Two points to mention. 1. The quick-shifter works well when you use it properly - I see other comments mentioning how to let it do its job, it's not for changing gears to slow the motor when cruising. 2. The suspension is fine. It differs from what you may be accustomed to due to the design, but it is not as you suggest.
63 ride a 08 FJR YAMAHA 1300 she handles like a dream n plenty Fast enough with around 137 hp it is getting a little heavy when I gotta pick her up lmao cause its gonna hurt to let her go but down sizing soon.Ride on Old Guys ;)€
60 n 3 years ago bought an MV Dragster RR, love it, comfy riding position, much like the speed triple and a great country lane scratcher. The MV is by no means a tourer, so gonna buy an 800 Adventure bike for me n the missus to tour Philippines. Will take a look at the 900 Rally tho but will keep the MV for the mountain road early morning coffee blasts.
You also have to consider the width of the seat as well as the padding and let’s not forget your inside leg measurements. I’m also seventy years old and stuck with a heavy bike zzr 1200.
Thanks, nice video! My 2014 CB (Which I bought new) has 22,000 miles. I’ve checked valve clearances twice and virtually no change. Unless I hear a noise or something, I’m not going to check them again. The chain, which I clean and lube regularly with 80w gear oil, hasn’t gone through half its allowable stretch. I plan on replacing chain and sprockets in the near future just because they’re 9 yrs old. Three times I’ve removed the wheels to have tires mounted at my local dealer. Metzler’s are my go-to now with great grip and wear. The bike’s never been in the dealer for maintenance.
In some cases, its not that we’re buying the wrong bike, its that we already own the wrong bike for our age, I’m 69 and own a ZXR400, A bike that I’ve owned now for the last thirteen years, and to be honest I can’t afford an alternative, I have had to lower the pegs a bit to make it more comfortable, having said that, it’s not too bad and I can ride the bike for a couple of hours at a time without any issues.
Sold my big Yamaha Super Tenere for a BMW F750GS and shed over 120 lbs. Still heavy but about as light as any two-up machine. My 2004 Multistrada is even lighter yet. Both have great riding triangles w plenty of power.
How does the rally have 60mm more suspension travel yet the seat is only 40mm higher.
It was only 40mm higher for the rally pro because the seat was in the higher position.
I am almost 80 years old. Most important, if you ignore comfort, is weight, low seat height and good throttle response. This is because low handling is the first skill to go.
just buy a second hand VFR800 and stop waffeling
Mate - stop waffling and girly gigglin' ......
@@stewarthunter8793 ok Stewart 😬 🤣. Sorry, can’t help it.
Getting a trident 660 delivered in two days, it will be my first bike, I was skeptical about this as I thought we would need an app and what not, plus aftermarket is so cheap compared to OEM but seeing this helped me, it's actually so neat as it is installed inside the tyre, (funny thing, people tend to steal the external tpms if you leave your bike in an open parking lot where I live) and it shows the readings on the TFT which is really convenient. Seems worth adding on now as I already added Heated grips, scrolling indicators and quick shifter. Thanks for the vid
@@AAKEngine Glad it helped and congratulations on the new bike. I had a Trident while the Daytona was being serviced and it has a great seating position. Enjoy! 😊
I think not existing and being merely imaginary is way worse than being fired. My heart is with them. 🙂
At 62,and with degenerative osteoarthritis,I wouldn't change my Suzuki GSXR 1000 K2 for any other bike, especially not a mid-size adventure bike!.
Nice bit of "traction" going on there darkknight :-)
Good stuff as usual!!
Appreciate it!
Wow I'm glad I let the dealer install these for me.
Yes, bit of an arse :-)
Everyones arguing when all you need is a proper spring. If you want air ride then a tractive setup is where its at
Not an air ride necessarily, just better and with more control, like some other bikes I have ridden.
Im from Middle German (Sachsen- Anhalt) and this Very nice and Economy Bike is my First Motorcycle in my live. I ❤IT.😊 Thank u for your Video.
