    Cordelia, these videos are so inspiring. They just might help me get through the most difficult sections I've yet to conquer. It has taken me 45 years to realize this is the greatest piano piece ever written. Just my opinion. All 3 movements are of sublime beauty. The difficulties are immense especially if you have small to average hands. I love it so. It is so wonderful to experience exceptional pianists like yourself struggle with these difficulties too until you "slay the dragon". :) Thank You Cordelia as I so enjoyed your musical journey.

    Came back to rewatch this video because it's so inspiring! The way you nailed that difficult passage in the third movement during the performance 👏👏 Sometimes, knowing that a passage is difficult, and having worked so much on it, I get even more nervous playing it! I wonder how you approached performing this psychologically on the day, and more specifically, how you are feeling right before playing certain difficult passages.

      Thanks for such a nice message! Yes I totally know what you mean, it's a big part of the preparation to actually work on the mental side of those passages, to find a way that I can relax into it and to discover the physical ease underneath the difficulties. On the day I keep myself incredibly calm (that's why I hardly ever film on concert days!), almost like a meditation before I go on stage. Right before playing it's like doing a sky dive - I have to surrender to what is going to happen, to throw any worries out of the window and trust that the work I have done will carry me through. I try to tune into the exhilaration of playing those passages and almost switch off my 'thinking' brain. But you're right, it's not easy at all, it's a full life's work to balance the psychological side of performing!

      @@CordeliaWilliams You're so kind to respond, thank you! It really does help to hear and see how you think and prepare. Piano is such a solitary instrument that sometimes it feels like I'm completely isolated from everyone (which is also the beauty of it), but your soulful performances and wise words help me feel less alone, and view myself more objectively as well. Will re-read your comment before my next performance. I hope I can attend your concert one day 🙏

    This is really amazing, and inspiring.
    Although I have a question, just before starting to practice concerto everyday before concert,what do you do in terms of technique or warming up?

      I actually made a video a while ago about my warm-up routine! I am very consistent with my warm-up ;) You can find it here czcams.com/video/psmcL2L_dYo/video.html Enjoy!

    Did you learn it the first time straight from the beginning to the end? I started learning it but I started with the A Tempo section of the 1st mvmt and going to bounce around

    • @CordeliaWilliams
      @CordeliaWilliams  Před 6 měsíci

      I actually can't remember now! I think it's OK to learn in sections but important to get a sense of the overall structure before you start jumping around, so the shape of it is integrated into your learning. Sometimes I also learn in sections backwards, so the last chunk, then the last two chunks, then the last three chunks etc. Good to have the end really secure. Good luck!
