So what do you do when your lawn is drought impacted and weeds are constant throughout the lawn in this heat?

Our lawn maintenance man cut the zoysia dramatically lower to almost bald last early September in St Louis when it was growing really nicely. It never recovered for the rest of the season and this year it looked tired and thin. I did have our 1100 sq ft lawn finally core aerated and I dethatched, and have put on a new blade on our Ryobi electric mower. I let go the worker because he kept wanting to cut it really short, but i thought it was too stressed for that, and it wasn't growing at all really. After letting it grow out to maybe 3.5" and with more regular watering, it's finally looking better in many places but it's still not fully recovered yet. Do you think his cutting it too short and too quickly (maybe he cut 50-60% of the grass that time last September) was the main stressor? Or was it lack of recent core aeration, too little watering or a dull blade? Thank you.

Hi Chad, I like your suggestion. Do you think its effective if I Mix Avenue South with Imidaclopri 2F and Bifen XTS in the same backpack sprayer, or should I spray seperately to maximize effectiveness of weed control and Insecticides? thank you.

I built a new house in the Houston area 2 1/2 years ago on 3/4 acre. Builder filled lot with sand / clay mix. I had 18 wheel truck load of St Augustine installed around the perimeter of the house ( about half the yard). Also had irrigation installed in the same area. I had 5 dump truck loads of real topsoil from a local pasture spread over the clay / sand mix and leveled for the rest of the yard. The area where the topsoil is leveled is well maintained common Bermuda. Appears to be some of the same issues with ST Augustine you have demonstrated in some of your videos (thin, lots of bares spots ) . Where the topsoil and Bermuda live i have supplemented volunteer Bermuda with seed common Bermuda. It does just fine even with Texas heat and no irrigation. Trying to figure a way to fix the ST Augustine. Maybe an experiment with the soil mix is in order? I actually saw my neighbor throw down a dozen bags of compost /manure mix on a bunch of bare spots . My situation is worse than his though.

So many dry spots on our lawn. however, HOA only allows 2 days a week for watering!

I added a very thin layer of black Kow to mt st Augustine grass to help thicken up a dew areas and now those spots have weed galore, but weeds were never an issue in thise spots 😖. Any ideas why? my local nursery sells command, thats going to be my next go too.

They are back on the gulf coast in Texas this year with a vengeance. Thousands of moths flying out of the grass. Soon as I saw the moths I treated with a box store liquid hose sprayer. A week or so later the evidence was clear that a lot of worms made it through that application. I then laid down the granular and lightly watered in. Still a lot of worms made it through that. Now I am spot spraying the areas that they are active in. These worms are getting tough. I think the trick is to just expect sod webworms and treat before you see the moths. It seems like when the moths are that congested it’s too late and those box store products are not going to kill them all. You will have to go out late afternoon/early evening and spot spray where you see damage taking place. Of course my lawn is green and lush so it seems all the moths decided to take a vacation on my property. I would say treat late July early august to be safe and do not wait until you see the moths. At that point you are fighting an uphill battle.

Bought a house with a nice lawn. I inow nothing about lawns but i bust out my old mower with no bag..........now im regretting it as i see that was probably a big factor of in just two years bermuda is completely taking over now😢.......guess I'll just have to live with it until i can afford to completely redo it😅. Recently just bought a mower with a bag and i should have done so from the start. Now I'm paying for waiting😅

hi Chad, I used triazcide granulars last week on my st. aug grass, I have sod webworms and dont want to lose my beautiful lawn. Can I still use permthrin and bifen also? If you have a small fungus issue, cinnamon works. I saw someone on CZcams mention how cinnamon has antifungal properties and I used it 2 years ago and it worked.

I have plenty of weeds that you showed in south Florida at Augustine lawn. Where do you get avenue south? It’s not listed in your videos description? Also does it come in small package as it seem it’s pretty costly elsewhere.

Love your content. Do you know of any organic pre emergent for crabgrass in st augustine? It keeps creeping in from my neighbors lawn. I really don't want to manually pull it all and lay new sod because I know it's going to come back next year

I’m in south Texas and a new home owner. St Augustine grass got laid out about 3 months ago but there’s also other types of grass in patches and some weeds. I also have an uneven lawn that’s quite bumpy. I was wondering what should deal with first, the bumpy lawn or weeds/different grass?

Whoaaaa i did this exact thing april an dmay of this year after my lawn totlaly died last year. i broguht black kow and play sand from home depot and yried to level and help gut nutrient to what ever is left growing on the yard. It is august and my grass are back baby.

Unfortunately, I can't get Command in my area. Would a mixture of Black Cow and Peat Moss work well?

17ml is confusing you have to stick with oz. 15ml is 0.5 oz so 17 ml is slightly above 0.5 oz.

I agree - Zoysia is not a dought tolerant grass in Texas! I have a mixture of Zeon and Zorro Zoysia which are very thin blade cultivars. I live in the Brazos valley of Texas and it is very hot throughout the summer. Our soil has a lot of clay and anything over 15 minutes of watering in my rotor zones is wasted by run-off. To get deep watering, which is important to encourage deep root growth, I have to run multiple 15 minute cycles per day. My soil responds very well to a water - soak - water regime. Because I have 11 zones, the soak cycle lasts 1.5 hours. Three days a week of two 15 minute cycles combined with the soak interval does well for normal 95 degree no rain weather. If the temperatures climb higher and relative humidity drops or the no rain period lengthens into a drought, I have to add extra cycles by adding days. If we get supplemental rain like we have been getting this year, I can cut back to only two days a week.
