Ideally you'd play this with slaps and pops but Hydra sadly doesn't have those. I did utilize the neck and bridge pickup along with the single coil analog eq setting to simulate that mid position single coil tone. Not as cool sounding as the real thing with proper technique but a cool idea.

      @jonl.b7168 yeah tbh I have to fiddle with it a lot to get it to work correctly. I have to adjust the timing of the first note and 2nd note separately until I get what I want. I always record the output once I have it how I want because sometimes it will glitch and not play the slide. So, recording the output aliviates that if you can get at least 2 take of it sounding how you want. I always dread slides when I come back to writing guitar parts haha

      @NathanDarkson984 yes, I can absolutely share it. Normally I don't because people who don't use reaper won't be able to use it and I'm not sure if everyone's settings are the same as mine. If it works, great! If it doesn't work, my brain is too smooth to help anyone figure out why it doesn't haha. Essentially all I did was open the manual, my midi map and kontakt. I'd press a note on my midi chart that the manual said should be an articulation and looked at the keyboard in kontakt to see if it was showing the correct key being pressed. If it was correct, I just labeled that note. If it's not correct, it's probably up or down an octave. If you're not familiar with how to make a custom midi chart, I know there's tons of reaper tutorials that could probably explain it much quicker and with visual aid haha. I'd upload my midi chart now but I won't have access to my pc for a bit unfortunately

    Question about humanizing: Do you shift midi blocks backwards a little bit? In real life good guitarists play with little little late string attack. It make riff grove, because guitars that hurry or perfectly in time - they stands out in front and don't let drums do it groovie work. It's not a question about increase or decrease volume of any instrument. Playing metal is about playing with micro slingshot feeling. In Rap there's opposite situation. Drums must play with little hurry. Don't take it as any kinda hate comment. I just tell what I know. Thank's for your videos.

    • @HollowHeart-Studio
      @HollowHeart-Studio Před 4 měsíci

      With shreddage, no. The way it's performed does match up with real guitarists where the peak of the wav hits a little after the beat. So I just leave it as is. With real guitar, I normally pull back to get the peak directly on the bar. I humanize the bass performance so it's sometimes a little late or early. For drums, I normally just play them on my eKit and quantize 90-95%. When I program drums for these videos, I don't waste the time making them sound more realistic. I only care about the bass and drums sounding more human in actual tracks I'm releasing. For shreddage leads, I do sometimes edit the midi to start a little early or release a little early. That way I can get a little more out of it. With my music, my rhythm playing and editing has always been very robotic.

    • @user-gd4bd5ir7u
      @user-gd4bd5ir7u Před 4 měsíci

      @@HollowHeart-StudioI'll try to explain with real guitar. It might be obvious... On waveform. You need put very-very- very low begining of the your peak. That's tiny - is your pick atack. Pick atack must lay in beat - not peak. When you put peak in beat - you move your guitar after the click. Play simple linear riff with fifths intervals and 8 notes groupings. Then compare your 'piCk' atack on beat with 'peAk' on beat... Then >pick< atack before the beat. I hope you'll chose to play as third.

    • @HollowHeart-Studio
      @HollowHeart-Studio Před 4 měsíci

      @user-gd4bd5ir7u I get what you're saying. That's how shreddage works by default, and I just let it be. With live guitar, I personally like the pick attack coming before the beat. You mentioned other styles of music having the timing be a bit ahead or behind. I personally don't have a preference or do anything one specific way. It's just to taste, honestly. There's not exactly a right or wrong way if you know what you're doing and it's intentional. I'm not sure if you're asking me my preference or telling me I need to do things differently haha. If you're asking me if I do anything to the midi to humanize timing, the answer is that I do very little to adjust the timing. When I edit real guitars, they sound like shreddage does by default. So, I only make minor adjustments to timing based on personal preference. I'm more concerned with velocities :)

    Okay dude!!... You literally did the BEST thing ever, and i haven't seen ONE instrucional video do this... You not only showed your guitar preset, but you went over EVERY knob and switch and clicked it yo show its exact number spot... Ive watched soany videos similar to yours, but they just assume everyone knows what they are doing, or can just mimic whats on screen without needing the exact number each knob is set to. THANK YOU for being the only one to do this!!

