      Yep it does build off the current version of Blitz. If you bust out the minis and measuring tape it basically plays the same (Aside of some math-related stuff to make it more RPG-ish, with individual character skills, etc). I actually had an easier time understanding stuff from the RPG just because I played Blitz first.

    As a point of comparison - the old way the system worked was: Roll a number of dice equal to your skill, and the highest is your outcome. If you roll multiple sixes, you get +1 for each past the first (ie three sixes is 6+1+1 =8). Your Raw attributes can add a bonus or penalty to that maximum outcome. (the average number is zero - if your very good it could be plus one to three, and abysmal could be negative). As with the new system, you're looking at the margin of success over the target number. In combat, margin of success multiplied your damage (now it adds to it) while targets had multiple thresholds for injury. Say a weapon did fifteen (15) damage, you would multiply that by your margin of success, and then compare it to the three levels or armor on an enemy unit (light, heavy, overkill) to see your effect. So say a vehicle that is 20/40/50 against our 15 weapon, one MoS is only scratching the paint, two levels is inflicting medium damage (total of 30 is more than 20, but less than 40) and forcing a roll on a table to see what systems are disabled, and a margin of four (4x15=60) scraps our target outright. Technically, there was a way to make your own gear, but the construction system required a scientific calculator and using square roots for some of the equations. I like robots and power armor - but do not care for calculus. That said - screw the Steam Summer Sale, I'll probably get Heavy Gear instead.

    Note: I think a case can be made that you'd always want your disposable clone soldiers to be visually distinct from "real" humans. You don't want commanders becoming attached or overly emotional to them. You don't want them to hide among "real" people. You don't want any bleeding hearts asking "are we the baddies" when you send a few thousand out to charge across the land mine field.

    Union is such Fertile ground for campaign storys It is such a refreshing concept while still having interesting debate at its core You take an average TTRPG story and its like "everything is bad what are you gonna do to fix it" Or like a classic D&D story "go on a quest to kill this one guy" I have seen so many Lancer supplementals that are like "you live in the most back water diaspora of all time its time to make your rags to riches legend" and like i understand thats the classic story and there us alot about Union in the core book already But what I'm saying is lancer gives a chance to tell a new story through Thirdcomm "things are good and here and it's your job to make them good everywhere (and you get big fucking robots along the way)"

    this seems pretty directly influenced by the work (and title) by Dali called "The Persistence of Memory." you know, the melting clocks. he stated (to paraphrase) that he was trying to illustrate the essence and dialogue of accessing memory of a time, and place. sometimes the impressions are vivid, sharp, and precise. sometimes the memory (and time within it) is warped by accessing it. surrealists looked to different methods to access the buried information that existed below the surface of their consciousness, but many adopted automatism, a means of making art that embraced chance and attempted to remove consciousness. by splattering paint, allowing materials to fall and be placed according to chance, and doodling around the resulting shapes and composition, the artist essentially removed their agency as much as possible from the creative process. here, the record keeper seems to be playing the role of surrealist artist - the players are elements of the composition. but the players also seem to be delving for their own buried content - the characters, scene, and game system could all be viewed as a form of automatism. the idea seems to be that by accessing the unconscious mind the composers and composition can enter a pure form of narrative that has not been sterilized by social mores or insecurities. can you tell i'm charmed by this? this is awesome.

    Why Ra would go so far as to do anything for or against Humanity is odd and off. It would lose nothing if it let Humanity destroy itself once again, yet when transhumanism is a thing, and at any point in time, Ra gets upsetty-spaghetti, and takes action. Either it is preventing ascension into extinction, doesn’t want competition, or something else. Perhaps preventing these fictional characters from “leaving the book” that is their simulation, and into ours? Our reality, I suppose.

    As per usual for HA Mecha, Sherman is NOT in line with ThirdComm Utopian Pillars if used correctly. You think Genghis does collateral damage? Pathetic. If you let a Genghis get within range you deserve what's coming.     The cover art reminds me of Land of the lustrious- that manga about gem people fighting moon creatures (there's more and it goes existential, but no spoilers) Quite possibly due to proportions of the character And the game, just like surrealism, is very interpretative- that's why it's kinda hard to understand. It's vague on purpose, just giving a few more defined lines for the person looking at it to hold on to.
