Backpacking in Three Sisters Wilderness: 28 Miles & South Sister Summit
Ever dreamt of scaling a mountain peak and then soaking in serene alpine lakes? Join us on our awe-inspiring 6-day, 28-mile backpacking adventure through the Three Sisters Wilderness in Oregon! Our journey began at Pole Creek Trailhead, where we tackled a challenging first day filled with downed trees on the way to our beloved Golden Lake. After a restorative zero day spent swimming and exploring the area, we embarked on shorter hikes to Green Lakes and Moraine Lake, savoring breathtaking vistas and enjoying delicious snacks along the way.
The true highlight arrived on day five, where we endeavored to conquer South Sister, the third tallest peak in Oregon. This ambitious 7.5-mile trek pushed us to our limits as we ascended through scree fields and past Lewis Tarn, ultimately reaching the summit with its incredible views and the highest lake in Oregon, Teardrop Pool. Though originally planned as a loop hike, we opted to descend the next day due to fatigue and a long term injury.
Our final day involved a leisurely morning at camp before tackling the final miles back to the Devil's Lake Trailhead, where we were greeted by a friendly face and a ride home. This unforgettable adventure left us brimming with gratitude for the beauty and challenges of the Three Sisters Wilderness.
Hike Dates: July 22-27, 2023.
Special thanks to Laura for be an ever constant companion, and to Abby for hiking in a super heavy re-supply only for us to hike out the next day!

Amazing views. Great video. Thanks for sharing. 👍25
My most appreciated mountain in Oregon. Enjoyed your video of this spectacular place. I have been up there more than 20xs. Mike
Beautifully done -- practically an epic! And the outtakes are a hoot! 🥇
Hi - I came across this video yesterday after searching for Austin Creson viewpoint. I haven't been there since the trail has been completed and plan on hiking to the viewpoint soon. Austin was my dad, this was neat to watch. :)
What time of year was this?
Great trip. The lakes are incredibly beautiful. If I tried that at 8:48 I would be in the water. Ha ha.
Great hike friend ! Interesting how build connections and memories with nature, indeed there is some serenity to the area. Thank you for taking us along 🥰
So many birds!
Beautiful!
Stunning footage! This area is where I first started backpacking and brings back a lot of memories. You put in a lot of miles but really enjoyed getting to see all these areas again. Looked like you ended up with some nice weather also and only a bit of smoke. That is a tough end to summit South Sister, but you prevailed haha. The production was fantastic!
I loved this video so much. Beautifully composed and presented. I love the mix of expression through music, but still leaving in the audio from the video footage. I felt like i could see what it might be like to hike that area. So very beautiful, thank you for sharing!
Looks like some of those trees have seen better days. This was beautiful, and I don’t just mean the scenery. I’m talking about the way you filmed it. Absolutely Wonderful. I will often study films made by others for ideas to help make my filming better. This is one of those films. 👍
Wow, i just love those little blue pools in the snow up on the mountain.
Beautiful
One of your best episodes, brilliant editing! Brilliant! Views, storytelling, atmosphere everything fits so perfectly!
Hi Mr. Zoomdak It was pleasure chatting with you It was very pleasant hike, but something different. Your solo hiking focuses on the beauty of nature vs. This one is about Family, Your core value, Now I see your future with your charming wife, Mrs. Zoomdak I witness another face of your life...I thank YOU. OMGoodness, I totally forgot that you had another guest in your audience...so sorry. Hope to catch next one. Ta-Ta What is your TO GO Camera Lens?
Congratulations, a fantastic adventure...hello also to Laura and Abby...well done!👍👍👍
You must have hiked the trail twice to film it.
Beautiful scenery. So many great shots.
Lovely to watch this video on its May 15th premiere. Beauty, wonder, playfulness, glory in nature, good guidance for all us backpackers to plan our next outing, along with perfectly chosen music as backdrop to an excellent 9 and a half minute video. Watch, Share, Like. Yay Zoomdak!
This is the most beautiful thing I've seen today. I feel like my soul has healed for a second... thank you so much. ❤️ I hope i can experience something like that one day! 🤩✨
This makes me so glad to hear! Exactly what I'm trying to do with my channel. Bring the beauty of creation to others so they may experience a little bit of that peace.
Awesome video, gorgeous setting!
Thank you very much! It's a rad area!
Have you hiked in the Three Sisters Wilderness?
I have! we were there last November and lost my GoPro in South Sister 😞 under 2' of snow and couldn't find it. Oh well, beautiful place thou!
Only a tiny portion late last summer when I hiked a single overnight at Erma Bell Lakes. It was mild when I was there, but I believe they had snow the following weekend. It was a beautiful hike!
Nice one my friend 👍👍
Thank you, appreciate it!
I think it paid off because the footage is stunning 🤍
Thanks, I was worried it was going to drop the signal, but really pleased with how the shots turned out.
Let’s keep walking across it 😂
Majestic Nature 👑
Truly!
I used to not like driving far distances but more recently I’ve been enjoying the rides there. 👍
Indeed. I never really look forward to long drives but then usually enjoy them when they happen!
That’s right. In order to have a story you need a beginning, a middle, and an end.👍
Exactly!
Good advice. I like posting it to CZcams for great memories to look back on. 👍
So true. Sometimes I look back and I'm like, I visited there?
Mesmerizing place, always something hypnotic about waterfalls, especially large ones, a pleasure to watch 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Thanks so much. Waterfalls can be so majestic. Was really happy to fly my drone around this one!

Would be a really cool winter hike too. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful place!
It is a remarkable area! Have you been able to visit Toketee Falls?
so dangerous.
Thank you for your concern - it's important we don't show unsafe behavior as acceptable. There is plenty of amazing scenery to enjoy along the Oregon coast if we stay alert!
You always take us to such beautiful places. I love these kind of videos. Keep sharing more!!!!
Thank you so much, will do!
I live in prairie city and just watched your strawberry wilderness video. I’ve been to the falls and big strawberry and my brother and I are planning on coming in from the top possibly. We’re just curious on how long of a hike in total y’all did including the slide lakes. Thanks!
Apologies for my slow response. Prairie City is such a cool place, you can probably see Strawberry Mountain everyday! It is 1.3 miles from Strawberry Campground to Strawberry Lake which is where we made base camp. From the lake to Little Strawberry Lake up to Strawberry Mountain and back again was 10.6 miles. And then from the lake to Slide Lake and back was 6.5 miles. So probably 19-20 miles total. Are you thinking about hiking up there sometime soon?
Hi Mr. Zoomdak what? I was curious about your music...so fresh I have never heard of.... Do you produce music by yourself? Are you a classical music composer? You nailed right sounds at the right moment. Anyway, Watson falls is elegant at the first glance, but I had to take it back as I watch your aerial footage. Wow the water force from that height is remarkable. I have been chasing waterfalls for a quite bit. When i see the waterfall right in front of me, I freeze....my eyes are glued at it It gives me goosebumps for that significant water flows from the above...the surrounded by the mist... I thank YOU. Sorry for my belated comment. This vid must be uploaded after I checked your channel.
Thanks so much for your response, and apologies for my delay. Been going through a bit of a depression lately. My dad produces music, plays piano, so I include his music every so often. I recently put up a concert of hikes and his piano if you search "Zoomdak 1 Hour of Cinematic Hiking Videos". But I subscribe to Storyblocks to get music. Thanks for your kind words and feedback. Hope you are feeling okay after that fall near the waterfall!
So amazing!
Thank you!!