Congratulations on the the new bike! It is a great value comfortable machine, enjoy!
same manual settings front and rear for all years or what being advertised on the 2022 30th year aniv. model ? says added front/rear suspension. Sure the dealers here don't know !
The front suspension on the EX got a change for the 2017 model year to the Dual Bending Valve Showa Unit. It is very good with the transition between low speed and high speed damping control.
preload; agree; the spring is the same; just lessening the travel to give less bounce as its already compressed; some.
Both ends of the shock can move so changing the preload doesn't actually compress the spring, it just changes where the shock is in its stroke. The only way you are reducing for less bounce with less preload is to blow through the stroke and bottom out. That would not be a wise choice though.
2022 says front and rear suspension; Does that mean 2021 has no setup; no manual changes . ? quitevague on what 2022 is giving you. this vdo says nothing about the year; either !
2017 model years, and on, for the EX have the same setup, preload front and rear only.
A very full and personal view of the 1250GS. I listen to your criticism of the bike but have to ask why then why does it continue to be one of the top selling bikes? The new 1300 is going to be an amazing improvement but the 1250 remains so many rider’s choice. Just think you have been overly critical. But as they say. “Opinions are like noses, everyone has one”
Yes, I guess opinions are based on where you have come from too. Had I got on this bike from a Suzuki SV650 I would be marvelling. But I came from a Tiger 1200 with WP suspension and nine levels of user damping in every rider mode. Moving to a bike with limited user suspension control and poor high speed damping (which by its very nature only effects a rider on certain types of roads) took me aback. It is good to see the new 1300 has a lot more input from the user when it comes to damping. I still have the bike, it still has many positive attributes that I like. Cheers jcc6664
Had to stop watching your VLOG half way through - too painful. Was thinking the whole time; why did this guy spend good coin on a new bike then proceed to tear it down for a different one from the same stable that he could easily have test ridden at the time of purchase. I have no loyalty to either bike, just can’t understand some people’s buying decisions. 😊
At time of purchase I had completely discounted the XR as too "Sporty" and never test rode it, had I I would of known better. However, it was a decision I made and I don't look back in super regret, it's the road I took at the time so I will just have to live with my decision. It won't kill me to ride a GS, I'm still very fortunate. Cheers.
@@terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff Fair enough. I guess we all should have a stable of bikes to meet our different needs at the time - but few can afford that; right? Ride safe.
Great review.

gave up on it several times, good aul Garmin at eye level…Cardo & GoPro manually operated….Phone buried in pocket🤣 even bigger screen on Tiger is obscured when a tank bag is fitted, so an unnecessary addition for me Terry. Another great review mate👍

Hi. Do you have access to the service manual? Im finding it hard to remove the black plastic cover for the coolant reservoir/overflow tank. I have installed the TSA quick shifter for the Daytona660 but I am unable to plug in the connector behind the coolant reservoir/overflow tank.
You can subscribe to the service manuals here for instant access. It’s very cheap and you can cancel your subscription at anytime. triumphtechnicalinformation.com/
@@terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff Thanks. Im hoping you can show me how to remove the coolant overflow tank. Subscription is expensive if I’ll be just removing the coolant overflow tank. 😬
Misc thoughts; Mirrors; the stalks dont have detents like my Honda and Kawasaki. At 100mph they begin to roll back to me. Felt plenty tight, but. . . Gearing; that motor has SO MUCH pull, I may swap 15T sprocket with 16T from 660 siblings for lower consumption while touring/cruising. Use 3, 4, 5 for thrashing, and easy access with quickshifter (still waiting here in USA for fitting kit). Shift lever; feels vague compared to my Japanese bikes. Considering the RACETORX shift shaft support they sell for the Trident. Any experience with that company/product? Reducing the cantilevered length of shift shaft should certainly reduce lever deflection and increase feel/response, but what if dims aren't "perfect" and it imparts additional unwanted loading? Triumph warranty won't cover race parts, I'm sure! Great review video. Thanks again for sharing your experience in this series.
