here it is! the reason why ive been gone for far too long. an official made by me in its entirety video i made for my final year of university! (ill get to that disco elysium and ofmd video, because of course i will)
was it a tad insane to try create 95%* of an animated short film all by myself in the span of 3 months? YES! i was booboo the fool all along. was it worth it? IM NOT SURE! you tell me. i hope you enjoy this. i poured a lot of soul, mediocre animation skills and a joyous love for backgrounds into this. so i hope you do.
(*95% because my spine and arm decided to nerf me and i inevitably had to ask some friends to help color some shots. shoutout to my lovelies enky and amy, i love you both IMMENSELYand speaking of friends, i dedicate this film to my parents, who let me run off to another continent to make pictures for school, to my spread squad, the backbone of my life and the greatest friends i could ask for, to my twin, to my wifey, to kiwi.)
on the name. i played disco elysium recently and anybody who has an out of the box brain like mine might notice that the name has a similar cadence to one "tequila sunset". that is 100% intentional. i had also watched licorice pizza (don't know if im a pta fan yet but we shall see) and i thought an incongruent mashup name was cute.
these are characters from a terribly coded and decently illustrated/soundscaped visual novel that i have yet to properly release into the throes of itch.io, but i might pop on a trailer here at some point if anyones interested. the story was about the end of the world and how miserable/accepting/hopeful/angry everyone was about it, told through an irreverent wes anderson style humor and somewhat questionably utilized 4:3 aspect ratio.
these guys, mart (short for martin, yes, thats, a magnus archives reference im terrible) and abby (short for. abigail. wOAh) were part of the last story, "hotdogs". they're two silly teenagers (my blorbos) that aren't quite ready to die just yet, and the visual novel ends with them so... desperately sad that their time was cut short.
i didn't like that very much.
so i refracted their story through some stained glass (stained maybe with mustard and ketchup). they still die at the end, but it's not without a fight. i believe in radical optimism, however naive that is. but like, i don't know, if disco elysium and wolf 359 and the unsleeping city and so much more have taught me anything: the lone dicemaker continues to contentedly create in the doomed commercial area. minkowski is in charge of this disaster. it is what it could be.
that's why abby puts the music on and keeps dancing despite knowing what's coming. for mart. and that's why mart indulges her despite how they feel. for abby.
the world has kindness in it.
