NORWICH CITY: CARROW ROAD - THE HISTORY
Carrow Road was built in just 82 days during the summer of 1935. In the years before, Norwich played at a ground called “The Nest”, but it had limited capacity and suddenly failed to meet FA safety requirements.
Norwich quickly found a new site though, and in the weeks before the new season built a new stadium. Carrow Road opened on the 31st of August 1935 with a league match between Norwich and West Ham (4-3).
The stadium initially consisted of one covered seating stand and open terraces on earth banking on the other three sides. The ground could hold about 38,000 spectators.
Few changes were made to the stadium until in the 1960s several smaller improvements were made that mainly consisted of increased cover.
Carrow Road recorded its highest attendance in 1963 when 43,984 fans visited an FA Cup match between Norwich and Leicester City.
In the early 1980s, two out of four stands were rebuilt, but due to safety measures and increased seating capacity the overall capacity of the stadium slowly got reduced to about 28,000.
In the early 1990s, Carrow Road got converted into an all-seater, which involved the construction of new stand called The Barclay.
About a decade later, in 2003, the South Stand got replaced by a new stand called the Jarrold Stand. This stand got further extended in 2005 by linking the stand to the Peterborough Stand.
In recent years, Norwich City have tentatively considered further expanding Carrow Road, but have decided that an expansion will only be feasible after the club has played at least three seasons in the Premier League.

I am old enough and lucky enough to have seen Everton games from every part of Goodison since 1960. The best view I every had was in the old Park end stand seated half way up in the centre. You could see every vantage point from the elevated view. One lasting memory was from August 1965 on a warm midweek game I saw the great Alex Young score a wonderful hat trick in a 5-1 defeat of a top Sheffield Wednesday side. The forgotten Fred Pickering scored 2 that night. Everton would beat the same team later that season in the FA Cup final. A big regret is there is no TV footage taken of the vast Goodison Road terracing that held over 20.000 it was an incredible sight when full. The 60s TV coverage was from a Gantry fixed by scaffold on the balcony of the old stand so you saw the Paddock and two goal stands and terracing. From the 1970s to date the TV cameras where on a suspended platform from the roof of the Bullens Road stand that in the early days showed a narrow view of the ground as if came from a helicopter. This all came about over the clubs cool approach to TV coverage in the 60s that no proper TV Camera gantry was ever planned in the new stand built in 1971.

Nothing beats the character, style & feel of these old football stadiums. This ground appears to have a church in the corner! That's gold, u wont get that in the new boring stadiums. & to think they once had 72,000 plus packed in like sardines. o how i wish i could have been there. Simply magical.

I would credit you in the videos end credits. Part of the song lyric is: "But his dad stood on the Gallowgate, in 1954, When the Lattics came tiv worry wuh, til Jackie Milburn scored." I should add that I make no money from the music. Thanks John.

There's nothing wrong with the Old Trafford stadium that a bit if TLC won't cure. All it needs is the Upgrade of the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand & East & West quadrant to complete the original design & a Levelled Retractable New Roof + modern refurbishment of the rest of the stadium to warrant at least 90K capacity Take Note: The stadium expansion MUST NOT exceed the rail track Let's complete the Old Trafford Stadium, we feel in 18 month to 2 years copying Real Madrid project with the right people it can be achieved in line with progress on the pitch cos we deserve more! Worth a view, please share!

We want an Expansion to approx 90K capacity, Modern refurbishment & a Levelled Retractable New Roof! There's an completed stadium design on WHF!🔰@UtdWesleyy with a comment stating: So apparently we are looking at an expansion of Old Trafford. It’s been talked about for years but put off because of the complications around the south section of the stadium but if we do manage to do it…🔴 2 Tier SBC Capacity: 88,000+ We're sure that can be achieved with minimal fuss by observation cos its already laid out going by our walk around the stadium experience. Take Note: The Stadium Must Not Exceed the rail way track! Worth a view, please share!

I appreciate it’s hard not to be partisan where Bramall Lane is concerned, but the ground is steeped in football history & should be recognised for that. It was used by Sheffield FC, Hallam FC & The Wednesday. You cannot change history & you shouldn’t distort it either, all clubs who played their matches there should be acknowledged. Sheffield itself should be recognised as the birthplace of association Football & anyone from the city should be proud of that.

A truelly massive and once more safe football ground as long as you kept to your teams end. The only problems I noticed was because some off duty soldiers tried to alledgedly start fights. I sat next to Peter Taylors nan in the funny little wooden stand which seemed to be an afterthought. Great Performance for my mighty Saufend!