Ditto on the mirrors, it has happened to me a few times now. Tooth swap could be good for touring but download the user manual for the Daytona 660/Trident/Sport, it is all the one. They have the drive ratios listed for all three bikes, makes a good comparison. Yes, my little video on the Quick-Shifter highlights the range of movement too, a good 45-50 degrees between fully down/up, that is some travel. Thanks for your thoughts but sorry no experience with RACETORX.
Rear preload; I find the steps for rear preload to be too large. Stock setting has bike dragging it's arse like a dog with worms. Just two positions more and I'm arse up like a supersport, and there are 4 more positions above that! I've settled on 1 step up from stock/full soft (position 2) and since I really desire vehicle rake half-way between positions 2 and 3, I may experiment with sliding fork tubes up in the yokes. Or, I will just buy an aftermarket shock with threaded collars so I can set it properly instead of the current compromise for my goals and 205 lb weight.
Yes, it is not very granular is it? I fancy a Wilbers, a basic adjustline would do. I fitted one to my Daytona 1200 and it is superb.
Great video; loved hearing your laughter with that triple soundtrack as you snick through the gears. Versatile machine, which is exactly what I was wanting. It IS rather difficult to explain the importance of suspension settings to folk! Sorry you were laughed at. 😅
I have thick skin! :-)
Terry I have it on my Tiger and my Speed Triple RR. To me it's just a third party thing. My Cardo's are already connected to my phone just to tweak the settings on them and I use a real GPS for navigation. My phone is off and away when I ride anyway. To me it's just not needed.
Yes, it does a lot of things you don't need it to do :-)
Great review as always
Thankyou Sir!
It's a fine video, and a fine motorbike. I considered this bike a couple of years ago. I compared the specs to the '92-'03 Honda CB750 Nighthawk. At 5'4" and 185 lb I found that other than cosmetics, size and weight, they were very similar in function and real world street performance. If you're about 5'10" or less, want to spend 1/3 as much, and want a 50 lb lighter UJM, consider the old Nighthawk 750cc.
@@papatorr3669 the nighthawk gets lots of mentions in the US centric CB1100 forum, I suspect for all the reasons you just mentioned 👍.
@@terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff Honored by your reply. I am a Nighthawk fan having owned two NH700S, three NH650SC, and four NH750. My keeper NH750, an '03, has less than 10k miles, a Rifle fairing, GIVI bags and trunk. Geared taller to run 3,950 RPM at an indicated 65 MPH (~60 GPS). I'm selling my '96 NH750 with 4 into 1, geared lower as a fun bike, and keeping the Hornet 919 as a funner bike. I had the Bandit 1200S, and have a 1rst Gen FZ1 so I, too enjoy faster bikes, but the "Touring" Nighthawk 750 stays. Ride safe my friend.
@@terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff And another thing! The British/Australian centric CB750 (Nighthawk cousin) is a half a dozen ways better than the US centric model! Find me one and help me ship it to the US! 😁
Do you think having the dealer do the first service was worth it? Ive checked several dealers here in the US and they are charging a crazy amount ( in my opinion ). Curious if others are having same issues
@@busterbrown087 We know it’s a lightweight service and can be done easy enough (I service two other bikes myself) but I think a dealer relationship is becoming increasingly important for forging a relationship should things go wrong with ever more complex bikes. A potential half way house could be buying the Triumph service pack from the dealer (if they are out yet) and keeping a record of the purchase. My dealer first service price was reasonable but I won’t be fleeced and would do it myself if needed. Just keep a full record of the oil/filter etc.
would the tridents frame sliders fit on daytona 660?
I suspect they would foul the fairing.
Great video 😂👍 I'm exactly in the same position choosing my new bike. I tried to decide between the new 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro and new 2024 Africa Twin Adventure Sport with 19" front wheel. I like both of them but can't I decide. Tiger will be €2.5K cheaper slightly more power but less torque, and lighter. On the or side ATAS has nice electronic suspension, smaller front wheel from this year and car play. What will be your suggestion? I'm most of the time solo rider., and love riding along Wicklow mountains, where the roads are very bumpy. Also I have plan to take the new bike on the trip around the Ireland, love the Atlantic way.
