Welcome to my channel where I show you all kinds of DIY projects. Come along to be inspired, perhaps pick up some tips & tricks or just be entertained! đ
Many of my projects happens in my garage. It's a multi-purpose garage as it is my workshop and my CZcams studio. Many of my projects are actually me improving my garage. It will also be a lot of motorcycle fixer-upper videos for a while, since I have several bikes lined up.

Preparing for the First Adventure - Fixing the Elefant - Episode #9
zhlĂ©dnutĂ 6KPĆed 21 hodinou
My Cagiva 750 Elefant is almost ready to be used for a motorcycle adventure trip. Almost. Can I manage to get it done in a few days? By only doing the most critical fixes, and skip testing and quality control it might go. Risky? Well, there is just no time to make sure everything is OK, the trip itself will have to be the test, if I even can manage to get it done in time. This video is part of ...

The fuel lines was not installed as they should have been on my motorcycle. It's from 1990 so it's no injection here, it has good old fashioned carburettors đ The way the fuel is transported from the tank to the engine on my bike si exactly the same as any motorcycle with similar setutp using carburettors. My Cagiva 750 Elefant has a Ducati engine. It's leaking oil, suitable to fix togheter with oil change and timing belts replacements. The timing belts are actually sux years old, should have been replaced four years ago. I have also bought a new dB-killer to the muffler, so it will be new sound / noise test as well. Hopefully it sounds a bit better than the last try. This video is part of a vide...
Brake Bleeding Tips and more - Fixing the Elefant - Episode #5

Zinc Plating Problems - Fixing the Elefant - Episode #3
zhlĂ©dnutĂ 1,6KPĆed 2 mÄsĂci
I am fixing my rare Cagiva 750 Elefant adventure motorcycle. Cagiva is a brand that no longer exists, finding parts to this bike is not easy. Because of this I decided to reuse the old rusted fasteners for the rear wheel and rear brakes, and the way to go for a DIY'er is to zinc plate the parts to add rust protection. The zinc plating did turn out OK, but it was not as easy as I hoped for. The ...

The thumbnail picture might reveal what I hate the most on a motorcycle. It's somthing thats not a problem with a new bike, but on an older bike though like mine this is a very common problem. This is the first episode in a series where I prepare my adventure motorcycle for the season. I have promised to go on a roadtrip together with my friend @tshansen - can I get my bike ready in time? One of most important issues is fixing the exhaust. Since I have bought a Cagive 750 Elefant from 1990, it's not that easy to fix it. Why did you go away from the mono shock?
I have never planned a mono shock on this build, and it's not a typical cafe racer thing - although it is possible. Bobbers typically use mono shock, but that is quite a different style
very nice, wood scaffolding can be very effective
Thanks đ yes, it works pretty well for a small shed like this
Why would you title a video "Do not build a sound insulated enclosure for your noisy air compressor!" while teach people to build an enclosure? I really don't get you people you have to lie to get people to watch your videos.
Did you see the whole video? It makes sense if you do. đ
Herlig serie du har her. Da slipper du at dekaler ol blir Þdelagt.
Takk for tipset đ Hilsen 'Molling' đ
Great idea, but could you have added an L-bracket to the side of the house on each side to attach the scaffolding to? It's a more permanent solution that could be used as often as you need to get back up there again.
Absolutely possible, but I did not want to have any "trace" of the scaffolding after I was done. Having a lot of sticking out from the wall will not be very pretty đ„Ž
From my experience, there is not many problems with ethanol in gasoline on old carburator bikes if you adjust them, here in Brazil you can't buy any gasoline under 20% of ethanol mixture with the max being 32% now.
I don't really notice any difference when driving it, I am afraid of the ethanol "eating" hoses and gaskets, and it attracts water and can cause condensation over time if the bike is not used for a while
@@kihestad only if you let it parked for more than 2 weeks, also i have a bottle of gasoline here that a bought last year and there is no sign of water inside it. We have a lot of old cars from the age of leaded gasoline (banned in 1989 here) with no damage due to ethanol and we had a lot of these cars converted to run on pure ethanol because it was cheaper and in some states it still is cheaper to run only ethanol. Many old bikes don't have problems beside the need to rejet the carburetor for the proportion, the C Gasoline is now at 32% Max and 20% min ethanol content but good luck finding gasoline with less than 30% ethanol, the premium one in fixed in 25%.
