billionares and special interests. Restore the EC to its intended role as an independent selection committee free of partisan interference. We would surely get better candidates than an elderly bureaucrat and a shady hotel-casino owner/ reality show host.

  • @brianniegemann4788

    l do like the idea of three presidents! A 3-person executive committee would very effectively restrain the excesses of a rogue executive like - well, you know. The Constitution might be amended to make the top four Cabinet positions ( State, Defense, Treasury, Justice) elected offices, chosen by the Electoral College. The president couldn't fire them, and they would have a vote on all executive orders and legislative acts. The President would be empowered to act unilaterally in national emergencies, but only for 30 days, and could be reversed after that period by a 4-to-1 or 3-2 executive committee vote. While we're amending, let's put in a ban on private campaign financing. The major parties have become private clubs where giant corporations and billionaires pick our leaders for us. Only public campaign financing can give us a truly representative government. Oh, and term limits for Congress and the Supreme Court. Thanks for listening.
