All three brands have great summer styles to protect from the sun! You need a good summer hat to protect from skin cancer. I’ve known a couple of guys that had to have spots removed on and behind their ears because ball caps don’t protect these places.

Air shows are the best 🛩️✈️
Those pilots are excellent at their jobs!
Enjoy Kris. My sister is in Florida about 40 minutes from Tampa on the west coast. Hats are a must in the sun. I bought a real nice Panama while I was in San Juan Puerto Rico I’ll be wearing the daylights out of it this summer up here in the Northeast.
I tell you,John, I’ve come to really enjoy the summer straws. They really help with the Florida sun!
Have a fun grilling and eating
Thank you!
Great videos. love your hats where do you buy them at
Thank you! I get them different places. hatsdirect.com/collections/the-akubra-range-1 shop.advintage.de/en/Harrison-Fedora-hat/ instagram.com/brokenskullhatco?igsh=MTRrcnl0eWx4aDl0cg==
I take my hat off for one thing and one thing only. - The Bandit
Got that right!
Where did you get the hat?
It’s the Federation IV from The Hattery (Hats Direct) hatsdirect.com/collections/the-akubra-range-1
Ready…. Hip-pop!😂
so why does somebody else need to do it for me?
0:24 you know, I’ve never thought that hat was 2-3/4 front back… or even 2-5/8 in the sides… I think that hat had to be wider than that… had to be closer to three. I’m thinking at least 2-7/8 front and back and 2-3/4 sides. I see the hats in all the other movies (in most of the scenes) as shorter than this, but I think in Raiders it was longer than what we have been thinking it was. The hat at the shot in 0:24 just looks closer to three inches to me…. I’ve always thought that at least in some scenes the hat brim dimensions were longer. What are your thoughts? 👍
You know, that very well could be that the brim is overall wider in Raiders. I’ve heard from a couple of places that the brim (or brims since they had more than one) was actually hand cut down after purchase; the inference being with scissors. Whether that’s true, I don’t know. I’ve also heard that they had several hats of varying brim sizes for lighting purposes while filming Last Crusade. That doesn’t look to be the case with Raiders because the hat really looks similar throughout the film. Thank you for this!
Great video. I wish the straw Akubra's were still easily available. Like the Florentine too. Andover is its other name?
Thank you! Yes, Andover! I knew that I was forgetting something 🤣 Thanks!
I'm still on the hunt for a perfect Summer straw hat. I have an Akubra straw offering (that was unfortunately eaten by the conveyor belt in the security line at Hartsfield here in Atlanta). And I've got one of those Amazon hats too - but it's a bit too heavy. I'd actually like to find more of a cowboy hat that's straw. I've tried a version of the Open Road hat but it wasn't quite right. Oh well, the journey continues...
Ouch about your Akubra! I’ve often thought about a straw Stratoliner. Those look nice. If Akubra were to come out with a straw Campdraft or Federation, that would be great. Good to hear from you!
@@HatLifeAdventures If you happen to remember, Penman came out with a version of the Indy hat that was a fusion of felt and straw. He meant it to be a Summer Indy hat - not sure how that one worked out but it was a valiant effort.
I did not know that!
@@HatLifeAdventures From the website it looks like the style has changed, but he still offers a straw/felt hybrid. I liked the old style better - it was closer to the Raiders style.
Cool straw hats ... I have a Stetson panama hat ... works great in the sun, but I also love my Akubra "Leisure Time" in the summer (Color: Light Sand). New hat from KTG ... super cool ... can't wait to see it. A green Skypiece from Kevin is on my list ... 😊 Regards from Austria 🇦🇹✌🤠
Thank you! The mist grey Skypiece keeps calling my name 😅 as does a green Leisure Time! Too many great hats and not enough money 🤣 Great to hear from you!
Love summer straws! Thanks Kris. Your girls are adorable. Even your pup even made a cameo 🐕🦺🦴
Thanks, John! Yeah, the only two missing from the video is my wife and cat!🤣
You’re very creative!
Thank you!
Use inches and divide it by Pi. That is your hat chart size. So if you are 22 inches around 22/3.14159 = 7.00 so 7 is your hat size.
Thank you!

I love the brim shape on that fedora!
Thank you!
Thanks for this versus. I buy my first fedora of Cotswold. I hope in future pay for one HJ.
Awesome! I think that you’re really going to enjoy it!
Thank you for the extremely informative video. I've never shaped a hat before & your guide was perfect. I've successfully shaped my fedora thanks to your excellent information. Thank you. Dr. Paul R.
Thank you so much for letting me know! I’m happy to help! Congratulations on your new hat! Kris
Thank you for your kind reply, and once again, thank you for your wonderful & informative video. Dr. Paul R. Manchester, England.
First one! Always here.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks for your reviews, I was able to discover the Cotswold. This is my first fedora and it saved me from buying the Dorfman Pacific.
My pleasure to help! The Cotswold is a great hat, especially for the price!
So funny!
Happy you liked it!
@@HatLifeAdventures I really love your videos! also, I am the same person as the person that asked about the polyester molding in your Indiana jones shaping short.
Oh, awesome! Unfortunately, I really don’t know much about polyester hats, I’m afraid. My experience is with fur and wool felt.
@@HatLifeAdventuresit’s okay! 👌 I was just telling you I am the same person.🤗
How much time did you leave the hat on the steam? And how many time should i put it on the steam if the material is polyester? Also, i already did that, but every time i try to shape it, i press it so it shapes, but as soon as i stop putting pressure on it it comes back to its normal form, how do you make it stay there?
This method works for fur and wool felt and some straw hats. Unfortunately, I don’t know much about polyester. Here is a link to the full video: Shaping an Indiana Jones Hat: Federation IV Deluxe czcams.com/video/pfhgVWpehqA/video.html Hope this helps!
Thanks a lot! You're really useful! Is also satisfying how the hat gets shaped, if I tried to, nothing would happen, it would just come back!😂
I think it didn't stay when I shaped it because it's not a round crown, it was already shaped, but, if I buy a fedora with a round crown it could work, right?
Yes, a wool or fur felt hat that is sold as “open crowned” (round crown) is the best sort of hat for this process. A hat that is shaped by a mold under lots of heat and pressure is very difficult to reshape. Great question, thank you!
Thank you so much!☺️ 🙏
I have a question where do you get the hero jr hat??