@C0lon0 yes, it is typically winter storage here in the Nordics that cause problems from what I have heard. Because of the cold weather and snow most of the winter we don't use our lawnmowers or motorcycles from October to Mars, and opposite for our snowblower đ„Ž I think you might be right though, most of the times it works out ok, it's just some few that has been unlucky
@@kihestad for winter storage if you don't find pure gasoline, just put water in the gasoline, mix it and wait a few minutes and the ethanol is mixed with the water. Here we don't have problem with storage because we dont have this need, where i live today is 10°C and is winter Sunday is to be lower to -1°C due to the cold front, luckly the floods ended.
The toy (Airbrush type) Compressor IS quieter (mine is) but also basically useless. As it generates insufficient Flows for most ALL airtools. All it really does is waste Shop space, A large part of Compressor noise is from their Air intakes. Fit a decent muffler for Significant noise reduction.
A muffler helps a bit, but not that much. It's not as efficient as building a sound isolated enclosure. It's not only the intake that makes noise, the whole tank acts like a resonator and emits noise. It's much easier just fitting a muffler though, and it does help a bit đ
Great video, beautiful country, thanks for sharing đ
Glad you enjoyed it đ
I can't believe it's been 2 yearsđź
Time flies... đ
@kihestad indeed it does. Please refresh my mind. But why this individual motorcycle?
@@patrick87100 I guess for no particular reason other than it's what I got đ It might be a bit mor special than the average motorcycle you see around. The Italian brand Cagiva no longer exists. You might even call it vintage since adventure motorcycles have not been around for that long
@@kihestad excellent answer. Take care good sir
Always have with you zip ties they save the day
Noted! đ
You clearly gave the bike a great shakedown test. It will soon be better prepared than when it was new.
I guess so. It was a very rough road a couple of kilometers đ„Ž
Looked up hard bags and couldn't find anything specific to Cagiva. The generic ones were a bit pricey, though. Sidenote: I wasn't aware CircleK had stations outside of North America. Hauled fuel 25 years and CircleK was our biggest customer.
I think I'll stick to soft bags, I just like them better. Both how it looks and because they are more flexible in size. It's actually not that long ago we got CirckleK here in Norway. The world is not that big, you find much of the same everywhere đ
Excellent design and nice lines. Pardon me if you mentioned it already in the video, but what model Honda fuel tank did you use? I love that one.
Thanks đ The tank is the original to this bike, it's a Honda CB400N super dream
Lovely journey! The task lists, the little working table, the clean garage. Sure you are not a surgeon? đ Quietly hoping your task list never run out, because I'm enjoying your videosđ€© I've spent many years driving this area, fixing my own bike, the same bike for 16 years now.
Viktig Ă„ fylle tanken med 98 siste to gangene fĂžr vinterlagring for Ă„ hindre kondens.
Anyway Ki what I can tell u and I heard from my fellows italian elefant owners....this bikes had the same problems (for example big vibrations) even when they were new. Also bing carburators are not so good. They works but I know a lot of owner replaced em with "dall'orto". But mostly ducati is famous to have some oil exudation. Me I fixed problem in ducati opening the engine and putting new Ducati silicone gasket, the black one. I spent a lot of money đąđą but now everything is dry. Anyway our elefant are most beautiful â€â€
I accidentally left the tap open overnight, and the carb was very wet underneath. I guess the closing needle needs cleaning or replacing. I thought it was Mikuni carbs on these?
@@kihestad i always close the fuel tap when bike is on the garage. This has been told to me from old cagiva bikers. On elefant 750 87/90 original carburator is bing i think from germany.
Uh i replaced 2 times rev counter, first was broken the second was good but I broke the cable after 40 km. Now I found one but that instruments are a little old plus the light system of speedometer and rev counter are vintage they looks like christmas tree lights.. Some light doesnt works anymore. So I found new one kit but......i have not so much hope in it. So am curious about the solution u will find đ
I am curious myself đ not really sure yet what to do...
