- I almost cried making this video, saying goodbye to my beautiful Steinway Model B for 3 months. But also it was fun to watch the piano removal process. 345kg down the stairs!
Here's how to take a grand piano apart, how to safely transport and store it, and how it feels to say goodbye (temporarily!) to a piano that I've spent the last 15 years with, every day.

That piano is beautiful
I have moved my Steinway twice, and watching professionals work is inspiring. The care, the swiftness. You cannot believe how quickly the piano is out and on the truck! Always hire professional piano movers who have equipment and experience.

I like how they took care of the Piano. I have a upright piano and Im very protective about it.. one day Ill have a grand piano.
Moved mine DOWN a mountainside ... on it's side on a board strapped to wheeled thing that didn't roll over the uneven ground. Talk about rattled nerves ... 800 pounds and 6 guys going straight downhill. Everyone including the piano ... safe and sound ... except tired mover dropped a blanket wrapped leg on the floor ... I don't know what he was thinking ... and the leg chipped; luckily near the top and out of sight. The movers heard me playing and loved it and for that I think they took exceptional care of it.

That's tough move. It was even harder to get it up the stairs. Also a reason digital pianos are gaining favor.
Where are you going to practise for the next 3 months?
Here and there and everywhere! I do have my upright, which is fine for most things, and I can practise at Steinway Hall if I need a grand. And I'll be doing a lot of mental practice with the scores I think.
@@CordeliaWilliams Hi Cordelia. When you come to play in Dulwich I have a Steinway B you could practice on albeit with a fairly heavy action
Measuring the doorway would be redundant if thats how it came in.Also moving the lid naked is not good;shoulda been wrapped
Yeah, I would have wraped the lid.
@@technicusspiriticus2322 the lid should not really be removed from the piano
Maybe after it was moved in there were some renovations! The amount of time it takes to measure is time we’ll spent!