@@HatLifeAdventures omg thank you so much also your videos are amazing
Thank you so much for watching!
Hi there! I got my Akubra Federation IV a couple of weeks ago and I have found myself using more my AdVintage. Something is off in the Akubra and I don't know what. I ordered a 60, and having a 59,3cm of head, the hat feels massive. I am using foam but the Crown looks TOO BIG, looks like the Hat was close to 61cm in size than the 60 that I asked for (and what the label says). The brim is shorter than the AdVintage and also the color is too dark for an Indy hat instead of a Sable color of the AdVintage (IMHO). I have tried to shrink the sweatband using water and blowing it with a Hair Dryer, same for the crown, but got no results. Do you have any tip? Just by wearing the hat will it shrink both the sweatband and crown to a true 60? Seriously, I can't believe that a 60 looks so big on me. My AdVintage is a 59 and I had to stretch it because my head hurt when wearing it, so can't understand this massive difference in sizes. Thank you so much for your videos and your time. Greetings!
Yeah, it’ll start off big, but by wearing it and sweating, the sweat band will definitely shrink to your size. It’ll take some time for it to form to you, but it will be worth it!
@@HatLifeAdventures Thank you so much for the reply!
My pleasure! All of my Fed IV hats were really big on me at first, too. They will come down a bit. I also don’t shape my hats exactly like Indy’s. I have to shape them to match my face. The top center dent and side dents are all a little deeper.
Americans should be proud and represent this magnificent flag.
I totally agree!
Great video thank you
Thank you!
A big yes to an Indy group and will add your FB hat group
Awesome! Thank you!
I really enjoy these comparison videos. Very informative. Btw, my Hero Jr. is on its way. Thinking about trying the Turn on it.
Thank you! I think this hat would look great with a turn.
Yep - great idea!

when i made the comment about the grand union flag i wrote/said america would be more united if more knew about it. i believe if people outside taunton knew about the liberty and union flag america would be more united knowing about that. also i share info about it like w/. my grand union flag.
I agree completely! If people knew more about our history, they would be proud to be descendants of folks who overcame great obstacles so that we could have it so good today.
Thanks to you I just acquired one. $39!!!
That is a steal, my friend! Congratulations!
Great comparison of two cool hats! 🤠✌
Thank you!
Another great video Kris👍🤠
Thanks, John!
Another great video!! Thank you!!
Thanks, Troy!
Good work on the shaping of the brim - almost looks like it's been flanged which I'm wondering if the pre-shaped hats come with.
Thank you! It was definitely fun to work on. I think that the shaped version does include brim work.
Great hat Kris! Vintage is fragile for sure. Wear it well and enjoy.👍
Thanks, John! Must be very careful!
I got the 1940s or 50s Stetson Homburg
That’s awesome!
Super old but suuuuper COOL! Awesome hat and it fit's you perfect! 🤠👍 Regards from Austria! 🇦🇹🍻 p.S.: And Kevin is such a great guy! 🫡
Thank you, so much! Kevin is a great guy! Great to hear from you!
Looks a little like the Stetson Saxon my grand father wore.. It was a relatively narrow brimmed thin felt rabbit fur hat. If the felt is relatively thin, the brim won't handle rain or snow very well. That is a great find. Mild envy from the likes of me. :)
Thank you! Yes, this will definitely be a nice weather, casual wear piece. I’m in the process of trying to find out a little more information about the store that it came from.
@@HatLifeAdventures I almost bought a Stetson Saxon recently just because it was my grandfather's favourite hat. Then I learned how easily the brim will warp in a bit of rain or even high humidity, . Living in a city in a temperate rain forest, I got an Akubra instead. I am hoping the Selentino Sterling will not have that issue. I like Akubra but do not plan to collect them. Three is enough, for a while.
I’m rapidly running out of room, myself!
Hey I live in Rogersville Alabama not far from Florence great hat I’ve got a great hat I got from Kevin on hats and guitars
Hey, neighbor! What hat did you get from Kevin? Thank you for watching and sharing! Kris
I heard you mention that you’re from Alabama in an earlier video. What part of Alabama? I live in Russellville.
Hey, neighbor! We’re close to Birmingham. About 45 minutes away. Thanks for watching! Kris
I like the look of that narrow brim hat. Would you mind terribly taking two measurements and send a reply? BRIM WIDTH and CROWN HEIGHT. Thanks.
Yes! 1-3/4” brim and a 4-1/2” open crown. The center dent is between 4 and 4-14”.