@@kihestad the best thing would be to fix the original. But even if u want rev and speedometer they cant be opened easily.
Hi Ki yes also mine with 1 liter she runs 15 km.
I guess that is a fair fuel consumption on a bike of this size
Great video. Love the honesty of your trip and of your repair 'journey' - as usual! Extra thumbs-up for Sivert! <3
Thanks đ Sivert is a great house keeper
Great job! With a âproject bikeâ like this, there is always something to be mended, improved or sorted out. I have indicators similar to the ones you used. They are very weak, as the rubber âmountingâ of the indicator is just glued on to the threaded tube. Mine came adrift like yours did. They really need a nut on each side but on mine the thread was one I couldnât easily get nuts for, and I didnât have the right sized tap to make a nut. I ended up making a spacer/washer from Acetal (âDelrinâ?) and bonded it onto the threaded tube with 2-part epoxy metal glue to take the pressure of the nut on the inside (of the fairing in your case). They now work fine. Keep the old ones as spares - you may well need them one day! Enjoying your videos, thank you. Les in UK đŹđ§
That was smart! Small improvements can help a lot. đ
I do hope it was your aunts 90th's, not you ants... đ
Shit, gotta blame it on the spell-checker đđ€Ł
@@kihestad đ
Breakdowns are just a motorcycles way of telling you to stop and enjoy the scenery đ
Exactly đđ
Great man! Tons of satisfaction riding the bike fixed by yourself!
Absolutely, and hopefully one day it's not breaking down during the trip đ€
I strongly advise you wire your USB sockets to a switched power supply. The things are never waterproof and will certainly drain your battery overnight if left out in the rain.
That sounds like a very good advice đ I'll probably add a relay after the ignition switch and power both the USB and the heated jacket output to it.
I bet that all your gps, tablett, warm jacket were too much for what your regulator could generate and regulator could handle. This generation of fant was not designed for so much voltage output. Hope I am wrong this said and that you had fun during your trip
Luckily that was not a problem. The display on the USB charger showed 13.5V or more when charging, even when the tablet and heated jacket were plugged in đ
Close to the passenger flip-up foot rests you can loop the straps (of the bags) through the aloy grid... of the same foot rests.đ
Yes, plenty of alternatives to mount the straps. Also using the luggage rack behind the seat worked well.
Temporary, the best kind of permanent, i once saw an "temporary" fix made in the 19th century in a house here in my city.
Haha đ yes I know, temporary fixes tends to end up permanent - if it works....
Hi. Great video. Have to see video from your trip. That spoiler alert did make me very very curiousđ What type and brand did you choose on times? I have a Honda XL600 I am looking for a good allround tire on. Great wishes from Innlandet Norway
Thanks đ I recommend you to join the Norwegian OTC group (offroad touring group). Great discounts on Continental tires if you buy from Dekkmann / Best drive. I have Continental TKC 80 on front wheel, and Mitas E07+ on rear. I did not know about the Continental discount when I bought the rear tire, Continental had good solutions there as well, TKC 70 could be a good pick.
When you fit bags the sitting clearance doesn't matter, it's when you are standing and have to move right back and most important when you have to quickly put yout foot on the ground in say a rut at speed, unless of course you are just road riding.
That makes sense. This trip was just asphalt and gravel roads, but I do stand a lot anyway (whenever speed limit is 60 km/h or lower) just to get variation and avoid a hurting back. Thanks for the tips đ
Look forward to hearing more about the trip!!
I am currently editing it, should be ready soon đ It will be a bit different from my regular garage-videos đ
The accent đ Too bears right hair, "ordering two beers to the table" đ€ No offense meant!
