Burnley vs Orient May 1987
zhlédnutí 25KPřed 14 lety
Burnley went into their final game of the 1986/87 season knowing only a win could save them from relegation to the Vauxhall conference and even that might not be enough. Relegation could and probably would have seen the Clarets disappear from existence due to the financial state of the club.

Be right in thinking from 1959-65 the English league had 7 different football clubs as champions in a row. 1959 Wolves 1960 Burnley 1961 Spurs 1962 Ipswich 1963 Everton 1964 Liverpool 1965 Man Utd
Jimmy Mac was a legend Bob the Lord wasn’t
R.I.P Ian Britten. We thankyou for your goal against Leyton Orient 86/87 that kept us in the football League. Up the Clarets 🏐🥅

John bond was my great great uncle.
Super Johhny Francis!
I used to watch this vhs every day as kid the 91 season
Remember this game so well I was 14 and in the Warwick Road end. We got in exactly 2pm an hour before KO and the Burnley fans had already filled the scratching penn (Now East Stand) & The Waterworks end to capacity as well as seated fans above the Paddock closest seat to the Waterworks (Not sure what stand number) we were shit and this was not long before Knighton took over but there was only about 1500 Carlisle fans and the rest Burnley. Never seen before or since a bigger away support at Brunton Park. Remember Burnley fans spilling into the far side of the Paddock and there being trouble. And everyone in the Warwick singing "You'll never take the Warwick" think the gate was around 9700. That a hell of a lot of Burnley fans. Great memories despite our awefull side we got a point against the soon to be Champions. And we're still playing in the forth tier. Look where Burnley are & a lot of other teams from around this time like Wigan , Swansea ,Cardiff ,Hull City ,Brighton & Fulham for example were regular visitors at Brunton Park. All and more have gone on to play Premier League Football since 92. And despite some good years after coming out the Conference and then successive promotions. A league One 3rd place finish and then subsequent play off loss to Leeds is the highest ever position ivr seen my whole life as a Carlise supporter. And now look where we are as of this comment 23rd in League Two struggling and right back to those dark days of the late 80s and early 90's. Gutting.
Every time I watch a John Bond interview he’s having a pop at Malcolm Allison
Destroyed BFC so much it took years and years to recover and he knew it when we went to shrewsbury in a cup game (which we won 2-1) he was their manager but dressed up as a steward at the back of their stand tells you everything
wHAT DID IT TELL YOU.
Hi goody. Andy Marriott's last game was it ? Great late winner , always love seeing that guy behind goal with the crutches, makes me laugh. It's a miracle 🤣 Like it cured him.
It says in the description that this was a series. Is there anywhere I can find the rest of it?
It was a series mate, it was on football focus on a Saturday afternoon around 1991, it featured liverpoo, Everton, Man Utd, Derby, Leeds, arsenal, Ipswich, spurs, my club Manchester City , and I think Forest. I’m sure they’ll all be on here.
@@waynemurray5264 sounds interesting, will have to give the rest of it a watch
Steve Taylor went on to become a movie star. Starring with Danny dyer in hit movies like the business.
Super Johnny Francis
My first of many trips to Turf Moor. I was a young lad back then and my Dad took me in the car after school. PNE fan
"I was a young lad back then and my Dad took me in the car after school." *Didn't he like you?*

I think the English should invite Scottish and Welsh sides into the Football League Trophy. This is the old Football League Trophy, under the sponsors name. The Scottish already have English, Welsh, Ulster and Irish sides in their Scottish Challenge Cup. It would be great fun to have all Scottish Premier sides who have not qualified for Europe, plus a selection of Welsh Premier sides into the trophy. This would add cross border banter to the trophy. The Scottish sides could be in the Northern section, and Welsh sides in the South. Imagine games like Hearts V Sunderland, or Aberdeen v Blackpool, or Hibernian V Carlisle United. It would be fun. I do not support merging the Great Britain Leagues, but I do support cross border cups on top of European and domestic soccer. If the English really want to help Celtic soccer, give us cross border cups on top of domestic and European soccer. Do not steal our biggest sides. Thanks for reading. Diolch. Merci. Hope you enjoyed reading my post. Up with Scottish soccer. Good video. Aberdeen play Burnley in the Europa League a few years ago. -
The Mighty Mighty Burnley at Turfmoor Class
What great memories UTC
Chelsea have had over the years huge support home and away , 82k record crowd I'm Brighton fan respect to them
Commentator makes a great point. In the eighties umpteen players moved around the north west town clubs having a season or two at each. At Bolton I remember being gutted when George Oghani went to Burnley , but we got John Thomas from Preston to replace him. A lot of the club's were in the old 3rd and 4th divisions at the time, great days to be a fan, very little travelling and good crowds, and the game simply wasn't about money and celebrity players and managers. When neil Warnock brought Scarborough into the league in 87, he said ," If you'd have told me we'd be lining up against wolves , Burnley and Bolton next season, I'd have thought you were off your rocker." All 3 of those clubs have had tome in the prem since, European football, etc, but may have lost something of their essence as a result. Much preferred it back then, familiar players, proper grounds, and real football. We play in a box in horwich and might not even start the season at the time of writing. Great videos for a bit of misty eyed nostalgia. Most teams would've wanted Big Sam at centre half too...absolute monster.
Great post. From a Burnley fan.
@@user-sw2lv3zp6o Since that last post, you will have seen we are now sorted and hopefully " early days" championship bound. Would expect you to go back up, but with a bit of luck can renew on pitch acquanencies soon. Pity they dont do the " Lancashire Manx" trophy these days. Great little pre season do for the clubs round here. Good luck Clarets.
@@johnathanryan2117 Good luck to Bolton, too. I think you'll get back up soon. Did you know that this is the first season since 1961/62, I think, that Burnley, Blackburn, Blackpool and PNE have all been in the same divsion. Back then, of course, it was the top division. So many derbies this season. The above, plus Wigan and Huddersfield, although they're from the other side of the Pennines. Regards
Yes indeed, all the more reason for us to get back into that mix, thats tge sort of company we " belong" in, massive history of fantastic games against those clubs you mention going back over 140 years in some cases. Was a season not so long since when with the exception of PNE, we were all in prem. Cant beat local football and big crowds, big occasion games. A game against another traditional rival always has a nicer feel to it. Good stuff.
@@johnathanryan2117 I'll look out for your results. I always reckoned that the best fans of the area were our two clubs.
You now Trevor Meredith the person who scored the winning goal in the league I am his great nephew

I've just been reading about Scarborough. I hadn't noticed you'd been wound up in 2007. Sorry about that. There are now two Scarborough clubs, Athletic and Town. Which one do you support?
