Surprised at the performance of this standard pressure load in a 1.87" barrel. Very impressive.
Post Velocities!
Literally was looking for this exact test earlier, and no one had it. My man.
.380 +P make sure feeds ok one handed compromised positions. Id run Hydrashok Deep or if worried about animal defense winchest fmj flat tip for straight penetration. 357 mid tier recoil Golden Saber or Critical Defense might be best for 2" lightweight.
Watching in case I get to T&E new SDR.... check Critical Duty Battle today
Bro was terrified to shoot those loads lol
I absolutely love your tests, one of the few channels that use real ballistic gel..Im really considering switching to Golden Sabers too now
Just bought a little Glock 43x mos 5th generation. I'm decent with a pistol and this little guy is very accurate. My experience with Glock is hit and miss with their accuracy but this one at 25 yards is putting them right where they need to be. Very impressed with it.
Thanks! Interesting video. Have you tested the underwood 38 special 150gr hardcast wadcutters through your k6s ? I would love to hear your input on the felt recoil with those loads through the kimber. Cheers!
Nice little, no-BS video. I like it!👍
Underwood isn't usually as powerful as Buffalo Bore in rimmed cartridges, but usually greater than Buffalo Bore in semi-auto cartridges. I would recommend Underwood for medium-hot loads in the snub. Nice choice.
Hey Dave, no lack of respect here considering your health realities. Thanks for the simple explanation. You do a great job on your channel and I enjoy your candor and pace. Yeah I'd stay away from max magnum loads in that K6S. Issue with lightweight revolvers is the violent recoil is enough to act like an inertia bullet-puller and can start to remove bullets from case mouths if the crimp isn't everything it needs to be. That will hang up cylinders from protrusions. You may or may not have had that issue with the Buffalo Bore 180gr. The heavier bullets would tend to do this more than light bullets.
Specifically was it the lcr 327 that you traded??
No, it was the LCP Max in .380.
@exothermal.sprocket Cool..thanks!
Winchester has an old school 357 load using a 110gr SJHP bullet (product # Q4204). I haven't seen it around lately though. I don't know if it is discontinued or simply on hiatus. ETA: Target Sports USA has some in stock right now. Not much though. A bit over a dollar a round.
My little sister carries a G42 in the summer. Her splits are significantly quicker than with my G43. It also is easier to conceal in the typical female summer wardrobe. I think she had HS Deep in it last I asked. I'm intested in seeing how those mild Fiocchi 148 do in gel at 1000+ fps after seeing how well they did at std press .38 Spl snubbie speeds. I believe they are the same bullet.
Tell her about the Bodyguard 2.0
@vlogfriendsutopia I'm sure it's on her radar already. She has reached the point she carries her G48 more than the G42, but at the height of summer it's still primarily G42 with flush plate.
Thanks, Dave. .357 Magnum is one caliber I still watch and carry occasionally. Keep up the good work.
I think the cerakote stands up better than the gas nitriding. GX4 is in the running for my next pistol. The Ruger Max9 isn't bad either.
Is there a SAMMI specification for 380+P?
You can save money with Winchester WB or the plain jane Defense in the Black box, they average 1075 from a 3 inch and provide equal performance through cloth and gel. It comes in 50 round boxes also for barely more than a 20 round box of marketing hype wonder ammo.
👍👍Thanks Dave, I look forward to future 38/357 testing.
Good content as always DDR.
Just my opinion from a really brief view on my computer monitor but with 40 years of centerfire shooting experience those were adequate strikes. A round that doesn't go off doesn't have the cartridge pushing back against the inertia of the firing pin so regular rounds that did fire would have about 10 thousandths deeper strike than one that didn't go off.
Awesome. Appreciate your dedication to the short-barrell genre. Do you know if the new .380 Bodyguard 2.0 is +P safe??
None of the pistols are .380 +P rated. That is not a SAAMI or CIP category for .380 Auto. It just means overpressure. Some manufacturers +P really are just borderline SAAMI or CIP max average pressure and some may be as much as 20% over. If you want to go that route I would seek guidance from the ammo manufacturer.
I have fired the Underwood 90grn +p ext penatrators and 68grn.+p ext defenders from the 2.0 bodyguard ( yes it is a great little gun; buy one) It is a locked breach pistol. Many (most) early 380s were blow back and I can see that being the caution. Although I fired lots of the cast Buffalo bore 100grn.+p out of my Beretta 84 which was blowback but relatively large for a 380.
Long case and warmer round so sticky extraction. The ejection port is IFFY for longer than standard cases. I would wager you could trim 10 grains off a velocitor and it would extract and eject.
do we know if the new bodyguard 2.0 are +P rated? any language in the owners manual re: +P ?? I have a G42, but really want that new bodyguard 2.0
I want to see a test of the gun that made that hole in the tree above the plywood 😅
Red Crested Pecker Whacker.
The Hornady doesn't feed well in my sig 226 and the gun has never failed to feed any other rounds
That was loaded to full 1935 year spec, not the watered down 35,000 psi of today.
Thank you for bringing us these tests.
Disappointing in a premium round giving less performance than Winchester WB 115 hp.
You can seal your own primers with thread locker. That said the Winchester WB 115 HP is 1075fps from a 3 inch barrel (Winchester Defense Black box is the same thing) and it performs very well in the tests I've seen. Considering a GX4 myself, thanks for the test.
That sounded painful
Show is the recoil next time...
👍👍powerful round
The thing about 30 supercarryyou can’t find them everywhere…Hell HST u can find them on the ground if the gun store is out of stock 😂….I’ll stick with the well-known performing HST. You can find them all over the planet.
That’s a lot in a small gun. I can’t imagine what I’d want a 180HP in that for. I usually run 180 hardcast for bear protection.
As expected from both companies. Underwood 💪 Fijoki 🤏
👍👍Thanks Dave, definitely more powerful
Thanks for also being a fellow catman like myself.
Thanks for the testing.
No problem 👍
You can shoot a lot of 38 no problem?
Oh, yes. 357 is the same diameter. The numbers are different, but that's a long story.
The mag fell out???!!! Forget that!!!
Yup. Traded up to a G42
👍👍yep, they must’ve did there chronograph testing with an 8” barrel.
Not surprised with that brand
Great video, thanx for the trip, Rossie also made the 92 in 480 ruger, 100 of em world wide, I sent mine to Alaskan ballistics The shots fired video is up under 454 casull vs 480 ruger Using underwood penitrators. ... I Got 357 revolvers, If I were to shoot 357 outa rifle I would load those 357 bullets into a 35 whelen case, haven't tried it yet, I think I would have to do a duplex load of X brand rifle powder And trail boss, or black powder to fill in the empty space,,,, and keep the velocities under 2000 fps Because I think I have enuf guns..
I think the LCP Max would have handled them but it would have been really, really unpleasant. Frankly I have been looking for soft shooting rounds with good penetration and 75gr copper target flat points are what I have loaded up right now and I have some 70gr lead free flat points to try out.
Carbon City? I've tested those. They're solid performers.
👍👍
Please consider using a stand with a proper backstop, not a live tree that could be used for a tree stand, timbering, used by game for cover from predators, marking territory (bear, deer), or other beneficial purposes that won’t injure the tree.
Its his tree why would it be a tree stand or cut down by anyone other then him
@@dangar_larusso Agreed. 1. My plea was to the author. 2. I have difficulty finding where I implied or directly stated that anyone other than the author had the right to make that choice (hence, the plea).
That tree is dead.
👍👍Thanks Dave
You're welcome.
And what do you do with that load?
