Is this RV upgrade worth it???
When buying a used RV, you may come across some upgrades or modifications that were done by the previous owner. Sometimes, these can be great, and sometimes not. Here we’re looking at an inverter, lithium, and solar upgrade. An upgrade that the client thought was necessary, but quickly learned it wasn’t necessary when it failed. Not only did they not NEED this setup, it became a huge headache when it failed. The entire electrical system had been modified, very poorly at that. When it came time for him to self diagnose, he had no idea what to look for as the original manual had none of this custom setup. After I came out to diagnose the issue I determined the inverter was bad, likely due to some of the poor connections I found and a previous thermal event. Since this was front and center of his electrical system, his RV was a paper weight at this point. We decided he wanted to go back to “Stock” which was no issue. While removing this system I found multiple issues ranging from improper wire size, loose or poor connections, and many other issues which posed a fire risk.
While this systems can be great, especially if you have use for them. They can also be just as much of a headache if you have no use for it, or it was improperly installed. This is another great example of why a 3rd party inspection is absolutely vital when buying new or used RVs.

RV bearing repack, a complete tutorial.
zhlédnutí 1,9KPřed 14 dny
To my TikTok followers, I apologize this video took a year to make, but better late than never right😊. Bearing repacks are probably one of the most important maintenance items. You can complete on your RV. Just like your seals, lack of bearing maintenance can lead to catastrophic failure. Being that I work on the service side of things, I understand all these different services can add up and s...
Is RV paint protection worth the money???

When you buy an rv from a dealer, they’re always going to try and upsell you on some things. Some of them I’m actually fond of. I frequently talk about slide toppers, and vent covers, which are some of the things they will try and sell you on. Slide toppers and vent covers I definitely stand behind, paint protection, not so much. Paint protection is sold under a lot of different names, such as ...
The RVlock keyless entry, is it worth the hype??
zhlédnutí 1,7KPřed 28 dny
The topic of RV security has been a hot one for a while. It’s pretty common knowledge that the door locks from factory, aren’t exactly the greatest. They are flimsy and easy to defeat. Most modern RVs are also master keyed, meaning people (like me, a tech) have master keys to open your RV. While I personally find this helpful as a tech, I’d have to agree that I wouldn’t want MY unit keyed as so...

This is a systematic approach to diagnosing a Dometic water heater. I have another video that runs through a quick diagnoses if you’re interested in that instead. Most issues stem from safety features, which are great t...

I'm having an issue with mine. I have my control panel set to 110, but the output goes way beyond that 115-127. It'll shut off when I turn the cold side on, but then I'd have to turn the cold side off when it gets too cold. I constantly have to repeat that daily

What a great video! I took away a few things from it. I was shocked to see that there is VERY LITTLE grease between the outer and inner bearing. That bearing driver is a great tool. I have one. Also as far as the unopened wheel bearing packer goes, my protip is to put it in a vise to squeeze it gently if needed. I usually use the CPR position on the floor to do them. Shouldn't one flush the "quick lube" fitting orifice before reinstalling the bearings? There might be blue grease or worse yet, dirty grease. Slip joint pliers can remove the grease cap by rocking gently too. Again! Thanks you for a great video from Nick's continuing RV education :-) Happy that the lucas grease is approved by Dexter. Rock on!

You are incorrect in your instructions, at least you didnt fully explain how to use the endless water heater. You set the temp controller to the hottest setting you want for the hottest demand. Washing dishes probably require hotter water than washing hands or taking a shower. If it’s set to 124 (in this video) to be the desired temp to wash dishes (no cold water would be added), taking a shower may require a (SLIGHT) crack of the cold water to get the desired temp….. adding cold water downstream of the heater (aka at the tap) would have ZERO effect on how hard the heater works! It’s only gonna work to get to 124 in this example. Now if people keep turning it up because they are adding cold water to reach the desired PRESSURE, thats a different topic. There is a learning curve to how tankless works but not thru misinformation.

I would like to throw this in there.. I was using my tank flush feature on my 05 montana. I messed up and didn't get my tank valve open. and instead of coming out the roof like you mention at 4:30 it instead EXPLODED my grey tank (I had the black and grey tanks both open, but didn't have the valve at the hose connection open). Then I closed my grey tank, and immediately, the black tank exploded too! So I had to patch 2 tanks with steel mesh, a soldering iron, and abs glue made into a paste with abs shavings! Patch is holding strong 2 months later!

Using a bearing packer to “push the old grease out and new grease in” defeats the purpose of doing bearing maintenance in the first place. If I go to the trouble to pull my hubs, I’m going to clean the bearings, hubs, and races so I can inspect them. Packing bearings without cleaning and inspection just doesn’t make sense…..but I really don’t think you meant it that way…😊

Good video, shows all the parts, process, and the why's, not just the how's. I would however suggest a 'no special tools' survivalist version like I was taught when I when I was a young poor teen in the 60s with just a claw hammer, screw driver, pliers, and a grease gun that may be the only tools available. Using the hammer and screwdriver to tap out the inner race and seal from the outside and vice versa from the inside, greasing in the palm of your hand, and tapping the race and seals lightly back in. With bonus points if its on the side of the road with old rusty dusty neglected drum and bearings that need to be reused. Nowadays I pay for expert annual inspections of the bearings, brakes and wires, because I can afford it and hate the mess. But many rv'rs find themselves in a predicament in the middle of nowhere with what they have on hand. And this may get you out of the woods.
