Sounds like you should create your own company & build it right. If you're having these issues, others are too & seems like no one is filling that need. That CBI would design an add-on part that could damage the drive shaft on a $70k vehicle is nuts.
Are all your tire set load range E? You talk about weight saving but especially when aired down I am afraid to puncture a sidewall without the tougher heavier tire.
so glad theirs mute
Is 35s the size of the rims or wheels can someone clarify please. Also can you do it on stock suspension
No, aluminum cannot rust, but it corrode! 😉
It fall in flakes!
Cheaper and easier to repair steel! If you want aluminum stiffer, you can also do the same processes to steel! 😉
Also, your car is not made out of aluminum! Steel will rust in contact of aluminum and aluminum will corode... 😉 You DON'T want aluminum wheels, let say! 😉
For the same strengh, aluminum will be thicker and heavier! 😉
And yes, aluminum is pretty soft compared to steel, at the "same temper"! Softer bring deformation! It won't skid as much, it'll try to grab it, instead, elongate has much as it can before perforing! Hammer test them, steel : the whole piece will warp, aluminum : it'll dent!
The GX460 does NOT require premium gas! It "recommends" it based on the fact that the GX weighs more than the first gen Tundra that they originally designed the 4.6 for. That's it. Most GX owners do NOT use premium. I don't. You cannot tell ANY difference when you drive it either.
I have the jetboil and love it. The benefit out of the gas output is that when I already have the stove out and setup I can connect my Flash to share gas from my 5 lb Ignik rather than use a canister.
What offset do you typically run. I remember you saying -30 in one of the videos but I haven’t seen much in the way of -30 on method.
What is your wheel offset on the wife’s 4runner
you lost me at 7600lbs. way over gvwr. my old chevy 1ton didn’t weigh that much and it was on 40s.
Finally someone that shows the rattle effect of these carriers....you confirm my fears with the Nguyen Works carrior - thank you for saving my wallet! Not a lot of good options for my third gen, back to the drawing board.
Did you have to move or add a piece to relocate the tow hitch? Or remove the recovery hook on the drivers side?
Every suspension mod you can make to a 4Runner you can make on a GX. The only challenge with the GX is ground clearance. The approach and departure angles are a lot worse on the GX compared to the 4Runner, but they are easily mitigated with some trimming. Removing the running boards and installing sliders handles the other ground clearance problems. I have zero regrets about going with a GX460 over a 5th gen 4Runner.
Best reason ever!
The most to the point video I've seen so far. Straight to the point and genuine. Hella informative. Subbed. So much valuable info here
I appreciate your solid honesty! Thank you:.
nice budget build
$200 trash bag and the main selling point is the ability to remove it from spare tire without unbuckling it? You’re kidding me right?
You ever tried the Yank Em ropes?
Can’t wait to see the trails and this beauty killing it!
when you are measuring the trans temp, do you reference the oil pan temp or the temp at the torque converter? In my GX, the Torque converter can see temps 15-20 degrees hotter than the pan temp
Both. But referring to pan
So what’s is the conclusion with the CV axles at this point? 8 months have gone by and we’re curious. Thanks for upload!
Gave up on RCV. Running CVJ for most trips and RCV only for hard rock crawling
Why wouldn’t you upgrade your radiator or change out your hood to a white or tan color? How do you spend so much money on something and then not properly do it??
Excellent
I’m looking at the “Tacoma HC Tube Bumper w/ Tire Swingout” with tree savers since I need a solution for my 295 spare. Looking for a tube bumper to match my tube front and this out gear looks to be it, but I’m nervous the tire will bounce. Any thought on this? Would I have to dab a side weld too?
I am getting an aluminum Victory 4x4 front bumper (without grill hoops for now) since it’s only 47 pounds and an Outgear Solutuons High Clearance Sandstorm tube bumper to keep my weight down.
I just found your channel by accident. I have been wanting to get a shower rigged up as the one I have is pathetic. When I elk hunt I am usually out two weeks and really need to clean up. If I get an elk, then I definitely need to clean up. Great job describing the build step by step. I hope to have your design this fall for my elk hunt. Thanks a lot. PS - I haven't seen any of your other videos yet but still subscribed.
You could be lucky you did not damage your vehicles when you tested the ropes with the tree!
How much for this car as I see it here ?
Hello dear
The Outgear Solutions bumper is the only rear bumper I’ve found that I’ve actually liked. I wanted a tube rear with single swing (for same large table option) with the 1/4 panel tree savers and I wanted a hitch which a lot of tube rears don’t have or are poorly integrated. I will definitely have to remember and save this video because I will be doing the extra cross bars regardless of the hammering. I will likely be getting a custom front bumper made from Drew’s Fab to keep that tube style for the bumpers. I’m still on the fence for under armor skid plates. But I will be getting the WC Dirt King 3.5 long travel front and rear and that’s why I’m going tube for lighter weight just a tire & single gas and utilize the roof rack for other stuff. Great video and great ideas! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
New sub like and bell , as far as ideas go , I am wanting to build a used tacoma rig for grand sons first vehicle, we have them in scouts but I am with thinking with some encouragement on both of them it can become a more adventurous LIFESTYLE .. budget used in the right places for a effective rig
Looks great bud , What advice can you give to those of us who want 37s and are thinking of installing body lift ? Should we do it or try to cut more?
