It always hurts to DNF a book but it's especially painful when its 4 books in a row. But, this frees up your reading time for books you will hopefully love and finish. I had 6 DNFs last month so I feel your pain.

The Timothy Wilde series by Lyndsay Faye is excellent. I have not read her orher books so I can't compare but l Read Thay series a while ago and I keep telling myself I should reread it.

Such a fun tbr video! I went to a panel this weekend with Sarah Beth Durst on, and now I want to read all her books!

I'm sorry you didn't love the books you read, but I LOVE that you fearlessly DNF'd them! I''m a big fan of DNF'ing. Life is too short to read books you're not loving.

This is very much a win, Lianne. You took four books out of contention. That’s massive.

I'm sorry that books you really thought you'd like didn't work out, especially after you hung onto them through your previous collection culls. That being said, I'm in the camp of people who are really happy you tackled them, ever if they were DNFs. Now you know for sure they're not for you and you can open up that space for new potential faves. Also- they don't have to take up any more mental space, as there's no more guilt for having not read them. I think this vlog was a total win!

Look at it this way - in ONE episode you were able to knock out almost 10% of your starting list!!! 📦

I mostly read ebooks I very rarely buy physical books anymore but I do have 30 physical books in my tbr. Some of them I bought 20 years ago.😂 I can't unhaul them until I read them though. I read only 1 physical book a month so it will take me time but I don't mind. Great video ❤

Love the dnf's it's freeing to no longer feel guilt over the dusty ones! They've been there for a while they should have a low dnf bar!

No, it’s not you. I DNF’d Birnam Wood too. I made it to 200 pages - forced myself to go that far as it was a book club read. There was nothing clever about it, in my opinion. I also take issue with being lectured at, where the author’s voice and message is getting in the way of the story. It was also incredibly boring. At one point, as one character is going up through the woods and comes across some security, you think it’s going to get interesting. A coupe of pages later and it’s “false alarm”

It's so disappointing when you end up DNFin books that have been sitting on your shelves for ages, been there, done that. But I hope you can still see this as a good thing; you tackled some tbr veterans, and now you can get rid of them knowing that you gave them a chance. And as a viewer, I don't mind DNFs at all! They're a good reminder that we don't (usually) _have_ to read books we're not enjoying and it's ok to move on to something else.

You're clearing space off both your TBR and your bookshelves. I'd argue that four DNFs is a huge victory! Four less books haunting you now :)

Oh my… I feel your pain, Lianne! I’ve been DNF’ing at a record pace lately. And funny enough, I’m reading Birnam Wood right now. Only 40 pages in and wondering if anything will ever happen. Agreed, most people have watched enough movies or TV to understand the different words used in other english speaking countries. In my opinion the words should be based on where the book takes place not on what part of the world it is being read in. Inexplicably, R.L. Stine, in the Goosebumps books, uses UK terms instead of American. Yet he is an American writer and the books don’t take place anywhere in particular. Some of the words I noted as I read a bunch of the Goosebumps books that he used UK terms as opposed to American : Boot vs trunk Lift vs Elevator Charity shop vs Thrift store Sweets instead of candy Rubbish instead of trash Rubbish bin instead of trash can or garbage can Rubbish bag instead of trash or garbage bag Football instead of soccer ball Mac instead of raincoat or jacket Trainers instead of shoes or sneakers Snaps instead of pics or photos Bums instead of butt Plaster instead of bandaid Fringe instead of bangs (hair) Stone instead of pounds for weight Metres instead of feet or yards. (Also the alternate spelling which is less common in the states) Mobile instead of cell kilometre instead of miles Pram instead of baby carriage or stroller Tyres instead of tires Skip instead of dumpster Jumper instead of sweater Boot instead of trunk Crisps instead of chips Swimming costumes (is that English or just old fashioned?) instead of bathing suit or swimsuit Bum instead of butt Chemist instead of pharmacy or drugstore maths instead of math

I am watching this on Monday, using your timed sprints to switch between the books I am in the middle of. The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub, Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang, biography of Marlene Dietrich by her daughter Maria Riva and graphic novel Monstress by Marjorie Liu.

You say Oregon correctly! Also this makes me ashamed of my shelves. I have some books on there that I've had for over 10 years...... BUT at my defense, I had some health issues that kept me from reading for a lot of those years. But not all of them 🤦🏻‍♀️

Picnic at Hanging Rock is wonderful- I reckon it would be a good Halloween read, actually.

📦 I feel your pain! It's so disheartening to encounter DNF after DNF. However, you can spin this in your favor and see it as a good thing; you're clearing out more shelf space at a quicker than anticipated pace and making room for books that you will enjoy upon purchase.

So many of us have been unwilling to DNF because we saw it as a failure. But life's too short to force yourself to read something you don't enjoy. You were able to DNF a few books and whittle down your TBR pile. WOOT WOOT!

I don't think I'd have the courage to work out how long I've had some books on my tbr. Pretty sure I have more than a few that have hit the US drinking age. And I really do intend to actually read most of them, eventually.

i think it's more likely that for everyone that tbr vets don't Hit like we want them to - i think there's something subconscious about us skipping certain books for a while that is sort of a portent for them not being good reads for us
