    How do I say this… The inherent disdain for Baker and damning the Bucs with faint praise is a little tedious at this point? If their offensive line improves this season that could be a big difference for them. Tampa’s run game was non-existent yet they still got the Ws. It would be a more prudent mindset to assume that they remain a force in the division and must be overcome. Let’s not be feeling ourselves because Terry and Raheem made signings that the roster has needed for months. For all we know they’d have sat on their hands if not for the injuries. The Falcons also have a largely untested staff, and I suspect that is one unanswered question among outsiders. Morris is super charismatic to be sure, but he’s not running for President so I’m sticking at cautious optimism for now. lol Am I pleased that Judon and Simmons are here? Absolutely. Although from a roster construction POV will be back here again in 2025. As will the need to resolve several contracts.

      I don't think describing the 2023 Bucs as a "force" is in any way accurate. They were painfully average and replacing Canales with Liam Cohen is...not likely to produce good results.

      @@TheFalcoholicLive Adapting to changes in personnel is never a sure thing and I wouldn’t suggest that it is. However, the Bucs have been the real consistent operator in the NFC South for a number of years now. And when Baker hasn’t been injured or with a dysfunctional management team, he’s often been better than I think you guys portray. They handled business against the Eagles and came relatively close to beating theLions; I’m going to have a degree of respect for that more than I do derision. Agree to disagree, of course, but I’d still like to see this staff in this roster earn their stripes first. We’ve got our own share of untested coordinators and reclamation projects, after all.

      I think it's something the team would consider, but they seem to be looking for more of the "small athlete" type as opposed to the possession receiver. Plus with Chris Blair coming on strong to close camp, they may just wait and see if anyone really interesting shakes loose after cuts.

    I've said multiple times now, Terry is heavily influenced by how the Ravens team build. Some of those principles include: - The team is primarily built from the draft. 25 of the 31 draft picks Terry has made are still on the team. - Free agent signings come in the form of good players on the tail end of their prime or at positions without a high dollar market at the position - The commitment to free agents are usually on bang for buck low risk/high reward contracts - If there is a clear out on a contract, they try to maintain it and do not like to push money down the road in an unmanageable or nonbeneficial way. This is why I totally disagree with Kevin on the names he listed to create space. I think Jessie Bates is the only player to likely have his contract restructured. I think they'd extend Pitts before any of the names listed to create space. I would suggest studying how the Ravens build their team because it heavily influences clearly what this front office does. The other part of what the Ravens do is they let the players on the roster play it out, they are very much a draft and develop team. Investing in free agency usually comes as a result of injury, a deal that's hard to pass up, but hardly ever for lack of faith in the talent they have. Had Hellams and Trice not been injured, these signings likely wouldn't have happened. That's why I think the slander that some of these players get like Richie Grant, is over the top. Like the Ravens, this regime believes in role clarity for players and the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Who was the household name that helped the Ravens get 60 sacks last season and be arguably the league's best defense? Signing Simmons was an opportunity to get talent to address a depth issue, but it's not really a signing because Grant isn't good enough. It's actually an opportunity to make the safety position a strength, and don't be surprised to see more 3 safety looks. Similar for the Judon signing. There's a reason both are on 1 year deals unlikely to be signed beyond this season outside of a very friendly deal. I say the latter part because I yearn for the day where evaluation of how good a team is for fans comes from a place of understanding systems and schemes and whether a player is good enough based on fit in a role, rather than being a "name brand" player or "household name". Good football teams are not about just assembling "all-stars" and guys fans know the name of. Ravens, Chiefs, Dolphins, the Bills for multiple seasons now, ask yourself how many players on those defenses carry "name brand" value. Or is it that those systems are fine tuned with well defined roles with a few good, sometimes great, players, but mostly guys who just fit a role.

    So....if you say Rah was going to blitz some LBs and DBs to get some pressure. But all teams woukd do is double Grady and force everyone else to beat 1on 1 and you didn't have confidence in that. I feel that completely. But if you feel that way, then to say that Judon isn't going to have a dramatic effect on the defenses pass rush is crazy to me. You said it not going to be spectacular, but it will be OK. I ask this question because....Judon played for the Patriots the last 3 yrs....they never had leads and he was the best player on their team, Not defense but their whole team. The Pats pretty much had to do what you said Rah was going to do this yr. Meaning Blitz LBs, DBs. Buy Teams Just Slide Protection to Judons....and said you other players will just have to beat 1on 1s... guess what even with the protection slide Judons way he still got 12 and 15 sacks. Even though the Pats played from behind without a lead so he had low chances to rush the passer he still had double digit sacks, let that sink in. He played 15 games had 15 sacks played 4 games last season had 4 sacks. The man is like that. His stats are on par with Parsons and Reddick. He is top 6 in every category that involves DE/OLBs we talking talks for loss, total tackles, sacks, pressure, hits on QBs ...the works. NFL top 100 backs this up along with the stats. He is the best Defensive player on this team now period. No doubt about that. It's not even close. This man carried a whole team in NE. This is the player that Rah has been waiting for. It's up!!!!

    @joeschmo5782 Před 11 dny

    Good stream guys. You guys brought up the point about replacing Hellams, hopefully it's nothing serious. But to me, there's conflating two points. We're either talking about upgrading the safety position by signing someone like a Simmons, or finding a replacement for Hellams. The former should've been a conversation regardless of Hellams's injury rather than sparked by his injury in my view, if people are uncomfortable with the safety position. I bring that up because I can see them moving forward with Cruikshank getting a bump to safety. Raheem summarized something I've been preaching into two words over the past month: "role clarity". It's not about collecting talent that looks good on paper and hoping it works out. It's about having clearly defined roles based on specific skills and telling players to play within that box. If Cruikshank can play the role Hellams was going to play, I don't see why they don't just move forward with him. It's why I also keep preaching to get familiar with scheme. It's easier to digest a "lesser known" player getting a bump when you know or have a good idea of what role they're filling in for. Would I like Simmons? Sure, I was rooting for Winfield Jr to be a big off-season signing. But I don't think it's realistic from a cap standpoint, and I'd rather the team stay cap friendly year-to-year (how to do that is another conversation). Other thing, I'd suggest you guys take a look around the league of what depth on each team truly looks like. I think there might this warped view of what most teams look like as far as depth compared to the Falcons. Most teams are lucky if they've got good depth in a few position groups. Falcons imo, have good depth at a few spots. Everyone is weak somewhere. That's inevitable. The question is how you mitigate those weaknesses within the framework of your team, rather than just keep signing "name brand" talent.

    I would like to say this. This Falcons team with Ridder at QB beat the Packers with Jordan Love at the helm and the Texans with CJ Stroud at the helm. I say that to say this...as bad as people want to say the Falcons are on D. Or as a team in general. They still beat two teams that are considered contenders this yr with 1 hand tied behind their backs. Realize this team scored 15 pts a game last season. With no passing game to speak of or a running game that never really materialized and still almost won the Div. I know this team will score atleast 28pts a game, and that is on the low end. The Falcons will be this yrs Detroit Lions. Jump on the bandwagon now, people!!!
