I found it really very cute that your both quite nearsighted and apparently your prescriptions must be very similar because neither of you seemed to have any problem after switching glasses with each other. So whose glasses is stronger? Many years ago I was dating a young woman and even though she had perfect eyesight she really liked my sisters glasses and even asked her if she could try them on several times. My sister didn't have a strong prescription but she wore her glasses all the time anyway. So when my sister got new glasses she gave me her old glasses to give to my girlfriend sine she liked them so much. My girlfriend was ecstatic when I gave her my sisters glasses. She put them on and she said she was going to wear them from then on. At first she was doing a lot of comparing how things looked with and without her glasses. But she was wearing them all the time. Her eyes didn't seem to have any problem adjusting to them and after about a month she no longer was able to see as well without her glasses anymore. But she was happy and glasses did suite her very well.

One small clarification about his statement that "we are all the same" - he meant that we all have the same Buddha nature. The Buddha himself absolutely acknowledged that people are very different and so he had different approaches, he adapted his teachings according to those differences between individuals. That is why the Buddha's teachings are so varied. However, we all have the same potential of achieving enlightenment, we all have the same Buddha nature within us.

Thank you for the video. I enjoyed it. This info might clear up questions some folks have about Buddhist monks and marriage: In most Buddhist traditions, monks are celibate (not allowed to marry, have sex, and hence have kids). Celibacy for monks is clearly laid out in the the Vinaya, the original monastic rules of the founder of Buddhism, Siddhartha Gautama. While Buddhists priests can marry, and monks can 'give up their robes' (disrobe) and marry, most traditions do not allow monks to marry. Japan is an exception in this tradition though. Lastly, for those interested in Zen or Buddhism in general. You don't have to travel to Japan to study Buddhism or Zen. Buddhism has taken root in many countries in recent times, and there are good teachers and Sanghas throughout the world. It actually might be easier to study Buddhism in your own country and culture. That's not to say that studying Buddhism in Japan or other countries, which have a longer tradition of Buddhism, isn't important or useful. However, it is something to keep in mind.

I have decided to become a Zen Priest. For many of the reasons Scott says. But I have a disability and have found it difficult being accepted.. Does anyone know a Zen organisation in France that does accept genuine requests for training. If not I'm going to ordain myself and train myself. After all, the Buddha wasn't ordained. I have never wanted fake nails but these were beautiful and blue, never thought I’d go for that. Too bad it didn’t work out, they were stunning. I would be staring at my hands all day long.