I had the 2016 1000cc Africa Twin and although it had many good attributes, I only kept it 18 months. I wish I had the 19" option then, that would of helped. I found the clutch heavy and the seat awful. No doubt the new Africa Twins are different beast now. I prefer the Tiger 900, the Rally is a good looker too and I think they have a bit more character. Triumph do have a great reputation for comfort in the Tiger 900's too. As for the Car Play etc on the Honda I'm not too sure many motorcyclists demand or use it that much so that wouldn't draw me. I think you really have to test ride them to get a feel. I know it is easy to get a test ride of the Triumph, I'm sure the Africa Twin shouldn't be too hard too. I have a bunch of videos on the Tiger 900's on my channel, I love their (manual) suspension. WAW is brilliant, hard to beat. Fun times choosing, enjoy!
Thank you.
Hi Terence! Have you looked into getting a bigger windscreen on your Daytona? I think this is my only gripe with my Daytona, that I'd like a bit more wind protection, but I haven't found any.
I added the extra windscreen lip and tried a lot of positions, it just pushed air off the chest into the helmet making it worse I'm afraid. That's that experiment tried! I drop a short video on it in a few days.
Terry Fantastic video Sir! I am glad you are having so much fun on the Daytona 660. Splendid! Ride SAFE and BE safe Sir! 👍👍

@@geoffreyshaw8856 thanking you.
I found your channel, because I’m looking for that Daytona 660 as my second bike after gsx 8S I love it but I want little bit more power and more wind protection, it looks like you have a lot of experience on different bikes, I want to ask should I buy Daytona 660 or go with street triple R or MT09 because they all in almost same price
@@aleksandrkorovin1524 I would have thought the MT09 was a little dearer again but is a fine well liked bike. The 765R offers an awful lot more for very little extra, six axis IMU’s, adjustable suspension, 120HP and more. Neither offer the full fairing though and the Daytona is designed as a simple uncomplicated offering that provides sports bike looks at a reasonable price. Insurance costs likely to be better on the Daytona too. I would do your best to get a test ride on your choices if you can. Happy hunting!
Enjoyed the video and you made some fair points but can’t agree about the suspension at all sorry !
And you don't have to of course 😃. It's all about whether you have had better on a similarly priced bike. I found the WP suspension on my Triumph Tiger 1200 much better, less crashy and adjustable in nine increments in every rider mode for complete control. A lot of owners who have had both low chassis and regular chassis GS's have also commented that the regular chassis is much better so maybe there is something in that too. Looks like there is more control and adjustment on the later 1300's too which is welcome. Cheers bikemad75!

The XR is the perfect bike to carve the mountain roads of the Picos, Pyrenees or Alps for a weeklong tour at 50 degree lean angles. The best competition comes from Ducati with the Multistrada family. If you don't have some hooligan in you, stick with the GS, which makes you more comfortably numb. The XR probably makes little sense in a crowded, dark, cold, foggy, wet and dismal place like Britain. Rent the XR when going to the continent. I come from the US and my band of lunatics does a moto tour in Europe ever year or two. We are about evenly split between BMW and Ducati for our rental preference. We've learned to pay particular attention to the newness of the tires before accepting a rental given that the XR's (default) tires are softer and sportier and the bike is ridden such. We've done both guided tours (Edelweiss) and our own (Hertz) with success. The 2024 XR appears to have some notable improvement, especially with the more traditional seat shape that allows you to hang off a bit when the spirit moves you. The +5 HP is always welcome even if minimal. The vibration never bothered me before, so improvements there probably won't be noticed. Relative to the GS, I prefer the XR's paniers and top box due to their lighter weight and sleeker design. I got grooves in my hands carrying the GS versions into the hotel when the XR wasn't available.
@@bernhtp Thanks for the detailed summary of your experiences with the XR, that makes perfect sense and good info for prospective buyers. Cheers fella 👍