No offense taken đ đ€Ł
I remember this bike it was the 1st multistrada efford Ducati motor on an on off bike, thing is that these problem dont have to do with each age...bike was letting you down since day 1
I still have hopes for getting it reliable đ€ Time will show if I can, not looking good so far đ
The manual looks really sweet! Well done ! Maybe put some of the Service/Workshop manual stuff in there as well. I have a full color digital copy of the parts manual in the libretto format as well. It is for the monofaro ('86) but perhaps some of it can make it into your copy. Let me know if you need it. I also have some specs/measurements for the original Hepco & Becker luggage racks but you can look on their website as well. There are protection bars for the front-sides/engine as well.
I would love to check it out đ If you could send it to me on my email? (It's in the video descr)
@@kihestad coming up!
Gonna be great trip dude
Great trip with some hickups đ€Ș
Having the repair manual on the trip. Put extra chapters ... !?
Hehe, I did not plan bringing along the owners manual on trips. It's to be used in the garage when doing planned service / repairs.
That luggage rack u will see.....if u drive fast it will become very very hot due to the exhaust. Atleast with mine is like that. So I drive slowly, better đđżđ
I agree you need the bars
The exhaust muffler is very well insulated, it does not get very hot at all. The side cover is in addition heat protected on the inside. It's no heat problems at all on the bike luckily, but definitely something to take into consideration when using soft bags đ
@@kihestad good work Ki. My luggage rack can become hot only on the exhaust side. Is for the bracket which connect the exhaust to the rack. I should isolate it in some way. But yes soft bag could be ruined. Am curios to see what u invent.. đđżđđżđđ
If you ever decide to upgrade the tablet mount, try Ram Mount products. They have mounts for just about any electronic device on handle bars.
Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely upgrade it, will check it out đ btw: I actually have a ram mount for my cell phone, definitely a quality product.
I'm glad you survived đ hope the problems won't be that bad đđŒ but I can imagine at least 3 things that could go wrong with the elephant đ
I'm glad too đ I have actually added three new tasks to my work list after the trip, perhaps it's exactly ones you could imagine? đłđ
@@kihestad engine, electric cables, breaks ? gimme some clue ;)
hehe, editing on the next video now - you will know in a couple of days đ
Great job đ
Thnx đ
The only reason Im saying this is because I know you hold yourself to a high standard when it comes to the quality of your repairs and I hate to tell you what to do, but.. you should put a ring terminal on the wire going from the positive terminal to the coil relay. In my experience working with old bikes and cars, not using terminals and just twisting wires together (which should be a crime) or bolting down the naked wire works then and there, but never works out in the long run and might lead to intermittent problems (the worst kind..). If the ring terminal is not big enough for the battery bolt, you can make a cut in the ring terminal and widen it. With that said, smart to power the coil directly from the battery! Love your series btw, you really put a lot of effort in it and it shows in the final product!
You are absolutely correct, I did eventually. It was just the first temporary install before I added the USB charging cable. Now it's just too many cables going directly to the battery, it will all be reworked. I want to add more relays as well to be able to power down all circuits with the ignition.
Are they comfortable? Comapred to forma adventure
I have finally got to use them on several small trips and on one longer trip. 10 hour trip last weekend, 1 hour on rough gravel road. I am very satisfied, no problems whatsoever so far. For the cold Nordic climate they are perfect because they are quite warm. They might be too warm if you live in a hot climate. The worries I had about them being a bit stiff is no problem at all. After wearing them for a while they are very comfortable. I don't know about forma adventure, so cannot compare unfortunately.
Hahaha, not exactly a body builder đ The heated jacket is a must have in Norway. There are two kind of riders up here... those who have yet to try a heated jacket, and those who have one đ Great episode Hestad. Just let me say that the heated jacket was a must have in Lofoten. Can't wait to hear how the trip was. đ€đ»
I am already working on the follow-up video, the one from the trip. The heated jacket was just a life saver đ€©đ€©đ€©
If all that wiring works the temptation is to âjust leave itâ, but if there are problems down the line you have to sort it from a spiderâs web of wiring. (I have a similar mess on one of my bikes). Better to do it right a.s.a.p, especially with a big trip coming up, and that means 1. Itâs more reliable and 2. Itâs easier to trace problems if there are any. I enjoy all your stuff, itâs very âReal Worldâ! Thanks. Les in UK đŹđ§
