    Two questions I’m going to give this a go in a couple weeks while I don’t need the car daily… 1. If I run into the carbon issue where you can no longer crank the car by hand, and the valves are open but you can not crank the car… what to do? Just blow it out? 2. Of course you’d want the oil to be warm but is it better to just immediately drain the oil without even starting after doing this? Appreciate any help!

      @nelsinivr6 on the first one - yes pretty much all you can do is blow them out and keep working it... for the oil it's your choice - I run my engine wth the B12 but some people are worried and drain it without running

    BMW N63TU owner here. This engine is notorious for oil consumption. Over the winter at 130k I replaced all 32 valve stem seals and was underwhelmed, even borderline upset, when I saw the oil consumption went from a quart every 200-300 miles to a quart every 500 miles. I thought this month-long process of changing the seals was the definitive fix for this. What didn’t click immediately was one weird thing: while changing the seals I would take an air nozzle to the cylinders to blow out any debris, and carbon would shoot out and sandblast my face. Most of the carbon was smaller sand-like particulate but there were larger chunks that blew out at first. As it turned out, burning oil for so long left significant carbon deposits on the piston crown and on the piston rings. I came across this video and knew exactly my issue was stuck rings, and so I bought six cans of B12 and did two 6-hour soaks while manually rotating the engine. A few cylinders were completely empty after a few hours and had to be topped off. After two days of soaks I suctioned out the remaining B12, changed the oil twice, and on the second refill used a newer (not BMW LL-01FE approved) engine oil targeted at reducing piston deposits. After 1,500 miles the oil level just ticked below the ‘full’ mark. Another observation I saw was checking the O2 sensors. Before the B12 both upstream sensors were sooty and black. 1,500 miles after the B12 treatment the passenger side O2 sensor was a white/gray as expected, but the driver side sensor was still sooty black. And so I’ll perform another two soak sessions on the driver side bank which will resolve all oil burning, likely making this the only non-oil burning N63TU with over 100k miles.

    • @ETMotorsports
      @ETMotorsports Před 9 dny

      @eric6218 there's lots to unpack here... first of all, take your car out of Canadian tire as soon as humanly possible, second - a rear seal can never cost 4k... make sure they're quoting you the right stuff and you understand the quote...a rear seal is a common wear and tear item and is likely not related to a piston soak... nobody else has noted any oil leaks after the treatment, so it's highly unlikely the two are related... either way , bring your car to a shop that knows what they're doing - a rear seal is not trivial but shouldn't cost more than $7-800. Any changes in your oil consumption? What was the consumption before the treatment? Is it possible the consumption was due to the rear seal? The 2.0T VW/Audi engine is notorious for falling rear seals, which can result is oil pouring out of the back on the motor

    • @eric6218
      @eric6218 Před 9 dny

      @@ETMotorsports Thank you for your quick response. I appreciate it. The car oil consumption was 1 liter each 300 miles. Now it's 2.5 liters first 400 miles. I can see the oil on the ground after parked it, which I never see it before. I parked the car in the garage. Now I park in on the driveway. The garage ground is dry. So I am sure it's a new issue though it's hard to believe it. Canadian Tire told me the labor is 3000 including tax since they need to remove the engine from the car and possibility remove transmission with it. It's a V6 engine in the Acura MDX. Maybe it's tight in space. The leaking is in the driver side close to the middle. I can smell the oil burning when I drive. I may ask dealer the cost. I only run the car about 30 minutes with B12 after soaking and replaced oil and filter and run one day, and then replaced oil and filter again July 8. I though I've tried my best to prevent it from happening if it's caused by the chemical. I might replace the oil right away before fire it up but I want the chemical to circle to help to release the pistons.

      Will do. I completed the work last week. It was not bad at all. The only thing to be aware of is there is a tool that would be very useful for turning the crank. The harmonic balancer is held on by 6 or 8 triple square bolts and there is not a big center bolt like I’m used to on BMWs. I was able to get around this by very carefully using my triple square on one of the balancer bolts, but I did feel one tighten one time so I don’t recommend that method. I also used the bolt on the alternator but you can’t use only that one because the belt slips. I took some photos of the pistons with my endoscopic camera before and after as well and you can tell a difference. After was post 30m drive right before I changed the plugs and drained the oil. I’ll let you all know how it goes. I’m currently running the Rotella T like he recommended because I already had some on hand by chance. I’ll change in about 1000k miles.

