- Newcastle United: The evolution of St James' Park since 1892.
St James' Park is a football stadium in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It is the home of Premier League club Newcastle United F.C. With a seating capacity of 52,388 it is the seventh largest football stadium in England.
St James' Park has been the home ground of Newcastle United since 1892 and has been used for football since 1880. Throughout its history, the desire for expansion has caused conflict with local residents and the local council.
This has led to proposals to move at least twice in the late 1960s, and a controversial 1995 proposed move to nearby Leazes Park.
Reluctance to move has led to the distinctive lop-sided appearance of the present-day stadium's asymmetrical stands.

Nice one, man - good to see the way the stadium developed even if the team has gone backwards, lol
I was expecting the last picture to be of 52,000 Geordies leaving the ground with an angry look on their faces, spitting on the floor and punching horses....
Great video and great watch, very informative!
I'm a Sheffield United fan but I've always admired those 2 huge stands at st James park, reminds me a little of fc braga
Lovely stuff. Of course ruined at the end with that Sports Direct guff adorning the stands
To go back even further look up Mitchell and Kenyon Films, there is film of Newcastle vs Liverpool 1901, showing a previous main stand. Good bit of film.
You missed the Sports Direct Stadium out. Great video I liked the 1930's photo and the Archibald Leitch drawings
another good video matey

Hi,
I'm a musician from the UK. I'm creating a music video for a track I've written and wondered whether you'd allow me to use a few seconds from your brilliant video.
I would credit you in the videos end credits. Part of the song lyric is: "But his dad stood on the Gallowgate, in 1954,
When the Lattics came tiv worry wuh, til Jackie Milburn scored."
I should add that I make no money from the music.
Thanks
John.
Beautiful stadium
You can add a bit on at the end soon when the new owners start work on increasing the capacity. C'mon Newcastle
Where the away fans sit in the above tier is far too steep .
Can’t they make it bigger so even all the road
The area at the back of the East Stand are "listed buildings" and protected from further development. So the stand can't be developed.
Then Villa won 1-0 and sent them down
OriginalNoseBleed And when Newcastle got promoted we stuffed villa 6-0 🤣
When Newcastle got back in the prem they got their revenge by hammering Villa 6-0 on the opening day of the season
