Pianist Q&A part 2! Hard questions... Organising my practice, musical instinct, what I've learnt
Very, very beautiful playing Cordelia. I loved the tempo you took it at, especially the 3rd movement where restraint is absolutely required. For me that 3rd movement along with the Liszt Benediction are among a handful of pieces that are the most beautiful things written for the piano. Wonderful playing.
Cordelia, these videos are so inspiring. They just might help me get through the most difficult sections I've yet to conquer. It has taken me 45 years to realize this is the greatest piano piece ever written. Just my opinion. All 3 movements are of sublime beauty. The difficulties are immense especially if you have small to average hands. I love it so. It is so wonderful to experience exceptional pianists like yourself struggle with these difficulties too until you "slay the dragon". :) Thank You Cordelia as I so enjoyed your musical journey.
Shouldn't it be in 10/8 instead of 2/2?
Wonderful touch and inner expression. Bravo for the calm and voluptuous atmosphere. Not sure why tempi vary so wildly.
terrific tutorial, thank you!
Bravo!!!!
Amazing to see all these preparations and all the (very) methodic approach required !!!! It DEFINITELY shows how its NOT for everyone ....!!!! I heard your Schubert and was going to point what I'd do differently .... Now I won't say nothing anymore!!! Lol ...
Congratulations, this one is beautiful !
Beautiful, super clean and energetic interpretation !!! Perfect tempo!!! I loved to be able to hear so much from this performance ...
You have set the gold standard for this piece, so beautiful ! (And I've listened to every online version of Ondine.)
певучесть звука так себе, не хватает все же. басы третьим пальцем тоже удивляют, так ведь хороший звук и не получишь
This is really encouraging
No uniforms on look like straight off the street 😊
I'm so taken with your economy of movement.
Thank you very much, this was very helpful!
The perfect antidote to Horovitz (I"d say that of the repertoire in general and all Cordelia's playing). It's good to hear all the notes, and with no destruction of tone, just beauty.
awesomee
Absolutely underrated channel ❤
That piano is beautiful
這甚重的三角钢琴,三位师傅从楼上搬到楼下真为你们担心,愿你们多多保重,也令人佩服,向你们致敬!
Schubert anticipated the CZcams attention span 😉
😂😭
Lovely playing. Beautiful sound and touch. Brava.
This is music and playing of surpassing beauty!
So delicate, fabulous! ❤️😍🤗🌹💕🥰🌷
I was there. I was enthralled, as were the rest of the audience. I hope Cordelia Williams comes to Turner Sims again soon. or better still, to Freshwater Memorial Hall, on the Isle of Wight. They have a great Steinway 🙂. She might even play Mozart's Rondo in A Monir. Or Chopin's Scherzo No.2. Well I can dream can't I?
I'd be dreaming of Gaspard de la Nuit or Carnaval please!
Que bella mi amor!! Demasiado buena! Crack. Enhorabuena. A seguir mostrando arte. Gracias
Knowing Robert Schuman's romantic style is obviously an art. Congratulations Cordelia Williams you are a truly special artist.
Lovely music, really moving, bravo Cordelia!!
Thank you for Uploading, you played with allot of passion and feeling! All my best!
Deeply satisfying performance. Thank you!
Did you learn it the first time straight from the beginning to the end? I started learning it but I started with the A Tempo section of the 1st mvmt and going to bounce around
I actually can't remember now! I think it's OK to learn in sections but important to get a sense of the overall structure before you start jumping around, so the shape of it is integrated into your learning. Sometimes I also learn in sections backwards, so the last chunk, then the last two chunks, then the last three chunks etc. Good to have the end really secure. Good luck!
Back in my student years I fell in love with this piece, but I felt it was out of my league technically. Life took me in different directions after studies, and it's only the last couple of years I've had the time and motivation to practice more seriously and add more to my repertoire. These videos have helped so much and now I feel like I might actually be able to play this properly. What a dream! Thank you so much <3
Gorgeous.
I was there too (can actually see myself I think in this video lol). I've seen a few of the great pianists in live performance over the years and can honestly say Williams is right up there with the finest you are likely to hear. I love her clarity of touch, thoughtful articulation of every note, richness of interpretation, power and extraordinary delicacy...one could go on but my recommendation would be just go to one of her concerts and hear for yourself.
Wow
Excellent practise tips. Thanks.
This advice is golden. Thank you.
thank you cordelia!your practical methods are very inspiring! I am looking forward the more practice video! Many thanks from China!❤
Couldn't this piece more sensibly have a time signature of 5/8 and be barred accordingly?
It’s practice not pratise
In the UK we write practise
Gorgeous musicality. The first piece was just sublime! :Brahms ws the greatest exponent of wistfulness.-) Loved it all. :-)
Excellent interpretation! Love the tempo, dynamics, overall feeling. Splendid work! Would love to hear you play Ligeti's etudes :)
I am made of that self mettle as Schubert And prize me at his worth. In my true heart I find he names my very deed of love; Only he comes too short, that I profess Myself of the lineage of Beethoven (and thus Schubert's teacher Salieri) and am an enemy to all other joys Which the most precious square of sense possesses, And find I am alone felicitate In your dear Highness’ love. Here are 4 impromptus that I composed in the style of Schubert: czcams.com/play/PLYUhuuvIrJm1cBxcbTuQO1GgPCfkptQTt.html
Great tips! Thank you.
Oh don't stop there (in the Rach)! This "Creme-de-menthe" variation (that even Rachmaninoff had reservations about) has more difficult leaps for the LH further on!
My teacher is also a great fan of blind practice. I still don't remember that often enough.
Thank you, Cordelia
GRANDIOSO !
I had the pleasure of attending this performance and greatly enjoyed it. This particular impromptu holds a special place among my favourite piano works by Schubert. Thank you for sharing!