    Huh, you prefer it over Hydra? Would have thought a metal-man prefer the 8-string

    • @HollowHeart-Studio
      @HollowHeart-Studio Před 4 měsíci

      Yeah 8 strings tend to be a bit muddy in my opinion haha. I like low tuned progressive stuff but I'm not the biggest on super heavy content. I'm mainly a singer, so making stuff that's just low and sludgey all the time doesn't work out for me. I do still like to have some absolutely slamming riffs though. Hydra is so much better for leads just because it has more samples and articulations but I prefer the Jupiter tone.

    This is a great instructional video - I'm just curious, how come you only show five libraries in Kontakt - when you probably have way more? Is there some way of sort the libraries that I don't know of?

    • @HollowHeart-Studio
      @HollowHeart-Studio Před 4 měsíci

      Thank you! Actually, what you see in here is all I had for kontakt libraries. I have since removed charisma and abyss. I picked up 2 new bass libraries and a drum library. I don't kno that you can sort them but you can hide them. I hide one of my drum libraries because I rarely use it but don't want to delete it.

    Awesome riff, I was wondering if there were any quality Guitar VSTs out there! Is this easy to use with reaper where I can just drop a guitar pro file and it will accurately play articulations from gp? Appreciate the reply in advance thanks!

    • @ChristianSandviknes
      @ChristianSandviknes Před 4 měsíci

      It has it's own articulations from keyswitches, so it won't translate from guitar pro; you need to edit it yourself. On the plus side I found this one quite easy to work with, so I can still recommend it. (It's "Shreddage 3 - Hydra", btw - that's the name of the VSTi)

      I bought it on sale quite some time ago. I think the $150 price tag isn't too bad for what you get. Unfortunately, full virtual instruments are going to be around 100-200 normally. Not nearly as bad as what I paid for my real instruments, haha.

      @anormalperson2679 haha understandable. I worked with mostly free and super cheap gear for a while actually. I'd say 6 of 10 years into production was all free or under $50 plugins. When I finally got a good job, I decided to upgrade quite a bit. I highly reccomend shreddafe. Cheaper than buying an 8 string or paying someone to write multiple songs for you at a high quality. @anormalperson2679 I always use a stock DAW pitch shifter to automate my pitch changes. I highly reccomend the website zzounds for any music gear that you can't afford up front. I bought my mic from them years ago when I didn't have hundreds at once, but I had like 50 a month. For plugins, a lot of times there are really good free alternatives to mix. I invested all of my funds into virtual and real instruments to start with :) then worry about mixing down the road haha.

The past year I've been trying to learn how to actually mix music so maybe at some point I can walk through it. I'm definitely not qualified to explain the reason behind anything I do or how to get good sounds. I honestly don't know what I'm doing. • @HollowHeart-Studio
      @HollowHeart-Studio Před 4 měsíci

      @DavidXNewton lmao. Actually, yeah when I've talked to some pros about why they do something they will say things like "I know it's redundant but it sounds good to me" or "it just give it this vibe, ya know?" I have a long list but all of my eq and compression is stock reaper plugins. I think the main things that stand out are getgood drums just sounding great out of the box and only needing a little EQ. I hit those with jst clip. Guitar uses some Neural DSP amps, stock eq, stero widner and soothe. Soothe is really a big deal for me. Bass is just using the built in amp sim that submission audio midi bass has. It sounds like the tone I'd make anyways and is just less plugins so I'll take it haha. Side chain compression with the kick. I use a really old version of ozone for mastering that I got probably 8-10 years ago. For the master limiting, I use Flatline and that plugin is God tier. I do a few specific things that give me my sounds of course but I don't have a massive suite of plugins or the most expensive ones
