  • Shining a brass web belt buckle using steel wool and lighter fluid.
Note: if your buckle is brass plated and not solid brass, this might damage the finish. If it’s solid brass, a magnet will not stick to it.
The buckle I’m using here is brass plated.

I was afraid that rubbing the steel wool on the brass buckle would cause friction and maybe ignite the lighter fluid... no? LOL

🤣that would have been some fun special effects! No, no flames. When using the lighter fluid, I think I remember that you just need a cloth to shine it. That’s when I was shining my Zippo.

I wonder how soaking it in distilled vinegar would work. Also if you are into doing reloads for ammo, the same cleaner you use on the empty brass would work well. You can also use a brass tumbler. That’ll really make it shine.

That’s a good idea. I found out this method by over filling my tarnished zippo and wiping off the excess fluid. The lighter looked like new. Cheap and easy. I’ll probably pop up with some condition years from now that a doctor will attribute to it 🤣

Yeah salt is a nightmare for clothes all the time. Funny thing is, in my area during the winter they spray some salty piss all over the road to protect it from ice(works pretty bad) so anytime I come home after the walk my boots got white stains and become crusty like breakfast cereals. Needless to say boots doesn't live longer than one season even if I try to protect them with shoe chemicals

You know, I never really thought about salt treating clothes so badly. I know that it wreaks havoc on automobiles. Now I’m really thankful that we don’t get much snow or ice here!
