Be Our Guest...Project Dining Room S1Ep6
Be our guest as we begin work in the dining room.
Starting with some plaster repair, wallpaper, and a fun phone project.
Apologies for the bad audio on this episode.
The current acoustics in the dining room are just awful even with mics.

Greetings from Fairfield and welcome to our first episode! We bought a cheap old house on the internet and have been in our 1896 Victorian Queen Anne for a couple of years now. But we were not really sure where to start with our channel and videos. So here is a little introduction of how we found the house, a quick little walk through and a handful of projects on our plate. On a side note we've...

This is just beautiful! I love the wallpaper! I took piano lessons in that house as a child and feel a connection even though I haven't been in that house for 30 years! Thank you for all your hard work and sharing. I love seeing the transformation and miss my hometown.
I LOVE your house, and this episode is fascinating!
Like the wall paper in the dining room.
Such a beautiful room. Thank you for sharing.
LOVE❤ the burgundy & gold wallpaper! ❤. Phone in the dining room? That was the first movie I thought of.
Love how the dining room turned out! Wall phone was a great touch!👍Looking forward to future projects around the house!
"Hey honey, whatcha doin'?" "That will be another project." LOL! You folks are an absolute joy to watch, listen to, and learn from, as you show us the restoration of your exquisite Barber home! Like many other viewers, I, too, hope to restore a Barber home someday. Your videos are the best as I learn many new things through your labor of love. Thank you for the uploads as always! You guys are the BEST! Keep up the GREAT work and never lose that unique and quirky sense of humor! THANK YOU!!!
I ❤ the dining room wallpaper. It looks great with that beautiful woodwork!
Great way to hide the thermostat, but I wondered, why did you go with antiqued/distressed looking William Morris paper and not new WM paper as it would have been installed in the house? Both of course would look just fine.
@KeiPalace good question as we did look at both. But found that there was just something too new/perfect about it that just seemed off and prefer patina and imperfection over perfection.
the phone would have been a statement look how much money i have I'm important
beautiful home my suburb were i live is called Fairfield
We hid one of the land line phones in our old telephone when we had a land line, so you had to open the bottom to answer the phone. Our old house was in Oak Park, IL. We still have the old phone but now just a wall decoration and something for hubby to bang his head on.
Love the clever idea of hiding the thermostat! Well done! And the wallpaper is beautiful!
I'm glad Iowa has wonderful homes to restore. Like the way you hid the modern thermostat!
I super enjoy your videos! The humor is on point. Also, that red wallpaper is perfect for the space. On a Victorian house tour. The dining room had red wallpaper. Because, and I quote, “red promotes digestion.” Whether that be true or not??? meh. Anyways love the house and cool to see the progress. It gives me the motivation to keep working on my house.
Red does encourage appetite, and speed is yellow, that's why all fast food restaurants are in red and yellow! (or white)
Did you think about lining up the patters horizontally between the rooms so your eye doesn’t “jump” as you go from one room to the next?
@@blaineberkley absolutely
You could actually have one of those phones on each floor and connect them. They will work and you'd have an intercom.
@@WLM596 that is a great idea 💡
@@JamesABeckHouse growing up in East Texas in the 1970s, there was a family who had some of these old phones and did this. It worked 💪
Perfection ❤ Wallpaper choices are perfect and so is the phone!
What a great idea!! and yes "We know" lol 😜
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The dining room is beautiful! I cannot wait to see how the rest turns out. Love it
Love the "Meet me in St. Louis" photo to prove your point!
@lauries6517 CZcams wouldn't let me use the clip which was funnier but still got the point. Glad you caught the reference. Thanks for watching
@@JamesABeckHouse We always wanted to restore an old house, but we have been in this 1978 ranch for 30 years and are still just keeping up with repairs. We go into old houses (100+ years) that are being torn down and rescue doors and trim and anything else salvageable. We give it away or sell some but just want to keep it out of the landfill. The last house had hand hewn two by fours with the bard still on two sides. LOL.
Please show us your DIY's...Love the wall paper!!
@aronleegould6980 will definitely be showing more moving forward since catching up from previous projects before starting the channel
Enjoyed the video! Love that you put William Morris wallpaper through the house. Perfect! The dining room looks wonderful! And the phone is awesome. You definitely wouldn’t want it in the parlor. Looking forward to seeing your future videos. Hope you get some sweet corn soon! My husband drove up from Texas once and bought 200 ears, mostly for friends. A few great corn parties, too. Take care, Jan
The dining room is absolutely beautiful. I love that the woodwork is a lighter shade than what you typically see in older homes. The light fixtures are incredible. Love the old telephone too.
I was thinking about you guys and wondering when you would post another video again and here one shows up. Thanks for sharing 😊
@joycedudzinski9415 thanks for watching
I'm loving your posts. Very educational and humorous. Thanks for sharing. Ken from Indiana
What a beautiful gem of a house! It is refreshing to see people who want to preserve history like you guys are.
So much work but it'll get done. 👍
Beautiful decorations. You put a lot of time and effort in doing all that work and it shows. Thank you for sharing.
What a nice cozy place to read a newspaper and books. You are so fortunate to have found this gem of a house, though I know there is a lot of work to do.
I guess in Iowa you get more snow than we get in Southern Illinois. My routine is to shovel every 2 in of snow when they talk about six or seven inches are coming in. It just hurts my back lifting that heavy wet snow at one go, so this other way works for me.❄️
Nicely done🎃
How are you going to manage to get outside to fix that window? I'm already terrified 😱
@joycedudzinski9415 most of it can be reached from the window in other cases a boom will be brought out in time
Sadly, the tap root is very long, the dandelions are going to come back. On the other hand, you can make dandelion wine. 😉
@joycedudzinski9415 most times the root comes up with it
Thank you for rescuing this beautiful home. ❤
I love your channel, I live just a few miles away in Brighton, Iowa. I’m so glad you are restoring and not destroying like a lot of people do. Keep posting the amazing videos!!!
Stunning display
PROJECT! 🛎️My new favorite channel 🎉
Without anything else said, can you imagine the cost to heat this house???
@@anthonymastrando9299 thanks for watching. It’s less than you might think and cover that in our Top Ten House features episode.
I would be inclined to leave that phone connection in place as it is part of the history of the house and it itself is now something of the past and it's in an out of the way place but in a way makes it quirky, by all means take it off retreat the wood but put it back on. You could also go as far as a small 1970's pedestal table with a dial up phone from that era, just a thought, Cheers.