If I could do it again from scratch. I’d use a 1” body lift. I just didn’t want to rebuild my bumpers and rails
@@SandyCats thanks 🙌🏼
How about using an adjustable regulator with your partner stove to help adjust the flame?
Do you still get good Air Conditioner efficiency with the transmission coolers all mounted in front of the Air Conditioning Condenser? Any noticeable difference?
Zero difference…
Just a thought to potentially get over the issue of removing / inserting the inner bin liner… could you change the type of bin liner you use? The one in the video looks like a large refuge sack style, which I understand will fill to its full shape once removed. If you used a narrower bin liner (e.g. pedal style liner) which is a narrower shape, would this stop it from expanding as much once removed? Just a thought
Im not here to argue or debate but I will say I own a set of full aluminum skids on my GX470 made by RCI, I have beat the living s&%t out of my skids the past 2 years hitting a lot more then fire roads, I have 3 and 2 wheeled my setup many times sitting in nothing but these skids, yes they have slightly deformed in some areas but overall they have taken the beating, no welds have ever cracked and my engine and trany temps have always statyed normal, the only issues I ever had was my diff drop bolts hit the front skid plate so I drilled 3" relief holes and then covered them with 1/4" aluminum plate thats riveted on, my y-pipe on the drivers side was also hitting the trany skid plate where the edge is bent and I had to trim it slightly, other then that they have held up, maybe I got the unicorn batch of aluminum skids made on a wedneaday but I can not complain, they have held up great for me.
Copper transmission coolers transfer heat up to 70% more efficiently than aluminum transmission coolers. That might explain why you needed to use more than one, taking up so much space. Excellent video thanks for sharing your insights!
This is my 3rd video of yours and I gotta say the way you explain things makes a 35 minute a joy from start to finish. You’re killing it man so much valuable knowledge and experience in every vid, really great work I’m a big fan. Also, I take it you are mostly out west US but I’m in Wisconsin and I will tell you at night that upper light bar is amazing in the deep woods of the north its like a friggin jungle😂. Keep up the great work how lucky your kids are to have such a cool mom and dad👍
Very cool build. Thank you
wish i would have seen your video sooner, i fabricated my own bumper and right now I am failing the tire punch test. I get significant shake. What would be the best way to reinforce that area to reduce shake? I think I got that much shake cause I wanted the tire to slant into the gate instead of sit straight.
Honestly… I build two bumpers before this one and trashed both to start from scratch (6 months of trying)….
@@SandyCats Im happy with the bumper itself, I welded 2 brackets on the oem crash bar cross member so its bolt on and I can remove to make more modifications if I need to. Right now its just the swing arm that I am not happy with. After I put the tire, I have to do a slight lift for it to go up and over and lock. Im probably going to give another design a shot and spend a bit more on a better latch system.
@@Hateraz101 for me.. a I had same problem…. Started adding gussets and metal… and at some point it became too much metal and was smarter to just rebuild.
@@SandyCats i was able to greatly reduce shake by adding a oversized bolt with welded on grab fly, i will probably find a star knob on the same size so it looks better, welded a bracket on the end of the swing. I get almost no shake. The hard part is lining it up when closing.
How you get rid of the kdss light after ripping the system out? Or you kept the control unit plugged in?
Yup. Lights still on…
@@SandyCats Thanks for letting me know, I plan to do the same if/when it fails. I do dig the system for what it is and works for my needs.
where u get that rear bumper
I offroad a few miles just getting to/from my home. But the main reason I went to steel bumpers on my 4runner is because I go into town. Town has people. People are idiots. That drive. I'm keeping my spare tire underneath. It's too heavy now that I'm too old to lift it up there.
The weight of the spare tire doesn't count.
Boss how did you fabricate the table? I want that too
Outgear solutions did it for me
What in the flow restriction if this. Talk about low output pressure. At what point are you causing more harm than good by overloading the pump and lowering flow?
Also are the tires 33 or 35s?
35s
Great builds. How do you like the Cooper STT Maxx tires? How loud are they on road and do they do well in wet, snow and ice? Thanks.
I love them. They will wear 2X faster than others but outperform others in basically every environment I’ve been in. Great in snow and wet. Can’t really comment on loudness just because I feel every similar tire is similar sound. You’ll hear it though…
Thank you. Great perspective.
Jetboil must be paying you a lot of money to get rid of a $500 stove, because you can't manage the flame, to buy another $500 stove that has to be put together and takes 6 turns to turn off. Oh and the pans suck. I will take a used coleman or maybe a cheap rocket stove any day and spend the extra $450 on, i don't know, a bunch of other stuff.
