Reading for me in January felt like having a shower. I hated the thought of it entirely but I made myself do it and once I was doing it, I didn't want to stop. On the upside, the books were so very good.
💖 I have always been a mood reader but 2022 was a massive slump year because I couldn't find the books I needed to read for my mood. 2023 saw me have a "Mood TBR" and it worked so well I read 233 books (best year in a looooong time). So I have done it again this year but changed it slightly.

An oldie off my shelves

A series book (one I'm up to date on)

Plus extras....I get to "mood" read what I want but have a bit of structure and not be aimless. January I read 31 books. I'm having the time of my reading life. My out of the box book this month is Bright Young Women and my non-fiction book is The Girls Who Fought Crime 💜
I think it's so interesting the effect Ninth House has on people. I'm in the 'love it' camp. I hope you love Hell Bent
The Fitzalong gave me a much needed push to finally pick the series up. I've read the first book Assassins Apprentice years ago and never continued, currently re-reading it and really enjoying it, looking forward to finally finding out what comes next!

I read The Historian a long time ago, and enjoyed it, but I would say the blurb may overemphasize the role of the young protagonist we start and end with. In terms of page count her father's account probably gets more time, plus the third perspective he includes in the form of letters by another character. Definitely one of those slow, atmospheric books. And yes, I have about forty audiobooks to get through before they rotate out of availability at the end of the month, and definitely won't finish them all. One does one's best. 😅💓
I'm here reading Three Hours by Rosamund Lupton as one of my early February reads and totally putting myself into a book hangover. Great recommendation, but now I have to recover.

I lead two book clubs at work (I am a librarian), so two books I know I will be reading this month are Lone Women by Victor LaValle and All the Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby. We also have a staff reading challenge, and the topic for February is to read a book with a number in the title, so I will be reading One Salt Sea by Seanan McGuire, which happens to be the next book I need to read in the October Daye series. In addition to those commitments, I am currently listening to the audiobook for Red Rising. I should finish that sometime this month, so once I do, I plan to start Starling House by Alix E. Harrow. Aside from those and finishing the other three books I am in the middle of, I don't have any specific plans, but I am hoping I will have time to read some of the novellas on my TBR as well. There are several I would like to read before the Hugo nomination deadline, which was just announced as March 9, which doesn't give me much time!

I consider myself to have finished the Diviners series even though I DNF'd the last book. I tried 3 or 4 times to read the King of Crows and I was just so bored and could not bring myself to care even when I wanted to. It's a shame because books 1-3 were amazing
💞 I also do the wish list thing (I have one for the library and one for books to be bought), and I can usually tell looking back through it after a spell where I had a hyper focus that has since burned out. Has probably saved me quite a bit! I'm working through a Poirot and a Marple a month for 2024, so that's my main goal.

I have joined the Fitzalong, so going to finish that first. Then I am trying to read down some of my physical books this month. I do have a series that the last book dropped in December 2023, but I really really want to reread the first three so I might start that this month. Typically I am a mood reader so we will see were my mood takes me.
