A selection of Jingles from County Sound Radio in the early Nineties. The FM service. WARNING! If you hate repetitiveness then you'll hate this. If however - you love the thought of being machine gunned over and over again with around 12 minutes of a similar jingle selection then this is for you. Straight from tape - so completely raw and unedited - here is a collection of recordings from the early eighties of BBC Radio Sussex. Featuring (with some repetition) a selection of the jingles used and some other odd bits - Like for instance the appearance of "Gatwick" - a portrayal of an elderly gentleman who would "make the tea" and had a few odd adventures (especially with the Woodstain). Radio Mercury Graham Freer's Weather

In the early nineties Graham Freer, the newsreader on Radio Mercury started to "enhance" his morning weather forecasts on the Jon Scragg breakfast show - Going outdoors on nice days etc. Here is a short selection that I was mad enough to record from May 1990. Hopefully it will raise a smile. It always does for me. This was a period when Radio Mercury was at it's best. Pity it didn't last. Apolo...

A brief trip on the 6a bus going from Lancaster bus station until just past "Carlisle Bridge". Recorded in late 2007 on one of Stagecoach Lancaster's horrid sounding Volvo B6's. Partial view 'cos it was a very full bus and you don't want to go waving cameras about then!

Nice to hear Kate Cowan (voiceover in the “Radio Sussex Travelwatch” jingle) and Anna Benstead (in the Top Ten Trip Through Time jingle). They were normally newsreader and presenter respectively.

More cars on the road than there were twenty or so years before when I was there, but that bit of Lancaster is (or at least was) still mostly unchanged. One of the best chippies in Lancaster back then was a short walk from the roundabout, down Prospect Street. I think it's still there, but can't say if they're still as good as they were.

As you may already know, we have launched a crowd funding bid to allow us to re-launch County Sound as a localised online station, we are looking for people to be involved in this exciting project - please have a look at our proposals igg.me/at/countysound/x/19849114. The station will be operated by Independent Local Radio Limited, a not-for-profit social enterprise company.

I used to record this sort of stuff in the 80s mainly from my local Chiltern Radio which is now Heart. But I loved to see which other stations I could receive on FM near St. Albans and BBC Radio Sussex was one of them. I remember that funny little jingle. I miss those days, radio is now so boring and DAB is just no fun.

+Patrick W The old Chiltern AM transmitter 828khz is litterally in a field behind my house. I don't even know what it is used for now. I used to listen to Radio Kent in the evenings around 1984-6 when Rod Lucus? mad DJ with an echo machine was on.

Hi Patrick, You might be able to help us; I work for BBC Sussex, the current incarnation of Radio Sussex, and we're gearing up to celebrate the 30th anniversary of going county wide this coming November, however the master tape of the Sue Manning jinlge package is on the verge of falling apart. We're hoping to trace some original carts from the time, but we'd be very interested in knowing exactly what you've got in the way of jingles? My email address is; davidmiller@bbc.co.uk. Thanks, David.

I used to take this route coming home from school in the 1940s. It was the Circular route that turned round at Torrisholme roundabout to go to Bare where we lived. A Morecambe bus skidded on small frogs at that roundabout , the year 1948 I believe. The P1 Lightning test plane cockpit cover landed in Dallas Rd. Torrisholme in the 1950's the pilot Bee Beaumont landed the plane safely at Warton. I left there in 1950.
