  • Learning a new Schubert sonata.
My grand piano is still in storage... we are still in the midst of painting, DIY, drilling, dusty chaos. However, on the positive side, after many years of waiting to be 'ready', I am finally starting to learn Schubert's late, great A major piano Sonata, D959. After recording his previous Sonata D958 last year - it's time. I think this music will bring me peace in a quite challenging and busy time of life.
This video is recorded from my first practice session on this amazing piece (1st movement). People often ask how long it takes me to learn a new piece - well, being able to play the notes is only the first and quickest stage, but hopefully this gives an insight.

Totally agree - that is exactly why I have been waiting so long! I never felt quite ready to take that music on until now.