    There is no way to get b-12 in Europe tryed on ebay twice none shiped because its hazard item idk what to try i ordered some toulene since this is 50% of b-12 and white spirit thinking of doing my own mix but im scared i will damage something i need help... also can you do piston soak with liquid moly pro engine flush or you only have to put it in oil or can you do an actual soak with it im hopeless please answer!

      I would start with LiquiMoly Engine Flush Pro Line and see if it works...it's perfectly fine to use for the soak but may not be as effective as B12

    Hi, i can t get b12 in my country. Arbo engine flush can work? Or liqui molly engine flush? Or any orher valve cleaner? I ve tried with a valve clenaer spray but still without any result. It s a Q5 211cv.

    • @ETMotorsports
      @ETMotorsports Před 13 dny

      @alema100 a spray won't work - you need something to sit on the pistons overnight... try liquimoly engine flush (pro line if you can get access to it)... some folks have been successful...

    It’s this type of people who give German cars bad names. They DIY stuff and then sell it to someone who will blame it on “manufacturer”. Americans and Canadians shouldn’t be allowed to own German cars.

    I was adding 1 quart every 900 miles ,took it to the dealer since it is still under warranty. The dealer looked at it and said that they can’t find any issue , asked me to bring it back when the oil level is low again , I’m pretty sure the car is burning excessive oil and I don’t know why the dealer couldn’t find the issue

    • @ETMotorsports
      @ETMotorsports Před 14 dny

      @sanjivkumar4783 because 1qt/900 miles is within spec 🤣 also you can't really "find" this issue - there's no testing you can do... the dealer will basically top the oil up and record the mileage when you lose 1qt... if it's within spec they won't do anything... if it's lower and under warranty they should rebuild your motor

    I'm in the middle of doing my wife's car right now. I'm on my last two cylinders. One soak in and it won't turn past top dead center. Even after blowing tons of chunks out. Thinking the second soak will help. One thing I wish I would have done is made sure to only blow cylinders out while the valves were closed. It's possible I could blow something into the intake.

    • @ETMotorsports
      @ETMotorsports Před 18 dny

      @TheJimmyThreeSticks I wouldn't worry about the intake too much...as you saw most of this is in dust form... even if it goes through it'll just burn out...

    Hey, had an idea to share with you on soaking pistons in the V config for the future. I was think how to get the whole piston soaked, and I thought, well, why not use an old compression gauge hose, or leak down hose. Anyway, just thought I would share that thought. Catch ya later, and thanks again for the vids, Subbed.

    • @ETMotorsports
      @ETMotorsports Před 18 dny

      @MichaelCarreras good idea... I thought of that and actually tried it too but you can't soak all at the pistons at the same time and when you put pressure in, the piston actually moves down... the best thing so far is to soak at TDC two at a time... that way you clean the piston and the top of the chamber

    • @MichaelCarreras
      @MichaelCarreras Před 18 dny

      @@ETMotorsports Right, but I wasn't thinking of applying any pressure, just using a hose to raise the available height. So if we took a couple of old compression gauge hoses and cut the tops off, kind of thing. That would allow us to fill the cylinder up until the first open valve, and if we actually set the cylinders so that the valves were in the compression stroke(closed position) we could theoretically easily cover the entire top of the piston with less b-12. Any hoot, it was just a thought. Love what you are doing !! Thanks for the reply!!

    Thanks! Just bought an audi a4 quattro, and as a mechanic and an enthusiast, you just confirmed what I suspected was possible. I haven't driven it yet because I got it cheap with 100k on it, and it needs a clutch, so I figured I would go ahead and do the timing chain to eliminate it as the owner told me he had never had it done, and he said never had the piston recall done. This thing is going to get a soak just out of principal while I do the chains since I am in no rush anyway. Thanks again.
