Great content Kevin! I'm glad that I'm not the only one trying to find ways for the Falcons to end up with one of the top CBs and Tyler Nubin. I think if we could pull that off we would have an elite secondary.
I think one thing many people are going to be surprised about is not that the Falcons value edge, but how they will value it. If you truly study Morris and Lake's defensive pasts, you'll notice they value interior D-Line more than the edge when it comes to investment. I won't dive deep, but I encourage others do. But what you'll find is that they prefer their answers at edge to be a group of guys rather than one guy they rely on. That is a bigger guy for base packages, a DPR, someone for coverage, etc. And then they will rotate guys out based on game situation. Very much how many teams approach the RB position. They've been gathering and have a roster full of guys on the D-Line who line up between the tackles, and a variety at the edge position. Don't be surprised if they invest more at the DT spot than edge. They may take an edge mid-round to fill a role others on the roster can't along with signing a vet, like a Bud Dupree, and that may be it. And many fans will go nuts over it, but there is a purpose when you break down their defensive scheme history.
I can certainly agree with your comments. Being that the Rams haven’t had a first round draft pick since 2016, these coaches coming from the Rams tree has won divisions and a Super Bowl during their tenure. Why would they change or break the mold that produces results? So if they continue to follow the Rams model, they’ll gather picks and select their guy later and select dependent on needs.
Nate Tice of the Athletic has Mustapha as his #1 safety. I think he'd be a really great fit next to Bates if we're going to run a defense similar to what the Rams had last season.
I hope they trade back maybe with the Raiders to 13 or whoever the Falcons can get a 2nd round pick from.
