My lord I have no clue what going on in some of my beds. People think it’s compost but then I have say 2 plants next to each other in the same bed and one if great one is crap. And not good crap 😂. Hope they recover Darren it’s already been a bull shit season for so many. Cheers, Ali 🌞🇨🇦

i have a major problem with todays composts. there's very many gardeners think one compost does for all. that's not the case. i've gone back to basics, based on john innes compost. one element missing is grit or sharp sand in the mix. ok, coconut coir helps to replace peat but holds on to water for too long, eventually helping to rot the roots of young plants. by adding sharp sand to the mix helped a lot. you might also benefit by adding sharp sand to your planting areas.................brian

i never do very well with aubergines. probably because i'm in and out of hospital like a yoyo and my wife doesn't know how to water up properly. mt variety is black beauty................brian

Crazy weather today 😬

No chillis here yet in central Scotland, still cold , temp. being hovering around 12/13 c for weeks now and rainy.( barrel full) Did have greenfly on my bell pepper plants which have a few fruits, made up a garlic spray and it worked a treat. Looks like there will be no summer this year , the later it arrives the shorter it will be

i had the same problem with a tomato plant. growing blind at the tip. i just let a side shoot for a new leader. i started my peppers off in october last year. everything was going brilliantly til i had to go to hospital. my wife doesn't know how to water, and i lost the lot..............brian

i'm not too happy with my tomato plants this year. they're flowering too high up the stem for my liking. my idea was for 3 trusses to ripen. take side shoots and hope the rest of the season is kind to me..................brian

my garden is a sun trap. the first leeks i put in large pots were baked, so i'm putting some in smaller pots to grow on in the shade. i don't bother with the old system of dibbing holes, plonking the leeks in then watering. too difficult for me now, anyway..................brian

I,m growing De Cayenne chillies this year, mine are about 12 inch high but almost lost them early on when I watered them with water directly from the water butt, they suffered from the cold water and went in to shock. A quick re water with warm water from the tap saved the day. So now I only water them from a watering can thats sitting in the greenhouse and had time to warm up, the chillies seem very heat sensitive.

i consider bolting to be good. not only for free seed but they also attract predators in the garden when in flower. marvel of 4 seasons and little gem cos are good varieties to try...................brian

My best lettuce was just direct sown Darren. It of course I put them too thick 🤦‍♀️ so I’ll do next time a bit thinner. It’s probably getting too hot here now 🥵 30c today (one extreme to another) what lovely flower head and seed 🎉🎉. Happy growing, Ali 🌞🇨🇦

Lettuce don't germinate well in warmer temperatures, Lettuce need organic matter and nitrogen. All leafy vegetables need nitrogen. Achito from King's seeds, red/green little gem, romain all varieties

mine are still in doors at home & dowein the same thing

i don't leave my plants standing in water, darren, specially during cool weather. it does a plants roots to experience compost drying out before the next watering session. never overfeed young plants..............brian

I put my courgette and Pumpkins out a few weeks ago and they have done next to nothing, no heat plenty of rain and slugs, perhaps they would have been better potted on

last year i had most plants out by mid may. this year, even though we've not had much in late frosts, it's still been considerably in comparison................brian

You are correct in putting the corn close together. They help support each other and pollinate better.

Corn looks amazing Darren. My beet has leaf miner as does my chard 😢😢. I am hoping to get seed too I’m sick of laying insane prices. On the farms here they are always right next to each other so I’m sure they’ll be fine. 😂😂 someone just said my shallots aren’t shallots because I harvested narrow and they look like leeks 🤦‍♀️ if I could I’d post the picture of the packaging. I have a tomato growing out of the side of my dhalek best one so far 😅😅.
